My problem with ep3 was the 'twist' you could see coming from 12 parsecs away. Just felt so unsatisfying, especially when the Bo Katan stuff was good and earned.

I thought the twist was going to be that she DIDN’T betray him, kidnap him etc. Nope, pretty paint-by-numbers there.

I’d have been less enthralled by the ending if he had turned out to be undercover, and turned on her for betraying the Empire. Using her to get the cloning tech for uncle poppa Palps.
Instead we got a totally chuffed up, can I have a minute alone with him, you know, with this machine that can be turned into a monstrous device by turning up the dial.
And yet I loved the episode for the idea that the fledgling republic was capable of being as blind and evil as the Empire.

That episode, although not as well written as it could have been and the twist was obvious, it did make me want a series more like that with one off stories around the galaxy.

I guess Star Wars Visions is the closest thing we'll have to an anthology style series, but again, heavily Jedi and "references" laced.
Doubt we'll ever see a day in the life of...one grunt in those star destroyer bridge pits, contemplating how they ended up there and dreaming of being a rebel in little vignettes of imagination, cutting between some patrol action in realtime, and picturing themself in that action. Simple idea, easy 30mins, but people(producers) WANT the Grogu and corny one-liners, no ?
I maintain they didn't have anything else to fill the gap between arcs, took a lose thread and tried to turn it into rope, and it should get back on track to the next objective. Like the playing-a-game-comparisons, this episode was the sidequest you did for completion, not because you wanted to.

They used to, and still do anthology novels. They were part of a series called Tales of …; and now it’s called From a certain point of view. They could easily take the format and play with it. You might get entire spin off series from it.

Apparently the pirates Mando encountered earlier in the season may have been a stealth introduction for their appearance in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew later this year.

See I guess I was slightly on the other side of the fence, in that it made me want to hunt down the team that delivered that segment and make sure they're never again involved in the entertainment business.

Well not necessarily that team to do it.
It’s probably the most we’ve seen on TV/film of more normal/everyday people. I do wish they’d made Coruscant look busier. It can’t be that hard to CGI in a crowd of people in the background in those plaza shots.

I’m confused. Are we all forgetting our theories from previous seasons a pot cloning, Jedi, Palpatine and whatnot?
This Pershing stuff is obviously going to lead to stuff that will continue to cascade through Mando and subsequent contemporary - give or take a few years - future SW series. It’s more setup.
Kind of like how the Mando episodes of BoBF were setup for this season of Mando.
I also thought the CGI was absolutely fantastic except for the stuff that looked green screen. The opening pew-pew fight was gorgeous and looked as good as it gets, movies included

It’s probably the most we’ve seen on TV/film of more normal/everyday people. I think my biggest problem with the episode is that Andor has spoiled me for exactly this. Everything about this short story has been executed better before; the fall from grace of an officer. The banality of office life on coruscant. The consequences of “daring heroic adventures” on individuals involved in the sidelines. The way a persons life is affected by political forces out of their control. And yes the ending with the “torture dial” was proper shit.

It’s moronic beyond belief.
In the same episode we have a higher-up saying we can’t repurpose benign Imperial tech because it’s Imperial. Then they ask us to accept they repurposed Mind Flayer torture tech for benign mind-control purposes, but didn’t think to put a piece of tape over the “flay” setting.
It’s like Book of Boba Fett set the tone for what we can expect now, and everything successful about The Mandalorian up until this point was some kind of accident.

Saturday afternoon/matinee fun, versus the drama of Andor. Except it's slid more towards stupid than fun. Hell, I remember us complaining about the weak Seven Samurai/AT-ST episode, but it seems fucking great compared to now.
God, let's hope Andor wasn't a fluke and they fuck S2, eh ?

Holy fuck that was dumb. I actually burst out laughing when the dragon thing spat out the kid alive and unharmed.
I did quite enjoy it though.

It was more enjoyable.
I like the blacksmith woman character a lot. Starbuck revealing her secret and she effectively says “yeah, it happens”

I genuinely did enjoy it. It was like some kind of fevered dream where nothing really made any sense. Them getting the pigeon things off the ship at the end was the coup de grâce.

The writing is just so awful, I have to watch Mando first then The Bad Batch second so it cancels out the live action crap with stuff people have actually thought through.

I thought it was great. Kid in indestructible armour isn’t eaten by parent creature trying to feed its young. That makes sense to me. You ever seen cuckoos? The biological imperative was at play here.
Bo-Kataan getting machavellian (sp?!) in here, like that. It isn’t GoT type ‘What is going on.’, but enjoyable still.
Grogu displaying a memory, that must be building to something else. Very much what I want. Pop corn level of entertainment.

But why the fuck did they wait 38 hours to attack? “This is an emergency! We must wait immediately!” “What for?” “Small Bo Katan helmet dinner scene” “This is the way”

How have they made all of the Mandalorians so ruinously stupid at all times? It’s like watching some nerds cosplay them at a comicon.

I think that was my favourite episode of this season so far. Very light and breezy, felt a lot like watching a live action cartoon and it didn’t spend too much time wallowing in lore.
Lots of cool puppet looking effects too.
It is also quite funny the extent to which this group of Mandalorians suck at basically everything. No wonder the Empire could get away with nuking their whole planet.
