Piracy is completely victimless if you play/watch/listen to something you wouldn't have otherwise. Nobody has lost anything and there's always the chance that it leads buying something from the same people/company later.

richyroo As above, I went underdark and have done most of act 2 (I think). I’m planning on circling back to the mountain pass next. Will let you know. Keen to hear about this. I went into Act 2 through the Underdark. Went through some progression there, going to the Inn, getting Halsin to see to the comatose guy there. Then I went to see the Mountain Pass because I wanted to see if anything can be done about the creche for Lae'zel. Told me I was going to journey to a new area. Did some exploration and then when I went back to camp, Halsin was just gone. Went to the Inn, gone there too. Looked it up and it seemed mixed opinion, people say its fine but others stressing that it really messes up questlines. So I reloaded an earlier save and said fuck it for now. Act 2 Managed to talk 2 bosses into killing themselves over the weekend so that's good.

He did reappear later but I haven't seen him in a while now; Maybe he's off in some further flung corner of my camp or he's gone again. I'm not sure. (I'm in Act 3 now). So he might pop back up even if he's not in camp currently.

Halsin hung around camp after I rescued him, but I could never add him to my party at any point. He made some half hearted excuse and buggered off at the end of Act 2. I'll be honest I didn't have a clue why he was there in the first place so no great loss!

He's such a small and unassuming guy, I can see why you would not notice him.

Feels like I'm making some progress with Halsin? After waking up his mate he wants me to go with him and potentially stop the shadow curse. Best be prepared, he says. I'm assuming by the end of all this it will lead to him being a party member. I may have accidentally insinuated my character wanted to sleep with him at some point so dunno if the potential romance plays a factor too. Also kind of mad still at how the writing accommodates your decisions. Got further progress into Astarions questline that I only would have got if he was in my party after meeting Raphael again

Interesting, yeah when he left he said he had unfinished business so I assume I missed something. Annoying as I thought I'd explored every nook and cranny.

Halsin joins you for real after you do the mission where you have to protect a portal he's in from shadow monsters. It might be after the inn gets attacked, I forget.

He's got Big Size's Hunk of Monk written all over him. "Those arms. Like big boughs of sturdy English oak. If you had them wrapped around you you'd feel so safe."

I just completed the Pale Elf questline. But I'm not entirely happy about how I did it. May even reload from save and re-do it. Odd in a way - it's only a game. Shows the strength of the story writing I guess.

Just fought my way out the crèche and somehow still have lae’zel in my party. Although I’m planning to switch her back out for karlach as soon as I’m done here.
Considering I’m only planning on one playthrough I’m really glad I came back this way!

Thought we were gonna fight at one point but she seems to have come round to my thinking, after an event in camp. I also picked up the Blood of Lathander mace which seems good for Shadowheart.

What event was that then? I feel she’s been on the edge of leaving since the start!
Also, is the weapon in the crèche? I might have missed it.

After leaving the crèche I tried to fast travel to the Last Light Inn but it took me to camp instead. I tried to sleep but then some Githyanki dude called Voss showed up and basically agreed with me that Vlaakith was a cow and the person trapped in the prism was the key to her undoing. At that point Lae'zel got her sword out and threatened to kill Voss. Felt like she was gonna go for me too. But a couple of conversation choices later and she changed her mind and agreed with us. As for the mace there's a bit in the 'outside' of the monastery where you have to place some ceremonial weapons on the right plinths (one of them is just a rusty mace you find in a nearby grave). Do this right and you get the Dawnmaster's crest.
After killing the Githyanki inquisitor there's a side room with a couple of statues. Rotate one of these so it faces East, the other West. Then a secret door appears leading to an area with some simple traps. Pass these and insert the crest into the mechanism and the mace is released!

