Are there many scans that are missable? This is reminding me of Horizon ZD and FW where you need to scan all machines, and at least one only shows up in a story mission. One Pirate Lore on the firgate at the start. There's a couple of creatures (not bosses) that also only appear rarely, and are then replaced when you go back to them, but the full ending doesn't rely on scans.

I don't think you can miss any scans, but I belive you can miss a single artifact. I think thats possibly the only missable thing.

Pretty much what The12thMonkey said. I probably wouldn't worry about the scans anyway. Its all about the items.

Yeah, you can definitely miss scans. A couple of lore bits before the parasite queen, plus bosses and then things like unique wasps in boss encounters too. I think one of Flaagra's tentacles might count too (or could be making that up) They only unlock galleries anyway, so not the end of the world if you miss them.

Needing to collect everything for trophies has developed a completionist mindset in me!

Needing to collect everything for trophies has developed a completionist mindset in me! The lack of them is the one thing I love about Nintendo. They're great in theory, but I'm a sucker for grinding games that don't deserve it.

Getting a platinum trophy is a nice feeling. Some games make it fairly easy if you're a completionist (Like Hitman3), some make it stupidly hard by forcing you to win online games against randoms (FarCry 5), or complete fairly insane skill challenges (Just Cause 3), or leave you at the mercy of RNG (Monster Hunter gold crowns...)
A fun game is still a fun game and I know I will enjoy Metroid Prime.

Aye. But its nice to set your own targets and put something down when the time is right.
I am aiming for 100% item collection, but I am avoiding guides and my memory is very hazy. I keep searching particular rooms I think there might be an item in, but I could just be remembering rooms I spent ages looking at in the past that actually didn't have anything. Damn foggy brain.

I don't remember enough about specific rooms. But some of the rooms I've entered have triggered memories, such as the half pipe type thing that you need the morph ball boost to jump up. Plus I've probably got mixed memories about the three Metroids that I played on GC and Wii.

Yeah! There was one ability I forgot was in Prime 2 and not this one! It was only after getting the final suit upgrade I remembered.
I'd been looking forward to it all game, too...

It took me a little while to remember that upgrades make a pulsing sound when you are in a certain proximity of them. In some places, like the labs, it might not immediately stand out due to the other tech in the room, but when a tree starts making a wooom-woom sound, it's a little suspicious!

Also, if you're like me and aren't too bothered about getting all the upgrades, there is actually another way to get the additional endings for the game. watching them on YouTube

I finally finished Prime this afternoon! Not a single death (Normal Mode), but I fell just short on both items and scans at 95%. Ooph.
Its a fantastic game, but I have a couple of nitpicks. Mainly, the game dips in quality towards the end. The last major area lacks the visual interest and variety of the others and the sense of wonder is completely lost.
Further more, it also requires constant beam changes, which is trickier on Switch than on Gamecube/Wii. I prefer the beam stacking of Prime 3 and the 2D series, which makes combat far less fiddly.
On the plus side, this is a beautiful remaster, visually. I clocked 16 hours on my playthrough, in part because I kept slowing down or stopping altogether, just to take in the scenery. Amazing stuff.
The music is also fantastic, but obviously that is, for the most part, ripped straight out of Super Metroid.
If I were to rank it, its still only the 4th best in the series.
1. Super Metroid 2. Metroid Dread 3. Zero Mission 4. Metroid Prime

I lost my first hour of progress on this last night, I clearly must have missed a save point as I'd beaten the first boss and then ran out of time after that. I was being really methodical with scanning everything, and I think I must have spent too much time doing that when I should have been running.
That left a bad taste, having to start all over again from the very beginning.

Did the giant countdown and everything blowing up around you not prompt you to get a bit of a wiggle on?

I failed first time around on that, because I stopped to shoot all the little parasites. Luckily I'm not a total n00b, so I'd found the save room.

Also..
/whispers quietly Molar has a point, not being able to tag places on the map for later return is a bit of a pain.

Thats another reason Metroid Dread is better! You can tag stuff.

Just played through the opening and it's easily done in 15 mins if you know where you're going.
Hard mode is a bit more brutal than I remembered it to be! Funnily enough I had to leg it into a nearby save room to refill my health before the boss. Think I only managed to get as far as the penultimate boss on hard back in the day, as that was some absolute bullshit.

I got the plasma beam yesterday, but then took a wrong turn into the Phazon mines, losing a lot of health in the process. The nearest "safest" route to a save point was back at Magmoor caverns, but that route back was still riddled with space pirates. The last two areas I had to get through with only 2 (two!) health points: A large cavern with flying space pirates and then a corridor with flames. The flying bastards I cheated by blindly firing the plasma beam through the door until they were all dead. After that it was just a matter of moving carefully between the fire nozzles. So I somehow managed to reach the save point, but it doesn't get more tense than this

The plasma beam does DOT too and is great for taking out those flying pricks. Just hit them with a charged up shot and duck behind cover while it ticks away at their health. Absolutely love that beam and wish you didn't have to keep switching away from it to open doors.

There are pirates later on too that you have to switch weapons for. Or at least I assume you have to, as every other weapon outside of their weakness just bounced off.

Found an option in settings last night to swap the controls for switching visors and switching beams, so you switch beams with the dpad, and visors with X+dpad
I found I was switching beams way more and this makes it a lot easier to do in combat
Apologies if this has already been discussed

The morph ball jump mentioned a few pages back is a game changer. I like navigating everywhere in morph ball mode anyway, so this is just marvelous! Curious to see how easy it makes double bomb jumps...
