I look forward to the reviews that forgo reviewing the actual game just to talk about Row...I mean she who must not be named. Those should be fun, although not as fun as the comment section will be (if they allow comments). The main gaming sites have basically been pretending this doesn't exist, which is going to be awkward when it ends up being one of the biggest selling games of the year (I wouldn't be surprised if it is the biggest in the West, but Diablo 4 will likely surpass it globally). Kind of flies in the face of the normal reaction to calls for sites to boycott companies that have revelations of poor workplaces or sexual harassment claims, which is to dismiss them and say that Activision, CD Project Red or Rockstar are too important for the gaming sector to ignore and that they highlight the issues in their reporting of the games. It does feel quite hypocritical if they decide to shun this game while at the same time giving glowing reviews to output from other companies that likely deserve that sort of treatment more. Edit - just noticed the way RPS are going about it. I actually think highlighting alternatives is a great way to go about it, but not actually mentioning why they are doing it makes it look incredibly silly - www.rockpapershotgun.com/celebrate-magical-games-of-witchcraft-and-wizardry-with-magic-week-on-rps

I noticed Eurogamer haven't run a single Hogwarts Legacy story in over a year, assuming this means they won't be reviewing it, but who knows.
Hoping for a Digital Foundry rundown, but given their Eurogamer affiliation wasn't sure if they would or not.

Yes it's hypocritical but it's such a symbiotic industry they can only bite so much of the hand that feeds them otherwise they'd be something like Kotaku making articles based on fuck all just to fulfill their word count for the week.

The difference is that this game is overtly connected to an individual who is pretty heinous and has a wider reach than just games. It’s them picking a side, basically.

I just finished the twenty minute ACG review and he was really positive about it and in pretty much every area of the game he was pleasantly surprised with how good it was.

I'm a bit bummed out that this quest is apparently a Playstation exclusive, but here's hoping eventually it makes it's way to the other formats after some timed exclusivity thing has expired:
EDIT:
Oh. Okay then. Guess I'm buying the missus some DLC next year.

Apparently the PC version has some serious issues. Oh dear. Well I'll download it and wait for patches - the normal course of events.

The difference is that this game is overtly connected to an individual who is pretty heinous and has a wider reach than just games. It’s them picking a side, basically. For the record, I find Rowling's views unfounded and her doubling down on them particularly vile. Gaming sites pick sides all the time though and talk about what sides they are picking. Completely ignoring the game is more deafening than actually talking about it and highlighting the issue. I actually feel that they are right to not completely boycott games from other companies and to make sure they use the space to discuss issues, be that political views of significant team members or poor work conditions that it is produced under. This approach of hoping it will go away if you ignore it just makes them look afraid to talk about it rather than standing by convictions. I notice that two places that appear to be doing this the most are RPS and Eurogamer. Two UK based sites, which likely says a lot about where we are with this "debate" here.

Also surprised at the unanimously positive reviews. Sounds like they've really knocked it out of the park. I think I may pick up the 3-day early edition tomorrow.

Not just the PC version having issues apparently. Expecting some fairly extensive patch notes in the near future.

The game itself isn't a problem since rowling had nothing to do with it, the problem is the royalties she gets from the sales. Therefore activists should be encouraging people to pirate it. Win win.

Yeah, but it's a tenner and I rarely get any time to game on weekends, so it's not a huge problem for me.

The Playstation exclusive features means that I will potentially pick this up for my Xbox at a huge discount in 12 months time (if I still have interest then).
Fucking Sony and their deals. I wish the competition ombudsman would take a look at Sony's business deals as hard as they do MS.

Fuck, reviews are in and I was hoping it would turn out to be a turd on fire because I really didn't want to give any more money to its hateful author. Sadly, it turns out my raging FOMO will cause me to pre-order the Deluxe edition. I'm leaning towards the PS5 over Series X for the exclusive quest and haptics.

I'm glad it's good! Been looking forward to it for a while. Is Rowling actually anti-trans? I thought she just said if you're born as a female that's different from being a trans female, which it is. I'm sure I've missed something and don't wish to offend anyone, but I don't see any issue with what she said.
But the game is nothing to do with her anyway.

No she's pretty much gone off the deep end regarding trans people, at first it was wrapped up in being about looking out for cis women from the dangers of abusive men into straight unvarnished hate speech disguised as just asking questions.

Fair enough, I'm pretty ignorant to most things celebs say online so I'll happily accept she's a wrong un.

Im sure thats the way for most people (although her being a piece of shit is bleeding through the barriers) so you cant really judge people for playing it.
I wouldnt touch it with a shitty stick now or at the very least would donate to mermaids to salve my conscience if I absolutely, positively had to play it.

She is a dangerous cunt because she has massive reach and horrible opinions. Probably not that much different to most other almost 60 year olds but not as many people listen to them.

The poster asking if it's possible to change the characters gender after you start got a chortle out of me. I'm not actually sure if it was tongue in cheek though in fairness, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

It's hidden in just the right amount of "legitimate question" camouflage to pass unnoticed (many such games have ways to change your appearance after you start, gender included) but still get a laugh from those knowing what it is/could be throwing shade on. Well crafted, honestly 👏