Completely missed that (mace). Going back there next! That thing is worth going back for. I think I read somewhere that if you character lacks the strength to rotate the statues, you can add grease to the bottom of the statue to make it easier. They really do think of all the options in this game. :-)

Act 2 Managed to talk 2 bosses into killing themselves over the weekend so that's good. Regarding Halsin. At the point I went to the mountain pass, Halsin was at the Inn and we were still trying to wake up that comatose guy. The Inn hasn't been attacked yet,. I haven't progressed the main story that far (I know about it because I accidentally triggered it previously and reloaded a previous save to undo it). I basically did everything I could in the Mountain Pass before I went back to the Shadowlands. When I went back to the Shadowlands, Haslin was back in my camp. Although weirdly, if I spoke with him at camp, the game suddenly transported me back to the Inn where you . hear the comatose guy rambling again. Once his ramblings were finished. I was then back at camp again. So there was definitely a bug there, although thankfully not game breaking. Halsin was also still at the Inn for me, and I have . now woken up that guy successfully.. So thankfully I didn't experience any quest breaking bugs, only that little bug mentioned above. Halsin is now also a party member I can choose.

Hmm he's definitely not a party member for me at the same point you're at. Maybe when I finish that quest of his he'll join? Maybe. I just have about 10 other quests in the meantime..

I may not of been entirely clear. It's after you have woken up the guy and then defended the portal. Haslin then become a member of my party by speaking with him further at camp.

I just whacked the statue with my hammer a couple of times which worked a treat. I don't think of all these clever ways of doing things, so its brute force for me. Its worked for me so far!
I also didn't need to find the 3 weapons and do that puzzle as my perception located a hidden wall with the item I needed. I unlocked it with Astarion, it had a value of about 30 to unlock it, so I got a little lucky with the dice rolls on that one and fortunately had a lot of bonus points in slight of hand etc!
Also, how do you do spoiler tags?

I think you have to manually ad the BBCode by putting spoiler between square brackets before your text and /spoiler between square brackets after your text. You can quote someone who used the spoiler tags and toggle 'Preview' tot 'BBCode' at the bottom of post reply input box. Which may be less confusing than me trying to describe it.

The mace is pretty awesome for my Paladin character. Best weapon I have found so far and fits a Paladin perfectly.

Shadowheart very rarely deals any melee damage for me but I guess it has a useful buff? Plus its nice to be able to deal some damage if required.

I still find damage values for weapons confusing. A new weapon might look better on paper but you equip it on a character and it ends up being worse than what they've already got (the Attack value and damage numbers on the character sheet suddenly go down)
Wyll is still using a couple of early green weapons (one being the hill giant club) as they seem to work out better than later blue stuff.
I tried the mace on various characters but it just wasn't any good on anyone except Shadowheart.

Yeah I put a couple of seemingly good weapons on Astorian who is dual wielding. Was disappointed with the outcome.
To be honest I’ve found him far less useful in act 2. He’s great for lockpicking and disarming traps (pretty much guaranteed success) but Gale is now far better in combat.

I hardly use Astarian, only good for lockpicking for me. I use the Mace on my main playable Paladin character, not Shadowheart. He hits everything quite hard, so it suits him perfectly. Also the ray of light damaging spell it comes with is pretty strong. Shadowheart hardly ever hits anyone. I use the skill which has those little angels flying around her, and then run around the map damaging everyone that they touch. She is a great support character. I like her Glyth magic as well you place on the floor, very useful. Most useful spell in the whole game....Wall of Fire (at least from what I have played so far). Wyll cast this when I was having to defend a certain something and we all just stood behind it watching the enemies all die as they walked through it. It was BBQ season.
Lae'zel is pretty bloody strong too. She is the best in physical encounters for me and a must have in my party. She can attack twice with physical weapons, has the skill to gain advantage on attack rolls. She also has the ability to gain an extra turn so can do it all again. I think the weapon she has is also designed for her race, so its pretty strong too. She just demolishes everything.

So a question for you all. Who is your main character and who are your favourite (most useful) companions in battle?
For me....
Main = Paladin Lae'zel - she demolishes everything and is a powerhouse. Shadowheart - great support character with some powerful and useful magics Gale - Its a toss up between him and Wyll really. I alternate these two frequently.
I've only just unlocked Halsin so cannot comment on his usefulness.
