Probably best you bin the game then. If I played something that annoyed me that much I’d try something else instead.

That stretch without saves up to the power bomb is fucking awful. I'd say easily the hardest bit in the game.
I don't recall hating it back at launch, but it really sucks now and I'm 100% on team Molar.

It’s a remaster of a 20 year old game mush

Yeah, I think it’s just because you suck at the game, like you said. I finished it back in the day and I am dreadful at games. Maybe concentrate less on the little things that are annoying you, and enjoy the experience. With the greatest respect, fuck right off. Games have changed over the last 20 years. And having a giant area with tough enemies and a boss before you can even save, forcing you to repeat all of it when you die, feels a lot like 20-year-old game design.
You managed it without getting frustrated 20 years ago? Good for you! But I can only talk about my experience. Which isn't all bad! - I would have binned the game long before now if it was - but is not all good either. And if I want to vent about the shitty, outdated parts to help get over my frustration, then I'm going to, in the thread that is dedicated to this game. Other people here manage to tolerate dissenting opinions to the love-in, you should be able to manage it too. Don't play Sekiro whatever you do. Agreed with others though - it's definitely the most pain-in-the-arse part of the game.

Sorry for the confrontational tone everyone, I just don't like it when someone tells me how I should talk about a thing I'm playing. "Just don't be frustrated!" is not a good or useful response to someone who is frustrated.
Time for a lie-down!

As a balance, here are some of the things that I really like about this game that I have never played until now:
-Great general atmosphere, it feels very lonely -Great graphics, music -All the little story nuggets around the place -Mostly great bosses, like the big plant thing at the end of the ruins -Getting meaningful upgrades at a regular clip feels real good!
And I like that it's (probably) not going to be a 40+ hour game. It feels small and manageable, which feels pretty rare these days.
There, those are some positive things. Now when I moan about stuff that I find legitimately shitty, please refer back to that as evidence that I like many things about this game too.

Repeating 20 minutes isn't that bad by old game standards.. some of them would make you repeat bloody hours!

I haven't picked this up for a little while. My next objective is the "large source of Phazon found on a mobile source" hint, and I know full well what sort of pain I'm in for. I'd like to 100% the items at the very least, and I feel like I might be on track for that, but earlier talk in the thread has got me interested in getting the Wii hooked up for Echoes and Corruption.

I thought that, in the age of roguelikes and dark souls, everyone liked being kicked around by hard games again?

I don't mind lack of saves and all that jazz, but it's when I'm railroaded into a hard boss that makes me bounce of games. Souls, I can co-op, but stuff like this, I have to put it on Casual, or I just won't make progress.

Saying that, while it's on casual, i haven't died yet, and I'm up to the elder ruins. I mean, even I'm surprised I haven't managed to burn myself to death in magmoor yet

Sorry for the confrontational tone everyone It’s my bad, I can be an antagonistic little choad sometimes. What I meant to say (cough) is that it is one of the most atmospheric games ever and really nails the spookiness and wonder of picking your way through a dead planet, and I hope you enjoy exploring it for the first time 💥

I really want to pull the trigger on buying this, but I'm worried my rose tinted memories may have been exaggerated by time.

It doesn't feel remotely dated to me. Having said that, I was just recently playing Bioshock Infinite, so that is hardly a modern comparison.

I'm on the regular difficulty. I haven't died yet, because I am so god-like, but I've only just made it to the final area, so anything can happen.

Yeah, I think I'm enjoying more now than I did back in the day. Its still not quite as great as the side scrolling ones, but I'm enjoying the slower pace.

Normal difficulty. That "highly mobile source of Phazon" was my only game over so far. And that's because he's a motherfucker and can entirely fuck off.

I really want to pull the trigger on buying this, but I'm worried my rose tinted memories may have been exaggerated by time. They haven’t. I replayed it a few years back on Wii U and it was a joy, but it is one of my absolute favourites of all time, I even love the original controls.
