Yes, I have a burning Hands scroll and thought that might be useful to learn. Use. You don't learn scrolls in this. They're a way of anyone being able to use a spell otherwise restricted to a spellcaster. Gale can transcribe them into his spellbook.

Unrelated but I had a small 'oops' moment yesterday. I'm sneaking about in Act 2, in the mind flayer colony. The intellect devourers I ran into weren't hostile but I attacked them all on sight just to be sure. The same with the mind flayers. I released Zevlor and a few other NPCs. Then snuck around further, clearing out the barracks. I then somehow got turned around and ended up back in the room with Zevlor and 2 other NPCs. I saw mobs from outside the room, surprise attacked them and only after I killed the first 2 and the last was on 1/3rd health, did I realize those were the guys I freed earlier.
My quest log has the Zevlor quest ticked as completed and I have some nice loot off him, so I guess it's all good? You didn't notice that they had a green circle around them rather than red?

The intellect devourers had a yellow circle, weren't hostile and I attacked them. So then I saw some mobs and I attacked. I half notice the green circle but was too busy kicking their ass.

On difficult fights in general, coming back after you've gained a level is always an option if you're struggling, especially in Act 1. You gain a lot of power with each level and all classes get some big power bumps over the first act in the form of stuff like subclass choice, the first trait and gaining extra attacks.

Isn't it better for someone to learn the scroll and use multiple times (I'm pretty sure you pay to learn a spell from a scroll)? Edit: Ah I see thats just Gale.

Yay, I did it! Kind of feel the reward wasn’t really worth it but that’s life I guess. Found a necromancers book and got Gale to read it, we’ll first page anyway. Astorian seems keen to read it too… . Also recruited some ogres. Time to crack on a bit now, been very side tracked last couple of nights. It’s so easy to lose track of time.

I'm a bit miffed. Did a HUGE fight yesterday, barely survived, 2 party members dead, 2 with a sliver of health left. Post-fight there's a cut scene and the game crashed to desktop in the middle of it. Restarted and the last save is from right before I entered that room. 40 minutes of progress lost and I got my ass handed to me on my second attempt of that same fight. :-( I managed to beat it again on the 3rd try. The game crashed again as the fight ended. >:-(

Fuck. Can you save mid fight so you don’t have to start again?
Got my party up to level 4. At the goblin camp. Struggling to choose my party members. I currently have shadowheart (who seems essentially for support and healing), Lae’zel (I’d rather have Karlach but I think she is less effective) and Gale. I might switch out Gale for Astorian though. Wasn’t a big fan of Wyll but only gave him a quick go to be fair.

I’m in the shadowlands. I should advance the main quest but every single side quest is related and feels important I’m its own right. The game is a marvel.
There are party members I haven’t used yet. I really should switch it up but I am more invested in Laziel, Shadowheart and Gale than the others. I switch shadow out for karlach sometimes if i need some extra beef but I find her quite annoying!
I’ll switch the others in for story purposes when I go after their quests, obviously.

Slightly odd encounter last night just outside Baldurs Gate.. Far on the west side of the map I found a ship at dock and a fight about to start. Half the combatants were circled in red (Stone Lord's men?) and the other half were yellow. So I took the side of the yellows. At the end of the fight the yellows just disappeared. I was expecting some thanks or some explanation of what was happening. One guy ran about a bit and I chased after him, he was crying that someone was dead (their leader I guess, forget the name) and said he had no time to talk. Then he literally disappeared.

I've stuck with Shadowheart, Astarion and Gale, plus my barbarian, for about 97% of my play... Just feels like a balanced party.

I'm a sorcerer and my party is almost without fail - Laz'ael as tank and damager, Shadowheart as support/rearguard and Astarion running about everywhere doing massive two hand sneaky damage.
I've got Halsin, Jaheria, Karlach and Wyll, but they all seem to be of secondary use to my playstyle (rush in and kick everyone's heads in, then sort it out later).

I'm playing as Warlock Wyll and recruited Shadowheart, LAe'zel, Gale and Astarion. That's it, I don't have any other party members. I missed them, killed them (like Karlach) or they died (like that druid at the last light in) without realising they were potential party members.
It's been Wyll, Lae'zel, Shadowheart + Gale/Astarion for most of my playthrough.
I finally redid the big fight a 4th time. I hadn't saved mid fight before in case things went south but all went well last night. I think I might be near the end of Act 2 now.

There is something to be said about a smaller group to choose from, its really hard. I might switch out Lae'zel for Karlach as I prefer her company. Shadowheart is usually there so it leaves one open spot for Astarion, Wyll and Gale to fight for. Astarion is useful for lockpicking, disarming so mostly gets the nod. Despite him trying to bite me ....

The fight against at the end of Act 2. Wyll the warlock made him repent the first try, so he killed himself and then I fought Myrkul I narrowly survoived. 2nd time, I just fought Ketherick but I didn't realise you have to still fight Myrkul anyway. So I got my ass handed to me. 3rd time it went brilliantly, made him repent and knew what to expect, so managed easily. When the game crashed that time, I did see a pop-up with something related to Vulkan, so I switched back to DirectX 11 before my 4th try.
I'm now running around the tower because I placed a custom marked 'Hidden treasure' on my map and I can't figure out where it is.

I’m a rogue so don’t really need Astorian which is a shame. Although might be fun having two invisible teleporting murderers.

He is a dick, but I also kind of like him.
I lost a lot of time to this tonight. In the goblin camp and shattered sanctum. Got a load of loot though.

There is some fucked up shit in the shadowlands.
Made a boss kill itself, which was nice.

I had been erring on this since it released on PS5 and have a week off so went for it, knowing absolutely nothing about D&D. It certainly doesn't waste any time sinking its claws in. Thing that stands out for me so far is the humour and how it's genuinely a role playing game. Disco Elysium was the last time I felt this into a character. Accidentally sent a gnome into space and I'm so bad at loading saves normally, but I'm really enjoying just watching the game react genuinely to decisions you make and not feeling like I've got something wrong. Can feel that special sauce already.

I particularly like the dialogue options. You can go with whatever option you feel like at the time and it never feels wrong.

I've come straight from Starfield so it feels incredibly free. I enjoyed talking to a rat earlier and find the goblins very amusing.

Thankfully I'd been mostly backtracking and uncovering parts of the map, talking to various people. None of which proved pivotal to anything. So after reloading it took about 15 min to get back to where I was!!

Damn, Gale just left my party. I obviously left him waiting too long for magical items. I’m torn as he was kind of useful at times, but that arcane hunger was starting to get super annoying . Maybe it’s for the best.
