When was the last time someone with a continuous stream of fuck you money made anything good though...
Feels like that flabby in need of an editor vibe you get when book series become too famous for their own good.
Tbf Valve have made good things if reviews of Alyx are to be believed. But fuck me it happens rarely.

I can't think of another studio with that kind of independence and financial freedom.
I think Larian's situation with BG3 is more like CD-Projekt when they made The Witcher 3. It probably helps Larian that they've been around for almost 30 years though, and hopefully they're not due a Cyberpunk next.

I have to say it seems an amazing achievement so far. I am only just at the Druid grove as I have done my usual thing of starting multiple classes until settling on one (wood elf paladin) but each time I play I discover more depth. Good news is act 2 and 3 should be patched to perfection by the time I get there some time in 2024

Just started Act 2. It was good to make some progress with the story, as I was starting to feel a bit like I do with open world games (get distracted by random things, before getting bored of not really achieving anything).
Got absolutely slaughtered by a level 9 creature (I'm level 6), with a bunch of lower level grunts backing it up. Don't think I'll be going near that again! Will have to be more careful where I tread in this place.

I think I'm screwed. I'm in act 2. I released the pixie from the moon lantern. All was well until I get to the tollhouse area and I'm not protected from the curse. Apparently I lost the protection. There was a pouch with a bell to use to reactivate it but I can't find that anywhere. :-/

It looks like a little round bell you'd put on a cat collar.

Have you been to the tavern where the cleric is?
Also what about the patrol with the drider?

First 2 hours with the game on ps5 AND my first ever BG game AND I HATE turn based combat...and I fookin love it. Extra points for getting Danny "one more take Steven" Bear in the voice cast. Had both this and Starfield to play over the weekend, BG3 is winning!

Started it this morning and spent 5 hrs like it was nothing. Had an encounter with a group of bandits in a crypt. A bit of thinking made me reload and made me reevaluate what I could do. So I moved an oil barrel by the door and plan was to open the door, shove it in and then have Shadowheart cast fire bolt on it. I open the door, immediately spotted and one of the guys throws a fire grenade right at us dealing huge damage in the explosion. Made me laugh.
Interesting playing the game, it's early enough I know but it all seems overwhelming with choice when it comes to combat. Trying to plan out a good synergy with the party and abilities, hoping I made the right choices. Trying to figure out the terminology as I don't even play DnD. But I wanna learn, which is to the games credit.

Have you been to the tavern where the cleric is? Also what about the patrol with the drider? I have 3 broken moonlanterns. One I took from the Drider but I released the pixie. Since then I swapped over to the mountain pass and cleared out the creche. Now I thought of going to the moonsomething tower but I can't withstand the shwadow curse. It took me a while to remember I had a bell somewhere but it's gone. I might have sold it. I tried to go back to all vendors to check the stuff in their inventory that was sold to them. Some, especially those at the last light inn are dad though.

I found an issue with the PS5 version that isn't typical for most but my capture box wasn't recording the narrator while it did everything else, turns out to be a bit of an odd problem with the surround settings (I had 3D audio on the PS5 switched off on my TV) so if you have any audio dropping out it possibly needs switching off or on and see what happens. Larian are aware so hopefully it gets ironed out quickly. old.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/1687113/no_sound_on_the_ps5/The clip I wanted to grab? My failure in scolding a squirrel, this game really is a bit different.

To those starting their games now: be careful when you rest. The game continues when you're at camp, so time-sensitive tasks might resolve during your time asleep. Underdark spoilers: I originally sided with Nere but by the time I decided to double-cross him, he had disappeared from the Grymforge. I thought he was supposed to give me a special musical instrument

There are also a couple of times where it acts as if something will happen if you rest but it doesn't. I went through a whole dungeon with all my good spells spent in Act 3 because it hinted something very bad would happen if I tarried, but it was fine. I think I'm screwed. I'm in act 2. I released the pixie from the moon lantern. All was well until I get to the tollhouse area and I'm not protected from the curse. Apparently I lost the protection. There was a pouch with a bell to use to reactivate it but I can't find that anywhere. I found at least two more moon lanterns. General location: Both in moonrise tower. More specifically: One just lying around in Balthazar's room, and you can make more in a hidden side room in that same room if you have a broken one, though it's not a nice thing to do of course.

