I think the problem is that *The Mandalorian* is fine. One weird, seemingly anachronistic guy going around making life hard for himself to stick to an old code nobody cares about is kind of cool.
Many Mandalorians, however, just makes it look dumb.

Something Jar-ring about that Jedi. Nice spot

Episode was especially dumb but fun, fans will have an easy time picking this apart. Action was nice and I like that they are chucking some work Jarboys-way, the man has suffered. Imagine a universe where he was a pioneer of mo-cap acting and Andy Serkis was the poster child for a shite LOTR & PotA.

Its the lack of urgency in everything thats killing it. Like why did Starbuck follow the dragon thing and then just fuck off and leave it. And then they all just sat around for 2 days not worried that the kid was being eaten. Before slowly walking to the nest to find him completely unscathed (and dry?) inside the dragons gullet. It's just such bad writing.

It was established in BoBF that the armour protects from being digested. They also said that they wouldn’t recover the child if they went in all guns blazing. Previous instances of attacks had resulted in losses for the group. So, taking your time makes sense. And they’ll have an idea of how long they would have.

Literal plot armour.
Just as well the big bird didn't rip up the kid to feed the babies just after grabbing it, phew!
Glad the Mando version of David Attenborough was there to inform them they could take their time.

We're two episodes behind now and really struggling with the motivation to watch this, particularly after reading the comments on the previous two episodes. I just don't think I have it in me anymore. I've reached my Star Wars threshold I think. I was already close but a decent season of Mando I could just about tolerate. This doesn't seem as it will be one.

Many Mandalorians, however, just makes it look dumb. Exactly my thoughts. Much like Boba Fett, Mando's starting to feel sidelined in his own show. Mando works well as a "lone ranger" with a sidekick, but it seems like they're actively trying to centre the show other characters now, which doesn't play to the strengths of the show's premise of a lone "cowboy in space".

And those other Mandalorians are Stormtrooper level incompetent while wearing charity shop armour

The monster of the week thing just feels like padding in 2023. Fewer big CGI monsters please.

The episode of the week thing isn’t being done well and I really don’t give a shit about their little tribe. There’s no obvious overall arc to save it either. Mandi needs to go off doing something interesting.
This needs to improve fast or it won’t last much longer.

When the giant bird thing appeared it was a genuine eye roll moment. Very much, right we're doing this again are we?
As you say, needs some intrigue and an arc or I'm out.

I was looking at the water, but PLOT TWIST a sky alligator this time.
I haven’t rewatched the first season, but was thinking back and that structure where it’s just him collecting bounties and having one-off adventures is a kind of shownI’d have preferred. Given the other cult members are just hanging around on a beach now, it’s hard to understand how their economy works. I mean, I guess they have plenty of water and those baby birds will feed them for months, but still.

How many episodes before they’re riding those birds?

I still haven't even started on this season because of the requirement to go off and watch some long Boba Fett episodes first. I'm enjoying you guys tearing it to shreds though. Though maybe the version I'm constructing in my imagination (see above) is better than the reality.

There’s only really one, maybe two, Boba Fett episodes that might be required viewing if you’re just into following the Mandalorian story

Haven't watched it yet, but dissapointing to see the reviews.
I actually think an episodic format can be a great thing.
It's why I liked the first two seasons and started to get bored when they started leaning more into the arc and mythology, but it sounds like they're trying to be episodic but just not doing it well?

It is treading water a bit at the moment but I maintain this week’s episode was very fun and enjoyable, if dumb.

Yeah as dumb as it is in still enjoying it. It's certainly not as bad as Boba Fett.

The Children of the Watch are the dumbest motherfuckers in Star Wars, this season is rammed full of them.

The episodes you need to watch have basically nothing to do with Boba Fett he's not even in them. They're just Mandalorian episodes.

Haven't started it yet either, but it's not sounding too good so far. I will hopefully enjoy it enough once i do. Shame it's dipped after the first two seasons being quite enjoyable. Must have caught bobafettitis after the close contact.

Bloody hell. We didn't even manage to finish ep3 last night. Left it with still 20 minutes to go. Fuck me is that a long boring episode with shite characters. The start with the TIE interceptors was great though. After that? Blimey. We'll need to try summon up the willpower to watch the last part of the episode now but I can't be arsed.

Two 50 minute Boba Fett episodes. Yeah but those are getting down under 45 once you deduct the Disney+ extended end credits penalty

Well you've all been giving it a kicking, but I'm still really digging this. It's such a midweek slice of joy. Yeah there's some stupid shit and its not as good as season 2, but I love it.

Halfway through latest. We'll ignore the foundling stupidity, and give credit to the Grogu flashback. That, in a TV show not long ago would've been a series of crass 5 second edits to minimise the CGI cost. The fact they just threw that whole sequence in - thumbs up, ropey saber work and all. It still doesn't beat the hazy, Bo chasing birdie into sunset shot a bit earlier though, that was gorgeous.
