Damn, Gale just left my party. I obviously left him waiting too long for magical items. I’m torn as he was kind of useful at times, but that arcane hunger was starting to get super annoying . Maybe it’s for the best. You don't actually need to feed him much. Minor spoiler: Three items total, and you can buy cheap magic items off vendors to give him if needed. After that his quest moves on.

To be honest I was actually just trying to move some stuff into my inventory for him as I’m sure I had more than what I was showing. I think I tormented him too many times I guess. Not sure whether to go back to an earlier save. I might do to be honest. Ironically, the only reason I was talking to him was as I wanted him for a specific task (his witch bolt for the arcane turrets) .

I reloaded so I still have him. Really helped against those turrets.

So, last night I beat the main boss at the end of Act 2. I had had some difficult encounters prior to that (playing on Tactician difficulty), and was expecting this to be rock hard, but it was actually surprisingly straightforward. Nobody died. I did, I think, talk the boss into relinquishing his first phase altogether.
Then I got involved in the tadpole advancement thing, at which point I failed a Wisdom check and did the thing I had decided I wasn't going to do. I think I may just have to run with it now.

I haven’t had much time to play lately, but finally got in a proper long session last night.
Made my way through the Underdark, which was deliciously weird (its inhabitants especially) but fun to explore. I won’t spoil any details but suffice to say one particular bunch of characters (by the Beach) have definitely got it coming to them… I’m just playing friendly for now to see if I can extract some better loot…
I have settled into a core party of my Warlock, Shadowheart, Gale and Karlach. Activating Karlach’s Rage and sending her headlong into battle is tremendously effective, especially now she can make two attacks per turn. The others are also similarly settling to the roles I want them to have, and I’m finding the combat is much improved (if still not exactly easy).
My main regret is I’m largely neglecting the rest of my camp - I could perhaps swap Lae’zel in for Karlach (but prefer not to for character reasons) but I don’t feel like I could give up the magic and healing that Gale and Shadowheart bring respectively.
Maybe that’s a second play through, but I’d be interested to see how other party builds could play out - I’m just not quite confident enough to try it!

I’m about where you are. Seem like I’ve been down here for a loooong time but keep finding new stuff! Re those guys by the beach, I’ve just dealt with that situation. I won’t tell you what I did It’s a whole world in itself down here. My party is pretty much set now. My bard, Karlach, Astorian and Shadowheart. I’ll sometimes switch in Gale if the situation requires. I’m making progress with SH, she is starting to open up to me a bit…

I think this game is absolutely extraordinary. Can't believe how much depth there is to it and how nothing is bad. Even the stealth is pretty good. 20 hours have absolutely flown by. Faith in triple A gaming restored.

I have trouble with party composition too. My main is a bard, so pretty versatile. I tend to run with Shadowheart, Gale and Laezel or Karlach. I’d like to use the others more but I need at least one tough melee fighter, someone who can heal and good DPS, and this seems to be the best combo. Sometimes I swap out Gale for Astarion or Wyll. I have respecced Wyll as a Paladin/Warlock to improve his utility, and I’ll probably give Halsin more of a shot as healer in Act 3. I have also respecced Jaheira as a Monk/Rogue, just to play about with something new.

Blimey. Thought I’d explored most of the under dark. But sailed off from the beach and found a whole other area. Cleared some rubble now I think I’m in the adamite forge. . I’m starting to forget what above ground was like. I only came this way to kill a few goblins

Just a thought - when you say you only came this way to kill a few goblins… did you finish the Grove Refugees quest before heading down here? Minor spoiler in case not - the place you are heading to on the other side of the Underdark is where you get directed to next after you’ve resolved the whole Grove / Goblins thing!

My session earlier today came to an unexpected end when I managed to win a fight with all of my party unconscious.

Should I head back to the grove first then? I doubt you’ll break anything by carrying on, but… yes, I’d say it’s worth heading back to finish that quest line first. The game / narrative makes it very clear you need to go to [redacted] and there are two main ways of getting there, one of which is through the Underdark. Also, there are some good story bits (and characters to meet - potentially recruit) from completing that Grove quest. I will say no more!

Hmmm, I might head back then. I think I’m well into the forge now so May finish that up first. I’ve got a waypoint so I can fast travel back

He has the disguise you'd expect a druid to have.

Well, if you're in the goblin camp, look in the prison. Specifically at the conspicuously large bear.

Yes definitely go and find Halsin!
But also chat to the Goblins a bit before murdering them all.

I never did find Halsin at the camp, was pretty thorough too I felt.
I cant imagine not having Karlach in the party. Rage plus the additional attack you get at lvl 5 means 3 big hefty hits. But I do like rotating the party members in and out if only to see the in game dialog between them. You don't realise how much of a flirt Wyll is with Lae'zel and Shadowheart until you have him.

I think Wyll is probably the character I hate the most. The personality, the horniness, that stupid fucking vest. I wish you had the opportunity to murder him like you can with Gale and Asterion.

Yeah I’m liking Karlach too. Think my party is levelled up to 5 now. Seems quite high for my stage of the game but I’ll take it! I didn’t kill any goblins outside the camp, and I don’t think I will need to. There are none left inside though! Got into the (what I assume to be) forge in an interesting way. Was chatting with one of the oxen (as you do) and thought it would be fun to persuade him to attack his master. Ended up in a fight and just about managed to save the second one who cleared the rubble for me . Once I’m done here I’ll go grab Halsin and go back to the grove.

I did the opposite and got them to clear the rubble, the masters ended up attacking me anyway because they didn't want to split the share but made short work of them . I do find it really interesting that party members approve or disapprove of actions. Karlach hates any decision where you try mind control or get someone to do something in servitude for you because yeh, of course she would

Haven't really been getting any chances to play recently, so I've sort of stalled in Act 3 a bit. I did the Bhaalist Temple last night - after the massive set piece ending of Act 2, I was expecting the fight with Orin to be a lot more... spectacular.
It wasn't.
She had a LOT of mobs (and Halsin tied to a table), so I didn't really feel like talking to her, so I rushed in and chain lightninged her and her mobs (killing a load of the lower end ones) and aggroing her into beast mode. At which point, she jumped into the middle of my party with "Unstoppable", got smacked about by Lae'zel and Astarion until she wasn't unstoppable any more, then a couple of magic crits from Shadowheart and my Sorceror and she was dead. Sit down, bitch.
The mobs were easy to clean up. Either I'm too much for these fools, or she wasn't as tough as she had made herself out to be.
I guess beautiful blood sprays are not everything.
