Its probably quite a noob move but last night and this morning I’ve favoured having whips covering my front and back with some Bibles doing the real damage and that blue homing missile thinning out the hordes. Figure I’ll probably need to specialise soon as I start buying PowerUps. Do people generally go for one big build to take it as deep as they can or is there a lot of respeccing along the way? Who knew there was so much to learn in such a similar game? Everyone, about three years ago

Some maps you can just stay in one position and have everything come to you. Build dependent obv.
You've got a lot to unlock.
Enjoy!

Honestly, in my experience it doesn't really matter that much which weapons you use, by the end of a run you'll be filling the screen no matter what.
The important thing is to evolve the weapons, which you'll probably figure out how to do at some point.

Garlic and bible are fairly essential when you're starting out. Get evolved bible and you're laughing.

Make it a goal to stand still with garlic and bible, farm the first level for coins and get all the upgrades.
A few things come naturally and you get even stronger, the unlocks menu guides you.

Garlic and bible were my go to combo on PC and it's the same on PlayStation, it's just so powerful. If garlic isn't popping up the laurel is a good fall back to level up, won't do damage but will keep you alive.

I went on the biggest run I've had on this game, ending at level 107. The game seemed to just explode when I got to that level, as enemies just crushed me haha.

Unlocked the Library. Haven’t played it yet but should be grinding and mining tonight.
Managed a sweet run where I was able to get Garlic and Bibles as well as two projectile weapons with duplicate as an option on the level up screen. Really felt like the stars were aligning for the first time with that combination. Made it twenty five minutes which felt pretty great for one of my first ten ever runs.

Poe in the Library with attractorb, garlic, bibles and projectile weapons and you can pretty much stand still.

I don't really rate the Garlic that much. It's handy to have at the beginning of a stage, but it drops off quickly, and by the end I usually regret not choosing something that's useful for the whole run.
Bibles are great, though.

On these initial runs Garlic has been especially useful against the really dense flocks of bats and blue ghosts as you can walk right through them and pick up a whole level-up’s worth of gems in a single pass.
I do need more cash to beef up the PowerUps though. Have Duplicate as a permanent buff would be very handy at this stage in allowing me to play more aggressively.
I bloody love this game.

Managed a 29:48 run last night. Bastard.
My first evolved weapon too - the whip. Such a difference maker, big range, big damage, great for cornering sub-bosses to get chests out of and that it awards you health for each kill made me effectively invulnerable for a long stretch.
You weren’t wrong about the Library being a good bank to open up. Only did two runs and got 8000+ gold between them.
I assume that bonus stage with the plants has something great hidden in it but its a weird drag to go in there without a plan. Can’t even really mine it for coins very effectively as I wasn’t levelling fast enough to really hack through the place.

That's just a tickle compared to when you've done most the base game.

That's class
How does the DLC work in this? Can you just play it straight from the beginning?
