Feels like they really fucked up the timing of that patch! Guarantee they wanted it to drop at the same time as the show.
What are the bets it fucks up save games? A whole new generation of players will have a nice introduction to Bethesda's buggy early releases.

Considering I have a save file for a disc, and it doesn't work on the digital.. then yeah maybe don't hope you can continue on.

I can't decide if they wanted the patch to coincide with launch or afterwards like we have it. Maybe the original decision was a weekly episode release that changed to a season drop at once and that messed with plans?
Still, instead of the next gen patch being the pull, the show has successfully done it instead affording them the chance to drop the patch so everybody can visibly see the change .... which could al be undone if it breaks saves

So is this just an update? By that I mean will I need to download the PS4 version for it or will it be like Borderlands 3 for example where there is a PS4 and 5 version you can choose to download from?

Wow, that’s a bit of a minefield there. Different versions of the disc also not being compatible with each other.

I did the thing lots of people are doing, and reinstalled Fallout 4. Started by loading my old save, but I’d completely forgotten how to play, what I was doing, where I was. Also I had a full arsenal of high-end weapons, some of which may have been mods, and no sense of danger in encounters whatsoever. And I’ve got all the DLC installed but no idea which of the workshop stuff is DLC, and which is either modded or from the original game. It was all a bit daunting. So I started a new game instead. It’s actually nice going back to absolute basics, and thinking about which perks to get, haven’t looked at that perk tree in years. The graphics haven’t aged great though- I’d try to improve that with mods, but I assume they might all be broken when the current gen update lands… I'm a couple of days ahead of you and having a blast. Forgot how good this game is for immersion, random bullshit and Vats is pure glorious ultraviolence. Playing Survival difficulty with a mod called Survival Options which allows you to set some of the rules like reinstating fast travel (torn on this one) and saves, you absolutely need to save all the time instead of only on wait or sleep. If you are playing with mods from Nexus you have to be a little wary as some of the top all time mods are broke or have more up to date alternatives with less downloads. A lot of them require all the DLC to work as well. Hopefully someone with some sense has done a 2024 guide by now but here are my picks Patch fixes: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4598New UI: next.nexusmods.com/fallout4/collections/pmmttm/revisions/2True Storms: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4472Enhanced Lighting: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/13596Survival Options: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/14650Backpack and camping mods help with Survival as well. Had a good time exploring and creeping through Boston in a thunderstorm where everything can one shot me. They really ripped the heart out of Bethesda games with Starfield. Still keeping it simple I have to add these. Reverb and ambience overhaul: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10189Radiant birds: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2397Camping: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/11734Lowered weapons: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/522

So I guess I'm in the mood now, for obvious reasons. I only finished FO3 many, many years ago (in fact, it was the first game I ever played from the Xbox 360 hard drive, as MS updated the system to allow for disc installs on the same month as it launched). I did start New Vegas a few years ago, but lost interest maybe because some other games dropped, can't remember.
Anyway, should I start NV again now, give it another go? Or should I just go and buy 4? I suppose the DLC would be worth an extra fiver?

I would really like a Beamdog enhanced edition of 1 and 2 right now. The go-to mods seem to be Fallout Fixt and Restoration Project for Fallout 2. I haven't tried any mods for 2, but I have never run into any problems with Fixt.

That's a good point. I kind of forgot about how cumbersome those vertical menus really were. It's not as bad as with some other games as there isn't that much clutter in the old Fallouts, but still not great.

About 20 hours into a new playthrough.
There's a Brahmin stuck in the doorway of workshop called Nessie that I can't move without console commands.
I look somewhat like an apocalyptic Nazi and all the women on my farms are wearing daisy dukes and Rayban aviators.
The hours I spend trying on fancy new hats in rooms full of dismembered corpses is racking up fast.

Yeah and I forget the details but the GUI uses a lot of screen space, it's kinda too zoomed in, the GUI has animations switching modes and seems to have been designed with 1 mouse button still in mind... Yknow tool tips, drop downs etc. would all just make it nice and snappy.

I'm really tempted to grab the game on Xbox (not sure why I'd hurt myself like this, but I want something to play on my Series S).
Supposing I do get the GOTY edition, is the DLC properly integrated for a first time playthrough, or am I gonna get quest cues for level 30 characters or something right off the start? I remember when Morrowind GOTY would give you starter quests for Tribunal and Bloodmoon, except it didn't tell you they were effectively end-game areas.

malek86Can't remember the names of the dlc off the top of my head but all integrate from the off apart from the far harbour and nuka world which require you to be levelled and journey off-map. 2 or 3 are for building expansion stuff. You can essentially satisfactory/factorio automate crafting with conveyors etc. The robot is the sole dlc I had for quite a while as I thought it was the best and I didn't care for building. It adds a new faction of roving robot/raider parties that can kick your ass. You can also create a robot companion with stuff you find in the wasteland. Finally there is also a story quest to take down the mechanist. Not played far harbour or nuka world yet but I believe they were rescued quite well. Nuka world is like Disney world, with it's own theme tune and I'm lóoking forward to it after I finish Horizon

The regular edition is £2 on practically any high street though. That's how much I paid for my PS4 copy, making me a bit more forgiving of it's dreadful flaws and botched story.
I'd be too scared to update and risk my save, I just know it would wipe everything out. It already glitches and refuses to overwrite saves sometimes forcing me to do clean up and manually delete them periodically.
Buying Fallout 4 used for £2 makes Todd cry.

Nuka World is excellent. Definitely the better of the two add ons, not that Far Harbor is bad or anything. I don’t think it’s somewhere you’d want to go to early game though as you’d just get battered.

The basic edition is a fiver on the Xbox store. The GOTY one is an extra fiver. Guess I can live with ten less euro in my wallet.
Again, getting it on Xbox sounds like a terrible idea when I have a perfectly capable gaming-worthy PC, and the Steam version is cheaper too. Buuut... for some reason I'm kinda nostalgic for that console Bethesda experience from the early 360 days. That's how I played Morrowind, Oblivion and even Fallout 3, since my desktop at the time wasn't really up to it. The 360 releases had bugs, long loading times, no mods, and horrible interfaces and somehow I didn't care.
Edit: no wait. The sale is over. Wtf? Did it last three days only? Oh well... guess I'll wait for another sale, I need to be done with New Vegas first anyway.

My opinion on the DLCs:
Far Harbour is better than almost anything in the main game
Nuka World is dogshit
The building/settlement stuff isn't for me, but great if you're into that sort of thing
