But for my £0.02: larger budgets means more risk aversion most of the times, because potential losses are going to be bigger. Obviously. Nobody is going to take a mad punt and support 100s of people working away for a better part of decade as a part of a mad punt on someone's creative vision.
There still loads of games coming out I like and gamings never been better. My main problem is if I'm going to be done with BG3 in time for Starfield.

I certainly won't be.
Bg3 will take the majority of my time though as it's a game I waited a long time for and it's pretty much everything I wanted it to be. It's going to take a miracle for this not to be my game of the year.

Fuuuuuucksakes, people. An awesome game gets released in a genre you love all you can all do is navel gaze about how Things Aren't Like They Used to Be. Get a grip I'm feeling pretty positive. I'm playing a great game, it's been both a critical and commercial success and it's got actual crunchy depth to it. I reckon people will take notice in the wider industry. Fair enough when Bethesda, MS or Bioware don't it will just increase my scorn for them. Then again I thought immersive Sims would properly come back when Dishonoured and Human Revolution came out. Sigh.

Been using the camera mod to get a more third person feel to exploration. You can see more of the environment. Has its quirks but I'm willing to stick with it. Using it with a controller. Those using keyboards there is a WASD movement mod to go with it (I've got it installed and works well).

Yaay, bank holiday in Belgium. I clocked up 7 hours today. I laughed out loud when, shortly after reaching level 5, I tried Gale's new level 3 spell 'lightning bolt'. Unfortunately, I was stood on a wooden bridge at the time and the lighting bolt took out the bridge as well as 2 enemies and my entire party fell in a chasm and died. Also had some lightning issues. I discovered a pair of boots that would turn pools of water electric when stepped in, which I equipped on my Lae'zel. Thought I was being really smart when I destroyed a barrel of water next to a doorway that a bunch of enemies were piling in through. I plonked my Lae'zel in front of the door and had my Astarion shoot an arrow at barrel, creating a deadly pool of crackling electricity. Unfortunately, the makers of these boots must have been stupid goblins, as they forgot to make the wearer immune to the electricity...

Thanks for testing those ;-) - I have the same boots but haven't had a chance to test them.

But I'm sure I picked up some item somewhere that makes the wearer immune to electric shock. I'll check when I have a chance later.

I can confirm those boots also shock the wearer. I suppose it doesn't actually say it will protect the wearer, there are other effects like that eg, giving psionic damage every action but also taking psionic damage. Bit weird tbh.

My discovery queue in Google Chrome is now full of BG3 articles. One was all about one of the companions, Karlach . Whom, playing as Wyll, I unfortunately was tasked to kill. So I did. Whoops. No barbarian in my party then, I guess.

I have a ring called 'The sparkswall' that protects the wearer against shock. No clue where it came from but highly recommended.

No barbarian in my party then, I guess. How dare you. (I didn't mean to read that spoiler but that was actually useful for my plans... Now I just have to hope DadFE doesn't like (the second spoiler) Wyll, otherwise our co-op playthrough will have a bit of a... conflict of interest, shall we say)

No barbarian in my party then, I guess. Not sure how it plays out playing as the character you are, but it turns out Wyll is being lied to and Karlach isn't a devil at all. This comes out at camp not long after her joining you. Could be you can find that out while playing as him too. Not sure how you can recruit her as a companion though. Can another party member talk to her? I think I did actually have Wyll in my party when I first recruited her, but I somehow got split from him. Not sure if there is some kind of confrontation if he is around

Not 100% sure though. Not sure if siding with Wyll would actually start a fight or kick Karlach out in that situation though... Regardless, I don't plan on trying it out

I think Fraser Brown's review summarises how good this is www.pcgamer.com/baldurs-gate-3-review/Not sure about best ever. As BG2 and Planescape still have that for me. But they're formative to me so maybe nothing can touch that.

I was starting to feel like the game was getting a little easy in act 2, and then I got to a fight that kicked my butt three times in a row before I managed to keep half the adds occupied in a Hunger of Hadar for like five turns and scraped by. I only realised after I was done that there was a way to start in a much better position. Good times. Yurgir. Yes, I walked right into the ambush three times in a row.

I just got up to the party scene after the goblin stuff, and 5 seperate characters have propositioned my halfling bard for sex.
I'm happy for the people who are into this sort of thing, but for me that is very weird and slightly off-putting. I know that every game must be horny now, but this is reminding me of the worst parts of bioware romances.