But is in general not how the game mostly works.

Hmm, I was reminded by the talk of the harpies and my own talk of Nere. I found the kid on the beach one time as he was being lured by the song. I got killed. Later on, I ignored triggering them and was able to kill them all, but I found the kids body on their outcropping.

I don't think I can get to those due to my current lack of Shadowcurse protection. If I cross one of the bridges towards Reithwin Town or the Tollhouse, I enter this shadowveil, which I'm not protected from. I get shadowcursed and lose some life almost every turn. I'd have to get to the Moonrise tower and find the lantern without bumping into any enemies as I doubt I'd survive a fight with the curse on me. Perhaps I can load 1 of my party up with health potions, make them invisible and send them off to the moonrise tower to find a lantern on their own?

Not sure if this is true of every game, but in my game Shadowheart noted that she wasn't very affected by the curse. I didn't actually try sending her off into the curse alone though, but that might work

It will work but be careful on route as there are some fights. Then fast travel others to her.

I see quite a few posts online from people who lost the bell from their inventory. I think it's a bug.
There's an option to spawn the object through a cheat code. I'll see if my invisible party member loaded with health potions can get the job done. I'd prefer not to use a cheat code.

Not sure if that works. Shadowheart does have her own light spell but I think even that doesn't help against the curse. I'll give it a try this week.

Ahh yeah it's only the minor version it works for.
However, get your fastest character and give them a potion of speed so you can double dash each turn in turn based mode and you can sprint it. Take a couple of greater healing potions as well.

I don't know since I had protection the whole time, but it would be weird if you couldn't get there at all given there are multiple ways to lose protection.
Did you try approaching the other way, down by the docks of Moonrise (where you meet Rolan)? I don't know what the curse situation is there, but you can avoid the town entirely that way, and there's no curse on the docks at least.

.....aaaaaaaaaaaand I'm done. Fucking awesome game. I've heard that some people were unhappy with the ending they got, but I found mine great. Told the emperor to get stuffed, and convinced Gale to sacrifice himself to blow up the brain. Astarion goes back to normal vampire mode and runs off with Shadowheart. That fighty one with the funny nose flew off in to the sunset on a Dragon. Dunno what that was all about, but she seemed happy. You get a series of epilogues depending on how it panned out, so if certain characters and arcs didn't get triggered and resolved, I can see how it might end up being a bit anticlimactic. Only came across one significant bug with my game was when a mission critical character just vanished. Otherwise just minor glitches and stuff that didn't really bother me. AMAZING time with this. Now, on to bloody Starfield.

Jaheira and Minsc just stood there.

I thought they just patched glitches in them. Didn't realise they actually patched them i entirely n.
Tbh it was a bit clunky, but then it was going to be a a bit of a patchwork job given how many variables there are.

So I’ve just had a quick 20 mins go of this on the ps5 and I can’t wait to play it with my boy as he’s a big dungeons and dragons fan. More wowed than Starfield which is a bit of a slow burn

Thought I had found a perfect exploity technique to take down three ogres and it was working fine until I pressed the wrong button on my controller and ended my turn early. It was all based around my rogue thief, he had started the fight hidden, dashed to get in range with his crossbow (using one bonus action), shoot at an ogre, jump out of view using a bit of equipment that provides jump every turn you dash, use second bonus action to hide again. Rinse and repeat.
As I say this worked fine until I messed up, the AI really should have moved around a bit looking for whoever was turning one of them into a pincushion and it certainly wouldn't have worked in a DMed game. The rest of my party were hidden and twiddling their thumbs for quite a while until their leader left his arse hanging in the wind.

I've been a bit short of gold, plus considering what I've been doing in the rest of the town they probably wouldn't be best pleased. Plus I've now got a very lovely magical item.
