Will it stop it being boring? Only YOU can decide.

I'm a heretic, I think ALL Bethesda RPG's are boring. I got on most with Fallout 3. But I think in general, a lack of a strong main character and a lack of story focus just kinds of kills it dead for me. I think out of Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrorwind or any of the Fallout games, couldn't give you the main storyline, nor any characters of note.
Tried Starfield, stopped when you got to the Bullingdon club or whatever it was, never went back.
I want to like them, I really do, but they feel like the really boring guy at a party who won't shut up about irrelevant shit. I really don't like myself.

Though Fallout New Vegas doesn't have a strong main character, but is still great. I just don't really credit Bethesda with any writing chops. The only one I got on with enough to get to the end of is Fallout 3, but fuck me there's so much filler and it's not really worth the effort.

I never cared much for the story in Bethesda's games tbf. They have always been about the open world.
Which is kind of a problem because I've got a little tried of open world games now.

They seemed to have forgotten about the open the world aspect when they made Starfield unfortunately.

This is great news for everyone and as a free upgrade terrific!
Personally it's still too fresh in the memory to go back (unlike Skyrim which is more a faded memory so I'm currently stuck back into it!). Give it 2-3 yrs though and I might go again with FO4 (completed before inc all dlc so it's going to take some time before I can contemplate that commitment again!)

I'm happy about the upgrade. I've played it for a few hours but never finished it. I subsequently bought all the DLC whenever it was on sale. I started it up again when the trailer for the tv show first came out but, after also starting cyberpunk, found I could really notice the frame rate when moving so stopped almost immediately.
If this is sorted or improved it'd be great.

I'd laugh if the new version breaks Fallout London compatibility when it launches the following day.

I think I bought s the DLC on sale and played precisely none of it. My last foray into Fallout 4 involved researching and installing a load of mods, wandering around going “this looks pretty” and “ooh, I can go into all these (empty) buildings now!”, and then getting bored and uninstalling.
I really should try to start and finish some of the story DLC - I liked the base game just fine, it was nowhere near FO3 or NV but I completed the story and had all my bases how I liked them.

It's interesting that I get caught in the hype of Fallout again because of the TV show. I don't know if I want to start Fallout 4 again, as I fell off it hard the first time round. Like what a lot of people already said in here, the open world didn't seem as interesting as 3, and the characters weren't as quirky as in NV.

The PS4 version is £3.99 currently on the store. So if I buy that I get the PS5 upgrade for free? I also fell off it fairly quickly back when it released, but quite tempted to jump back in at £4.

I got into the hype by doing a playthrough of FO3 (just entered Raven Rock). Borrowed a Xbox for Starfield so this was my first time playing it on anything other than a PS3, and yeah, far more enjoyable.

No brainier! If you liked FO3/NV and want that core experience without all the base building and crafting gubbins shoehorned into FO4 those elements are barely mandatory once past the opening “training” quests. Once I got past that nonsense it’s an enjoyable ride inc. both new map dlc’s imo. A solid 8/10!

I bought the PS4 version a month after launch for half price and completed the game (unlike Skyrim). Just bought it again on Steam to play the DLC, as it's only £8.74 for GOTY.

He's a fictional character, he can be whatever the fuck the writers want him to be.

It apparently just took him a bit to remember that he wasn't actually involved in Fallout 1 in any way.

I did the thing lots of people are doing, and reinstalled Fallout 4. Started by loading my old save, but I’d completely forgotten how to play, what I was doing, where I was. Also I had a full arsenal of high-end weapons, some of which may have been mods, and no sense of danger in encounters whatsoever. And I’ve got all the DLC installed but no idea which of the workshop stuff is DLC, and which is either modded or from the original game. It was all a bit daunting.
So I started a new game instead. It’s actually nice going back to absolute basics, and thinking about which perks to get, haven’t looked at that perk tree in years. The graphics haven’t aged great though- I’d try to improve that with mods, but I assume they might all be broken when the current gen update lands…

I've done that. I've also realised that I just ploughed through the main story in the end. I've completed the main arc and only just hit level 40. I'm now wandering the Wasteland looking for things to mop up.

Forgot how good this game is for immersion, random bullshit and Vats is pure glorious ultraviolence. Playing Survival difficulty with a mod called Survival Options which allows you to set some of the rules like reinstating fast travel (torn on this one) and saves, you absolutely need to save all the time instead of only on wait or sleep. If you are playing with mods from Nexus you have to be a little wary as some of the top all time mods are broke or have more up to date alternatives with less downloads. A lot of them require all the DLC to work as well. Hopefully someone with some sense has done a 2024 guide by now but here are my picks Patch fixes: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4598New UI: next.nexusmods.com/fallout4/collections/pmmttm/revisions/2True Storms: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4472Enhanced Lighting: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/13596Survival Options: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/14650Backpack and camping mods help with Survival as well. Had a good time exploring and creeping through Boston in a thunderstorm where everything can one shot me. They really ripped the heart out of Bethesda games with Starfield.

I remember finding a really good mod for beacons which worked brilliantly with survival mode. You had to craft the beacons but it allowed you to 'dump' a load of scavenged items in a random container within the overworld and a settler from one of your settlements would travel out and collect them for you. It actually worked really well and blended in and felt accurate for the world it's in. I'll see if I can find the link to it edit: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/18757