Also, it's weird that you've got a team of a whole variety of differing personalities, but as far as sex goes everyone is super progressive and up for anything. Regardless of species, gender, sexuality, everyone is DTF at all times with no preferences.
I know that having characters go "actually no, I'm not gay, sorry" would be objectionable to people who want representation and such. They're not wrong to want that, and I don't think there's a way to do this that would make everyone happy. But as it is, it's like living on a hippie commune or something.

I don't know anything about the D&D world, so I can just easily assume that they don't care about such things there (which isn't really that desimilar to cultures from our own past, such as Ancient Greece and, I think, Rome).
I would also say that the relationships do feel different for different companions. My relationship with Shadowheart has become romantic and there hasn't been any sex yet, just enjoying a night together drinking wine by a waterfall. Whenever I talk to her in camp she will say things like "I was just thinking about you". Lae'zel, on the hand, is 24/7 "I want to lick sweat from your legs".
Astarion is great with his very innuendo heavy dialogue and enjoy getting him catty by mentioning how much better Shadowheart looks than him. It really feels like an open friendship my character has been able to develop with him.
I would say the relationship stuff works really well in expanding the characters of your companions and avoids being just a sex tick list. I don't think they could have done it much better.

I actually think Dragon Age Inquisition did it better. I don't particularly like that game overall, but it had options ranging from "complete horndog up for anything at any time, with anyone" (Iron Bull), to people who are hetero or queer-only, people who want casual flings, people who are not interested in any romantic relationship at all, etc etc.
Hell, earlier BG games had party members who were just not up for romance in the first place.
Anyway, it's not a deal-breaker or anything, I'm still loving it. But sometimes it feels like the characters were designed with fanfiction in mind, by teenagers and for teenagers. It's the horniest RPG I've ever played by some stretch.

But they're formative to me so maybe nothing can touch that. I saw that too, very impressive. Has to be one of their highest scores ever. Balancing that the Eurogamer review was 4/5 citing serious bugs and a bit of a drop off in quality later on as the negatives.

I've seen the horny complaint a lot, but it's not really my impression of the romances so far. Is it that the option is there that's upsetting people or are they annoyed that they're not turned down when they actively flirt with people? Been on a date with Shadowheart and we've kissed once. We're just being cute so far. I was the one who instigated the kiss and had the option not to
With Gale I had an early interaction was clearly leading somewhere but I shut it down and we've been nothing but friends since. Karlach came on strong almost immediately, which makes sense given her character and situation. I said we're just friends and while she's still horny she hasn't directed it at me (there was a joke about Withers...) Astarion is a horndog but he doesn't like me much and was all "I'm gonna get laid tonight but not with you, you smelly potato" at the tiefling party.
Lae'zel suddenly wanted to lick my sweat or whatever but I turned her down and the only time it's come up since was at the party when she said it's a shame I'll never find out how her lips taste.
Wyll hasn't flirted. Can't even remember if I had the option to flirt with him.
I've had two opportunities to flirt with Halsin if I wanted, but I didn't and he hasn't come on to me at all.
Minthara had a workplace accident.
So two 2/7 have actively flirted with me. Astarion probably would if I wasn't such a goody-two-shoes, so make it 3/7.

Hah, I didn’t even realise Minthara was a party option.
She…may not get that opportunity.

Not sure if there is some kind of confrontation if he is around Playing as Wyll, it was a non-issue. Find and kill Karlach was his personal quest, akin to Lae'zel's quest to find the crèche. I was told to go find that she-devil who is on a killing spree. I found her, bumped into some paladins who were like "Yeah, she's down by the river, taking a break from killing innocents. Feel free to go get her." So I did. Found her down by the river, had a very brief 4v1 fight. Killed her. Job done.
Got a nice reward for completing my quest and carried on none the wiser. Nobody in my party objected. No approved/disapproved notifications.
Then a few days there's an article in my google discovery queue mentioning Karlach. Until then I had no clue she wasnt' just an NPC. =)

*shrug*
Maybe I'm just more sensitive to it or something, I dunno. I'm happy that this stuff is there for the people who like it, but to me the playersexual aspect of these characters feels less developed or interesting than any other part of them.
That said, Gale is my boy. It was a bit strange when one of the options at his first camp interaction was to imagine us making out (which he was into), but whatever. I am kind of looking forward to a little menage a trois with the goddess of magic, that sounds fun.

My Wyll spoke to everyone at the party and they all went "Oh, don't let me keep you from mingling with the others." O_o Nobody was looking to jump my bones. My character spent 2 nights with Lae'zel and I let Asa tarion bite my neck, so he's super friendly now. Other than that, I think he's silently wanking into one of the many empty backpacks or pouches that clutter his inverntory during those long rests.
Speaking of cluttery inventory. Is there any way to rearrange stuff in you quickslots?
