I'm glad it's good! Been looking forward to it for a while. Is Rowling actually anti-trans? I thought she just said if you're born as a female that's different from being a trans female, which it is. I'm sure I've missed something and don't wish to offend anyone, but I don't see any issue with what she said. But the game is nothing to do with her anyway. I don't really think you have missed anything. I'm yet to see anything that she has said that is completely heinous. I read a number of links shared in a review or two there again this evening because I honestly feel like I'm going a bit mad with this. It seems to me that lots of people say she's a bigot and as such everyone else feels they need to also echo this. She's certainly not 100% aligned to the most left leaning thinking in this area but I don't know, I just can't see huge extremist views in what she's said. To give an example of how its not just a few dubious tweets, JK decided to spew misinformation on Mermaids, the trans chairty, which led to her followers flooding their helplines to the point of having to shut down temporarily and bring back staff on a reduced rota. No sense in doing this, this actively harms trans people from getting specialised help they need and you would think she would speak out on it, but that never came. She has power and sway and rather than use it productively, she chooses to spend her time spreading hate against a small subset of people.

I don't think the evidence is particularly hard to find, she literally wrote an essay about the issue.
And there are multiple breakdowns about that, going into detailed point-by-point explanations of why the things she said are shitty, why it's irresponsible for someone with her influence to be peddling falsehoods about this kind of thing. To say nothing of the social media stuff, where for a time she would just not let the issue die.
It's fine if none of that convinces you, but imo it's not really obscure.

Just played the intro and got to Hogwarts, currently picking my house. From the moment it starts it feels quite special - really high production quality and very well directed - it kicks off with a bang and is very good so far.
4 performance modes available: Quality and Frame Rate, and then if you have a tv that supports them, Balanced or HFR. I went Balanced as it was a noticeably better image than High Frame Rate and still feels smooth.

Really enjoying this so far - feels similar to Insomniac’s Spider-Man to me in that it’s got a solid combat system tied together with a good understanding of what fans want from the franchise.

Saw the intro on YouTube, I can only assume they based the first character you meets' appearance on Paul Whitehouse as Rowley Birkin.

Read a couple of reviews that suggest the characterisation is a bit lacking.

So do you think as a non Harry Potter fan who hasn't seen the films, it would still be worth buying? I very much like the look of the game.

Might as well just do what I'm doing and watch the films over the next few weeks, then grab the game when it's dropped in price a bit if I still fancy it.

I’m off sick and have tons of psn credit from the time I accidentally bought way too much whilst drunk. Fuck it I’m going in.

There is, it runs at 1800p but commonly 1440p at 30fps with reduced texture quality and draw distance and it's only for ground reflections and shadows not water reflections.

You’re right, but it wasn’t presented at start (unless I totally missed it). In-game settings menu has the option for Fidelity, Fidelity with RT, Performance, Balanced and HFR Performance.

I'm guessing there won't be a DF article on it given that they're pretending this game doesn't exist over at EG Towers.

So weird pretending one of the biggest games of the year isn't a thing. So if it come out that George Lucas was something bad do we all then pretend star wars isn't a thing? I mean it would not surprise me as George did seem like a bit of a wrong one.

So, politics aside, please, more opinions on the game? Suitable for a knowledgeable and mature eleven year old? Thanks

They’ve said that they weren’t sent code yet, but either way there’s a day one patch so anything they do is going to be after that. From the horse’s mouth: “With regards to Hogwarts Legacy, you'll have noticed that reviews went live today - we do not have code yet and it's understood via Warner Bros that there'll be a day one patch on launch day. We'll figure out how we cover it and if we cover it once we've actually seen it.“

Absolutely. The world is incredibly well done. So many lovely touches to the environments. Basically the art direction is spot on. Other than that everything is as you would expect from a aaa open world game. The combat is good, but may be a bit much for an 11 yr old, probably not though.
Zero glitches in the first few hours.

It’s also just kind of bizarre. She could have gone off and quietly been a billionaire and kept her legacy intact, but she’s firmly nailed it as the hill to die on at the expense of how history will ultimately treat her. Though she remains a billionaire so doubt she really cares all that much. Same with glinner, only without the billionaire aspect. Father Ted, Black Books, IT Crowd etc are now tainted by his grievances. See Glinner is obviously not well, he's gone so far off the deep end it's truly strange. Anyone can see that, it's obvious. He's let some misgivings transform hits entire life and personality. Sad really. I'm just not seeing that so much with Rowling, though I haven't watched the linked video someone shared there yet so perhaps it would be more obvious then. Glinner is perfectly well. Please can we stop blaming bigotry on mental health?

Thanks for posting that. Im not proudly ignorant, but I do tend to stay off social media and don’t go out of my way to find out what celebrities are saying on twitter. I used to be on there a lot but found myself getting progressively angrier and arguing with everyone all the time. Around the same time I noticed Glinner seemed to be getting more and more radicalised! But that is a good summary. Basically she’s using her platform to demonise an already extremely vulnerable section of society, sigh. Can we just bin Twitter already?

One of the "interesting" things about Rowling is how she claims to be a feminist, but apparently never has anything to say about women's issues unless there's an angle for attacking trans people.

The PC release seems to be in a bad state again performance-wise. Apparently unplayable with Raytracing on, but still not great without it (on a high-end system). Some visual bugs, but seemingly not a real problem in comparison to the performance.
Other than that reviewers are mostly quite positive about it.

Probably not going to pick this up right now as I have plenty of other things to play at the moment. Hopefully this will be improved by the time I get to it (maybe even with the day one patch). PC once again being dumped with a poor performing version.

Weirdly my brother in law just retweeted something by this person. I read a fair bit of it (it's fairly lengthy). Some fair points from her. Contextualized well. Though the biology section was a bit ridiculous imo and she probably could have done without it, not sure it added much to her argument. The stuff about the paper and disingenuous representation was better. Additionally the stuff about JKR saying she might have decided to be trans if she were young now rather than 30 years ago. In my opinion It's impossible to say she wouldn't have as the writer asserts but I also think it's a ridiculous foundation for an argument from JKR. Overall, can see she has had quite a few bits of dodgy stuff out there which doesn't help marginalized people. finally I feel woefully underqualified to tell any woman how they should feel in relation to some of the fringe issues that seem to be hotly debated.

I'd be mindful of the fact that it doesn't take you being a woman to understand that bigotry against a tiny subset of people just trying to live their life is wrong, nor does being a white male preclude you from recognising and decrying racism when you see it.

For a while there I though Glinner was shorthand for Gary Lineker.

It’s also a wedge issue. The useful idiots have now prised the door open for a return to good old homophobia.

Return to? It never went away. The only reason it's more prevalent is because the mouth breathers discovered social media.
