Yeah, it was really odd that the forum closure wasn't mentioned at all on the front page, considering how important it was to the site at one point. Just a quick couple of paragraphs to acknowledge it would have been the least I expected, even if most of the old staff are now long gone. Really felt as if the site was ashamed of it (with some good reason, tbf), and just wanted to push it out the back door as quickly and quietly as possible.
However, also not sure why the likes of Kotaku have raised such a fuss about it too. It was a tiny and niche forum, hardly NeoGAF in terms of breaking industry news and opinion.

The whole closure was handled in pretty much the same way as Frankfurt closing the JBL U.K. office, expect Rodger Reedpop is Stefan and Craigy is Alan Johnson

On Kotaku "making a fuss"/"complaining" about the EG forum closure... If folks care to read the article, it's actually pretty mild mannered and goes to some length to explain it's not intended as a pile on. It's more about how shit Discord is as a replacement for a forum. ie: stating the bleeding obvious.
But then I guess no one ever reads beyond the fking headline and opening par with gaming news anyway, including gaming journos (ref: bertie's complaining earlier in thread).

Sorry if it's old news, but I didn't realise how many sites also picked up the forum closure news after Kotaku. Nice write up on Techraptor which includes not one but two links to here: techraptor.net/gaming/news/eurogamer-forums-suddenly-shut-downI found this by Googling "Where did the Eurogamer forum go?" (without the speechmarks) because I wanted to know whether fontgeek appeared in the results yet. Turns out we didn't need to fill EG comments with "spam" links to direct stragglers here after all. Never heard of techraptor before. Looks quite good – very simple, no nonsense gaming site. Wonder how long it'll last before Roger hoovers it. |

Pretty sure Roger only cares about events. He wanted EGX, the Gamer Network sites were an inconvenient add on. If TechRaptor isn’t connected to some kind of expo they’re safe.

I knew I'd heard of Techraptor before, and a quick Google confirms that my memory was indeed correct and they were around during Gamergate and were at best neutral on the whole thing, and were called out by several prominent game journalists at the time for courting the GG crowd. But that was years ago, right?
