So its Splatoon 3 next month (release on 9th September) But there's also a Splatfest World Premier 'demo' on the 27th, teams are Rock, Paper or Scissors (apparently that's also rock paper scissors day, who knew?) www.nintendo.com/store/products/splatoon-3-splatfest-world-premiere-switch/I might not have bothered with it this time around, but as I have an excited 15 year old who wants it for their birthday I'm getting roped in too. Looking forward to this. Owned both 1 and 2, liked them a lot, but just never really sunk the time into them that they deserve. Hope to finally focus a bit more on this one, particularly as it will be the first one that a buddy will be getting too.
Going to be away during the "demo", unfortunately, but probably don't need it to decide whether to get it or not.

For some reason I never got around to getting S2 despite loving the first one on Wii U and having a garish splatoon themed Switch pro controller. Might have to jump on this one.

Due to moving into the worst flat I've ever lived in, I use a 5G device for all my internet needs. It works well enough with certain Switch games, but not all of them. If this uses new net code I should be fine, but if not I wont be able to play online for another year...

If it's a three sim you could always try changing the APN on the router to "3internet". The default APN (three.co.uk) uses CGNAT which doesn't work well for gaming.

Unfortunately I'm with Vodafone and as much as I have googled, it throws up random ugly nat types that many games just do not like. Fortunately all my consoles can connect to it, so I can browse the stores, download games, etc... But even on Xbox a lot of games will not connect to servers.
Bizarrely I can play Tetris 99 and Monster Hunter Rise online, but not Mario Kart 8, Mario Party or Switch Sports. :/

Been playing the splatfest all day.
Pretty much as expected, but a few niggles.
Don't like the new press r1/rz to get into the battle, when you're desperate to get back in, this just adds more penalty for not acting quickly enough. Also wasn't really clear how it works, felt like you had some control of where you could land, but seemed random.
Annoying that you can't see the match breakdown until you either quit or continue the match. It's hard to gauge how well you did, and I used to use it in the previous games as a way to feel slightly better about myself if my team lost.
Really hate the tri colour battles, feels really unbalanced for the defending team. You have to stop the other teams from taking the ultra signal, if the defending team stops it from being taken, it spawns again almost immediately.
As soon as another team take it, it starts spraying ink everywhere that's almost impossible to combat. All the while you also have to try and ink against 2 teams simultaneously (admittedly only teams of 2) , who don't have to fight each other.
But this constant cycle of fighting and defending makes it nearly impossible to Ink territory.
Even if you beat one of the teams, they still both win by default.
Feels like it should be better balanced, with either a cool down on the ultra signal before it comes back, or spraying in the defending teams colour for a short while, or at least make it so the other teams fight as well, or something.
Weapons felt OK, but the combo of secondary/special was never to my liking, pretty sure ill find something I like on the final game.
It was cool seeing other players in the lobby with you, but it would have been better if they weren't presented as holograms.
Enjoyed it for the most part, and still excited for the release, just a bit frustrating with a lot of losing 😅

It’s the girls favourite game, so she put a shift in this evening. And, yeah, it’s still basically the same game as the one on the Wii U, for better or worse.
- I think you can choose where you spawn but it lets you select areas further than you can jump so it seems a bit random
- The Splatana needs a damage boost. I lost so many 1 on 1s because I just couldn’t kill them
- The match stats should indeed be front and centre
- there was so much going on, the overworld ran at like 10fps

Yeah, I forgot about the city framerate, as I was in battle so much.
It was cool seeing the splatfest hub transformation, with all the street vendors and stuff out.
Though I felt the stage was up too high, as you could only see the presenters from far away which meant the music was muted, and it was not front and centre like in the other games.

Just checked the splatfest results and no surprise that my team lost.
Just shows how unbalanced the tricolour battles are, we went into the half time winning on turf battles (putting us as the defending team for the 2nd half), but lost it all by the end.
Really hope they use this data to balance the mode.

I forgot this was out in 9 days. I thought it was Septwmber 30th for some reason. I'm just happy it works on my annoying 5G broadband. I was forced to sign up to it after finding out my flat had no copper or fibre wiring on the property. I'm now stuck with 5G for another 18 months...

It advertises speeds of 1Gbps for 5G, but realistically (with a full strength signal) I average between 50-70Mbps. Its not great, but its still fine for gaming generally. I just often find big installs on the Series X take a fair few hours...
I should actually mention my issue is usually in regard to the NAT type this 5G Gigacube throws out, which makes a number of games unhappy.

That doesn't sound bad actually. Not too far off from my wired internet.
But yeah, I often have issues with NAT on Series X, oddly enough. Didn't have that problem with the One X.

Fortunately I am not as heavily invested in online gaming, but Splatoon was a staple for me. I've not been able to play Splatoon 2 with this device. Or Mario Kart. Or Switch Sports.

Yeah, my Internet tops out at 40Mbps, but since pandemic time has been normally around 30Mbps...
To be honest, that is fine for normal use. Playing games and streaming 4K TV all works fine. Game downloads are a pain in the arse though, particularly since that drop in speed, but can just leave those running.
20-30 ping is normal for me, so I don't see you having any problem with your speeds.

10mbps if we are lucky here and it is fine for gaming most times, when it isn´t generally means either too much is going on all at once or other problems. Generally have pretty good ping though.
Anyway S3 pre ordered and ready, kids are going to be a nightmare tomorrow.

I like the spawning. Allowed me to suprise somebody who had rushed our spawn area.
Even better though. The campaign is great fun. In the first two levels alone it introduces you to pretty much every mechanics from the old campaigns and then the level variety really opens up. I've done a few stages without weapons. Ones than focus solely on specials or secondaries. Some levels are chill. Some are puzzle like. Some feel like speedruns.
It also helps that all the collectibles are now outside of the stages, so you don't have to explore every nook and cranny on a regular stage. It really adds to the flow.
So far its a big thumbs up from me. Also, that bow. Its awesome. A tri-slosher and sniper rolled into one, with explosive arrows. Its not gonna be easy to master.

Bought a copy for my son yesterday, watched him playing it yesterday and this morning. Crumbled and went and bought another copy and playing on my daughters lite.
Now shopping around for a 2nd hand lite. Anyone aware of any good deals on new ones?
OLED looks lovely but can’t justify it at the moment!!
