We don't have a thread for this but the release is looming for this seemingly (controversially so) juggernaut of a cRPG.
Are you getting it? Do you already have it on early access?
Must admit that personally I'm getting a bit swept up in the hype coupled with some wierd rpg discovery tip I'm currently on (playing PoE FFS).

I think with early access they wipe your progress every patch release, at least I read that on a Steam review. I will definitely buy it at some point.

I'm up for it. Played all their other games and this seems really impressive. Don't know about the D&D ruleset - was a Runequest geek in my early years.

The hype for this is very odd, but definitely welcome. Hopefully it sells gangbusters for Larian.
Curious to see how it works on consoles too, or if I should just snap it up and play on Steam Deck. It probably won't get a look in until September due to D4 seasons, so I'll try not to cave in and buy the shiny new thing like I usually do...

Probably going to wait for the Xbox release, whenever that happens. Should have all the bugs ironed out by then too.

I like Baldur's Gate and enjoyed the Divinity: Original Sin games, so at least in theory I should really like the two smushed together. Will most likely play it as long as it gets good reviews, but I haven't seen any early access or other pre release stuff (except the first teaser) so I don't actually know anything about it other than the title and there are mind flayers in it.

I'd love to get this, I loved he original Baldur's Gate games. My brother had them on PC, and you got a big manual written as a guide by Volo of the enemies in the game.
But to be honest I just won't have the time to put into it.

Already bought it as soon as it got on Early Access lol.
I've played the first few hours, but I figured there wasn't much point getting too invested since my saves won't carry over. But those hours were good!
The only slight negative for me is that I don't really care for the Spelljammer setting. But that's a minor detail, I'm still well up for it when 1.0 comes around.

One of the few day 1 purchases I will submit to. Getting it on PS5, like the heathen I am. Hardly game on PC these days, unless you count the Football Manager spreadsheet game Larian for me are in there with Devolver digital, From software , games companies I get a woody for.

Larian have been very public in stating that the Series S is holding it back. MS have provided help recently but that platform is delayed as a result.

Already purchased during its early access. Was surprised to see I had put in more than 11 hours into it, as I thought I had only dipped into it for a little bit.
Really liked DOS2, but this seems like a big step up. I played the early access about a year or so ago, I think, and even then you could see the polish above what you had in their previous games.
Edit: should also add that I'm heathen that bounced off the original BG games because of the real-time with pause combat. The fact this is turn based is a big reason why I'm looking forward to it.

I have zero experience of DnD rules and all that other chin strokey dice rolling stuff but I just find myself oddly drawn to this.
I'm already much further in my PoE playthrough that I got last time and still enjoying it so maybe, just maybe this is a whole new genre that I'm ageing into.

Yeah I never really clicked with the original BG games.
Also, I thought many/most/all western RPGs are based on dice rolls going on all the time in the background. This is not unique, no?

They predated the Internet as a reference and I didn't realise you were supposed to pause in between choices so found playing it in realtime a frustrating experience.

I remember enjoying but never finishing the original. I also remember the frustration of not having enough space to install the whole thing so having to go through the pain of switching between 5/6 discs when moving between areas.

I’ll be getting it day one on PS5, will play one tenth of it or 20 hours (whichever comes first) then forget what the story hook was and what I’m meant to be doing, and never play it again, as is tradition.

Yeah similar, I have no clue about D&D, I am here for the turn based combat though, how far you get into the weeds is up to you , I am skimming the surface in the first divinity game and getting a very satisfying experience. Baldurs 3 should be a much more polished and hopefully iron out the niggles I have with the genre, I have steered clear of early access and most of the coverage so as not to spoil it, what I have seen has me stoked.

I did that with Pillars of Eternity, which is mega beard strokey, played a fuck ton, not really having a clue what I was doing, then got to a point where it started to matter and I was getting my arse handed to me, nopped out, will never go back. So many numbers!

I can just never remember what a game is about or why I am doing anything. It’s happened with Pillars of Eternity Planescape Torment 2 Divinity Original Sin Divinity Original Sin 2 Wasteland 2 The Witcher 3
Although I did eventually make it all the way through Witcher 3 on one of my many, many runs at it.
I did finish Wasteland 3 in my first and only run of it, thought it was a great game.

Real time with pause is odd, because I didn’t have any problems using the combat fully real time in Knights of the Old Republic or Dragon Age, but I always found myself getting overwhelmed in Neverwinter Nights. So I figured if I struggled with NWN, I’d only find Baldur’s Gate worse.
I’ve been interesting in this game since its announcement, but as its release is looming closer, I’m finding it harder to get excited for. I might have burnt myself out on fantasy RPGs with Tears of the Kingdom, Diablo IV and Final Fantasy XVI releasing so close to one another.

What? Larian will have a turn-based option though, right? Real time with pause can go do one.

Yes, BG 3 will be turn-based. Very much along similar lines as the Divinity: Original Sin games.
The previous BG games were real-time with pause and there have been lots of people annoyed that BG3 won't continue this (those people are wronguns).
Now that I think about, I don't remember having issues with the combat in Knights of the Old Republic, but every other real-time with pause game I've struggled to get into, including Dragon Age: Origins.

Oh no, this one is fully turn based, just like their Divinity games. it’s basically Divinity with a D&D skin.
Sorry for the confusion. Was just adding to the above discussion.

I'm not worried about the mechanics, but I hope the plot is at least decent this time. Larian improved its writing a lot in terms of prose and dialogue from D:OS 1 to 2, and some of the side quests were pretty inspired, but the main plot really didn't interest me in either game. Now that I think about, I don't remember having issues with the combat in Knights of the Old Republic, but every other real-time with pause game I've struggled to get into, including Dragon Age: Origins. KotOR still plays out in distinct turns even if different actors can act at the same time. It just doesn't pause by default and keeps queueing stuff automatically. You also only have three people to manage and the pace is pretty slow. Baldur's Gate and other Infinity Engine games (and Pillars of Eternity) are much messier even though they technically use a similar system. I like those games but I'm not a fan of the RTwP. Trying to micromanage is tedious and especially in Baldur's Gate the "correct" way to play is often to just throw all your biggest AoE spells at the enemy immediately, preferably while they're still off-screen. I understand why people have nostalgia for it, but it's really not a great combat system.
