Yes it’s a time sink, yes you will figure out the systems (eventually). But there is very little (if any) filler. I normally lose interest in big games about half way through but I will be seeing this one through to the end!

I took a trip on the submersible. It leads to a cool location. Have Haste prepared and potions of Speed in stock!
I'm back now and ready to continue in the lower city... 100+ hrs and I feel I still have plenty to do in Act3

Just started Act 3, 50+ hours in. The end of Act 2 is epic epicness. Act 3 feels like a bit of a refresh, with a few smaller feeling side-quests, initially anyway. It's very nice to be in daylight again.
I had to make some tricky decisions and I'm not sure they were wise! But seems ok for now, I'm determined to not sweat too much about getting something 'wrong' or failing a roll as I'm pretty keen to get to the end this side of Christmas!

harrypalmer I'm trying to do the same unless I trigger something drastic like having to destroy the last light inn or losing Gale as a party member . Plus, like you, I really want to be done by Christmas!

Yeah I redid the last light inn several times! I think the prison break and finding the druid in the goblin camp were the only other times I've ensured I get something 'right' but only because they seemed to be a bit finickity, and I kind of knew what I wanted to do.
Other than that I've pretty much gone with the flow.
I'm lining up Robocop as a Christmas palate cleanser!

I tried to play BG3 about a month ago on the PS5 and couldn't get into it. I found it so overwhelming with the options is presented to you, so I put it down again. I started it again on Friday night from the beginning and persevered with it. I hardly left the flat over the weekend, I have become thoroughly addicted. The systems have now all finally clicked into place. I do struggle sometimes remembering some of my characters abilities and what they do, but I am generally much quicker at making decisions during combat. It has actually made me want to check out Divinity 2 now, which I was also reluctant to pick up at the time due to a sense I wouldn't like it. Gotta complete BG3 first though.
Also loving the characters. I love games with a strong party of characters, and BG3 has them in spades.
I've noticed that this is a game to take your time and explore. I've found lots of neat little things when I have explored off the main path. The attention to detail and amount of work they put into this game is incredible.

Same. I bounced off D2 (which I think I got in a sale or even for free) and never went back. I very nearly bounced off this too, but because I'd paid so much for it, I persevered! It took a good 2-3 hours to click but haven't looked back since! It will almost certainly be my GOTY. Will definitely be going back to D2 at some point.

Game sites really do love their bear sex articles
Glad bears could actually kill any freak that tries some "bear love"

I'm off tomorrow and am gonna play the fuck out of this, can't wait :-) I've left the Shadowlands/LL Inn for now in order to do the Mountain Pass/Creche area first
I see Gale now has the orb blast ability in Cantrips. Won't that..er.. kill him?

Yeah, I saw it there it there and didn't realise what it was so thought I'd try it.
Don't.
Creche is next on my list. I'm guessing I should probably do it before I finish Moonrise.

There is one spot you can use it... Proper spoilers for Act2 to follow!! Towards the end of act 2 you get close to the elder brain - there is some dialogue and you can get Gale to detonate. I then reloaded and talked him out of it, obvs!!

Think I'd read earlier there's a special edition available in Larians website but it's 100 euro, I want the physical version but not that much.

Awesome and PS5 DE ordered! (£90)
I too would have liked a game only option but taking account of what you get I don’t think the pricing is unreasonable. RRP disc only copy would have almost certainly have been £70 anyway, maybe down to £60 from slow delivery internet retailers.
It’s a stellar game in a genre and game type I love, it’s a huge game, and the developer deserves the income. Plus I’d only bite at the digi copy if it was £30 or less and that will prob take at least 2yrs and I want to play it before then!
Plenty to keep me going till arrival. Pleased I waited.

Damn. Things got fucked up in the house of healing . Act 2 has definitely grown on me after a tough start. Think it’s time to head back through the mountain pass before finishing up here.

Ordered the game, was waiting for a physical version since it wont just be me playing the game (could possibily be shared with a friend and 2 brothers). The extra fluff is useless to me so might actually try and sell it off. Honestly, I still expect a retail release a year or so from now called the "definitive edition". Timing was not great since now I am left with 25 euro's for 3 days...

I'm back now and ready to continue in the lower city... I did the same thing last week. For some reason it took me 3 turns to realise there was a timer, so I had to reload and start again with speed potions at the ready. I am currently running around the lower city. I recently stumbled into the sewers. Man, it's massive down there!

Slightly pissed off, a mate is popping over tonight so I won't get to play BG3 at all.
Fucking social life.

Quick question. I had the option of moving to the mountain pass and it threw up a warning about finishing off quests. Would this have been the start of Act 2? Instead, I headed down to the the Underdark, and I have been there for the last couple of days. I still have access to all the previously explored areas. Will I know when Act 2 is about to start and are all previous missions then locked out?
I assume you choose EITHER the Underdark route or the Mountain Pass, but cannot do both? I'm concerned about missing out on certain quests, but I guess this may be inevitable and by design.

richyroo As above, I went underdark and have done most of act 2 (I think). I’m planning on circling back to the mountain pass next. Will let you know.

Can confirm nothing seems to be missing for me in the mountain pass.
Just in the crèche now. Not much in this area though so far. Underdark much better (so far).

AFAIK only the Druid Grove and Goblin quests will break if you move on past that warning (they will resolve, but in a way you probably don't want them to). You can still go back to the Act 1 areas until a point of no return some way into Act 2, after which you cannot return.
In both my playthroughs I did all the Act 1 stuff including the Underdark, went and cleared out the Mountain Pass areas and then went back to the Underdark and entered the Shadowlands (main Act 2 area) via the elevator. There's some early stuff in the Shadowlands that change depending on which path you take, but it's pretty much just the path to your first quest hub.
I'd highly recommend doing the Mountain Pass stuff regardless of which path you ultimately take since there are substantial story beats and quests there.

Man I love the Eldritch Blast push so much. I hate the hag fight, because she has too many annoying minions. But one push into a bottomless pit, and she is sorted in about 30 seconds.
I miss out on loot, but meh.

Right I've been worried about picking this up because after trying PoE and falling off it for a second time. I'm thinking this will be the same but I'm absolutely convinced that this is a genre I'm up for.
To that end I've done something that I've not done for years and ... acquired it from the high seas ... put the pitchforks down, I already feel scummy! I wanted a longer demo without the pressure of trying to stay in a refund window.
Well, it's fucking awesome. I'm 20 hours in and only just left the emerald grove.
I've backed up my saves and deleted the game. It's now on my Xmas list.

I did the same with my first Souls game, DS3. After a few hours and realising I was enjoying it, I deleted the game and then bought it on Steam.

That or you want to play a game that's not available to you at any reasonable price anymore (or at all, depending on the console)... Or you want to mess around with stuff like randomizer mods or Action Replay codes or such, especially on games you've already bought and played legitimately. /is guilty of both
