I will admit the whole desire to put everything on the Blockchain, such as bills, medical records driving licenses etc, to make it a speculative commodity does make me queasy. The more you read about it the more you realise it's a programmers way of managing society but the programmer in question lacks any form of social skills nor do they have any common sense about life. I'm fine with new fangled ways of doing things, but I've yet to see a compelling argument why crypto currencies are in any way better than fiat currency (unless you want to do something dodgy, which would therefore fall out side of being a social good mostly) or how blockchain achieves anything that a sensible and transparent centrally maintained database does. |

Damn, my 'strategy' is in tatters. I bought into a launchpad at the start of January at what looked like a bargain price, there was a big IDO coming this week that should do at least 100x and a few bonus smaller ones in the mean time. Until the weekend it was looking good, my launchpad tokens were 15% up and the smaller IDOs did ok if not great.
Now my tokens are 25% down and they've postponed the big IDO until the market picks up \o/
I just wanted to make a few quid before the whole silly thing goes tits up, stupid fomo.

NFT "stolen" from OPenSea because the blockchain is such a useless technology that people have to work around it.
According to a Twitter thread by software developer Rotem Yakir, the bug is caused by a mismatch between the information available in NFT smart contracts and the information presented by OpenSea’s user interface. Essentially, the attackers are taking advantage of old contracts that persist on the blockchain but are no longer present in the view provided by the OpenSea application.
OpenSea users sell NFTs by setting a “list price” for potential buyers to see. Due to the nature of smart contracts, if a buyer accepts that list price, the NFT is automatically transferred to them. If an owner wants to re-list an NFT for a higher sale price, the proper way to do this is to cancel the first listing, which costs a “gas fee” that might be in the tens or even hundreds of dollars, so some users had skirted around this by transferring the NFT to another wallet, then back to the original wallet. While this technique apparently removed the listing from the information in OpenSea’s front-end display, the original listing remained active on the blockchain and could allegedly be found through the OpenSea API.
Basically, OpenSea can't be arsed to update the blockchain so they keep their info on little postit notes scattered all over the office. Clever people look at the actual, very safe and secure, blockchain data and buys for the price listed there, rather then on the postit note.
This isn't theft. This is what happens when greedy people tries to use a useless technology.
