I find myself doing the thing I usually do in RPGs; going absolutely everywhere except where the main quest points me. I thought I was very close to being done with Act 1... and then I stumbled into the Underdark.

I stumbled into a fight with the "paladins" yesterday. Their leader was 2 levels above my party and he proceeded to perform three attacks in a single turn, each of which one-shotted a party member. I actually did manage to take him out, as I had everyone focus him down, but my remaining party member was quickly destroyed.
My successful owlbear fight made me too cocky.

Like Elden Ring it already feels like I've played a whole game through already.

Hot fix is up, including a bigfix for "Penises C and D no longer clip through some githyanki clothing." T

Getting reports Acts 2 & 3 are not as polished as Act 1. Going to take my sweet time in Act 1 so, hopefully, stuff is ironed out.

Had one scene in Act 2 where the v/o bugged out or hadn't been recorded, did stand out.

Yes, heard a few comments from reviewers saying that it was buggy and was surprised as I hadn't encountered anything really myself, besides one camera placement where the character was obscured by a tent pole (not even sure if you can count that as a bug).
I guess that most of the problems come later, with act 1 getting all the benefit of the early access. Plus, the early release has probably not helped and I expect there might have been a conscious decision to frontload the bug squashing before release, with the idea to sort the rest before the majority reached it.

I've had some minor things, like a few cutscenes happening twice when I go to camp (not one after the other). The UI can be quite stubborn about some things not being clickable, that's about it.
Could do with a couple quality of life improvements, like being able to use everyone's inventory to trade. There's not so much junk as it's D&D so magical items don't need constantly chucking out, but my main is good at bartering but can't carry a lot of weight. It should pause/stop moving when you detect a trap. Or switch character once dialogue starts for all those times you weren't leading with your chatty person.
The attention to detail is staggering. Also relative to DA:2 and DA:Inquisition, they've managed to maintain a useful clickable environment which is very 3D, characters just climb over low ledges and such. Without having to resort to going for 3rd person tank controls and a rubbish jump command to make you go platforming over cliff edges to hunt loot.

I doubt I’ve ever finished Act One of these games anyway, if it’s even signposted. I just play it to the point where it seems like it’s finished, or I do. That’s enough game.
I really wish 15-30 hours of obsessively polished game was the standard.

I bought the delux version so get it a few days early. It is really for the missus but I may have a dabble, never played the series or dos.

I'm looking forward to an evil playthrough of this, there's so many little things you can do. That poor gnome on the windmill will never see me coming.

You going to do split screen coop?

Has anyone tried playing the GoG version on Steam Deck? I'm using Heroic and definitely seems to not be as good as others are reporting. Most places say you can run it at medium settings and set it to 40hz for a fairly consistent 40fps, but I've put everything on low and still getting drops to the low 20s.
I'm guessing this is because it is the non-steam version, but not sure if that should make a difference.
It's playable with a controller, but certainly much more fiddling than with keyboard and mouse.

I didn’t realise that it’s digital only until recently, so might be waiting for a price cut or - at least - until it’s had a number of big patches on ps5.

I gave up on playing this on the steam deck for now with the gog version, brought my pc down stairs from my sim racing/flying set up and using that for my first play through. Also rerolled a Bard instead of my Paladin.

Yeah, it's a bit nuts. Alice's RPS review is very positive as well. I only just finished act 1 last night. I've been trying not to no-life too much, but I'm also very slow at playing RPGs and it took me just over 40 hours where most seem to do it in 20-30. At least I got the two most important things from Act 1 (camp spoilers if you haven't finished the first act):

To everyone who's playing this now what are your feelings on some people in the game industry saying we shouldn't expect more out of the AAA space just because of this game's success?

It’s bullshit, frankly. Every team/studio should be striving to make something better than they have before, and looking to other studio’s successes is a way to learn. Obviously it doesn’t mean it will always work, so you shouldn’t expect every game to build on this one out of the gate, but it should definitely mark a milestone for other studios to analyse and let inform their own work wherever appropriate.
Ed: I’m not actually playing atm - waiting for the PS5 release next month - but saw a video on the comments (which are from earlier in the year, pre-launch).

I wholeheartedly agree, all the comments felt incredibly defensive around the success of the game. I think everyone understands that game development is hard but I think it's right to call out the state of the AAA space. I don't think Larian is a big studio or was rolling in money at the time of development so a lot of the stuff, as you say, sounds like bullshit.

It's a bit weird. Obviously nobody expects indies to match BG3, but there are comments from people at Blizzard, Obsidian et al. "Please don't expect too much of us!"
Don't worry fellas, we don't.

It does seem a weird statement to be putting. Telling an audience not to expect something from them that is as good as what is going on over there is an odd marketing campaign. Plus, Larian has grown quite a bit in recent years, but they have been a fairly niche studio until recently. You would think studios like Bioware or Cd Projekt Red would want to be outdoing them still (I'm not sure who has actually said to not expect other games on this scale).
Honestly though, I would be quite happy for other studios not to be producing games that are this scale. One of these once every 2-3 years is absolutely fine. This is an absolutely massive game and a game that seems to reward replaying with different characters and making different choices, so I can't see me needing something like it for some time, probably not until Larian makes their next game.
That doesn't mean other developers shouldn't be striving to create games that are better than what they have done before or learn from what the competitors are doing though.
