They're keeping an eye on this and will buy it for 10 bitcoin once everyone from their old forums have moved here.

all the other headaches of running a forum for people who rarely read the main site anyway There was a main site? I ended up there today by mistake. Muscle memory for checking the forum has a lot to answer for!

Pretty shocking the way the forum has just been dumped, with barely any care at all.

And zero mention. I mean, they clearly read it sometimes because they nabbed the odd idea or news angle for content from it a few times, the cheeky wee fuckers.

My favorite thing in the last few dying weeks is them scooping Gamesmaster auditions from a different forum when it was also happening RIGHT ON THE FORUM THEY WERE SUNSETTING, it was a very obvious "don't talk about the forum" moment.

I’m convinced the new code will align all their web platforms and they’ll all be merged in a year or two, the community side adds a headache they’d rather not have to deal with along with all the other headaches of running a forum for people who rarely read the main site anyway It's certainly beginning to look like a pretty homogeneous branding. RPS and VG247 have very similar feels. Also, the Reedpop sites have very similar articles on deals and guides as well. Often seemed needlessly duplicated. Certainly feels like the character of each site is being whittled away. I await the new EG site with trepidation.

Certainly feels like the character of each site is being whittled away. I await the new EG site with trepidation. Its heading that way. I imagine when all the sites are on one platform you'd be able to write a game review, tick a fex boxes for which platforms it'll be released on and then it'll autopublish on all the relevant front pages. Very efficient for them, but robs the souls from the sites. The last couple of weeks RPS has had quite a few articles on PlayStation exclusives, tenuously linked to PC gaming because Sony have said some of them will eventually come to PC and these may possibly, rumour has it, if we're lucky, be some of them. The RPS of 5 years ago might have run a single article covering that Sony announced it may happen then ignore it till confirmed cases where it did such as a Wot-I-Think* of Horizion:Zero Dawn. *RPS used to call its reviews that to make painfully clear they were the subjective opinion of the staff member writing the review. That's been quietly dropped in the last couple of years as it goes against Reedpop policy and the almighty SEO. The only thing RPS has kept from its review identity is a lack of scores and a licence to go on tangents more than most review sites.

Did you guys actively use the website or just the forums over there for the most part?

I barely read RPS after the majority of the original people left. It used to just feel like a good quality gaming blog without too many press release articles and not too many space filling articles about nonsense.
Think I look on there once a month if that now instead of every day.

Their Electronic Wireless Show podcast is pretty great. Heavy on the bants, but they're good bants.

Did you guys actively use the website or just the forums over there for the most part? I read both the RPS and *shock horror* EG front pages. Used to use VG247 for their review score round-ups. EG declined much sooner than RPS. The latter still has some decent pieces and some good writers, but it's nothing like it used to be as space_invader alluded to.

Easier if everyone had kept their old names. As in, for me. I’m old- there’s only so many new connections my brain can make 🤪

Yeah or at least not pretended to be a new account if they did change their name.

Reedpop are in the events market, after all. Eurogamer/RPS etc. are channels to draw eyes to the expos, and they want to make the sites 'sticky' enough to draw lots in. I don't think forums do that very much any more. I blame the younger generation. Now get off my lawn.

Who was User Danno on the EG forum? Danno and, later, Ddanno. I mainly posted in the Soulsborne threads and lurked the rest of the time.

I'm sure EG will copy and paste the article as they're known to do at times.

All part of the hermeticity of the forum's culture, though mightily annoying to anyone not in on it all.

I normally went to EG for front page news, but I would occasionally go to the forums to see what's up. I definitely haven't posted as much in recent years, but I would still drop in on the occasional thread (last posted in the Metroid Dread discussion) I was 15 when I joined EG, and it was basically my first internet community. This was right before my family moved to America, so it was an oddly comforting connection to the motherland. I was naive and stupid, and made some idiotic threads - my first one was asking how to find the last rabbit in Super Mario 64 DS... what a time. I emphatically believed in the Wii, posted dumb comics I had made, and had a couple sock accounts (RIP Pifflesbry McBumcrack). Oh, and no matter what silly in-joke or forum drama appeared, I would always try and be the first to know, and then run it into the ground. 16 years later, I still haven't updated my game library on my EG profile - but I will let that Nintendogs image sit proudly in the header until the end of time

I feel like these websites are getting it backwards, thinking there’s no need for forums when in actual fact there’s no real need for the front page just regurgitating press releases. I have a better idea of what’s coming out on the platforms I own by just loading up the eStore then I just Google to see what the fuss is and get taken to Reddit or something like that, who needs EG to tell me what’s coming out? The forum should be on the front page, you’ve got hundreds of opinion pieces right there driving traffic and you just need to pay some mods to keep it on track instead of some Wesley farting out his brain guff
