Got to that part in chapter 5 where we meet a certain character with a very iffy oz accent.
Yikes!
Other than her voice this is ramping up and still having a blast. Might be my favorite soundtrack in quite some time.
Would playing the first game be worth it? I have no nostalgia for it and this is my first xenoblade game. Bit worried the old gameplay will affect my enjoyment. Especially after loving three so much.

Having said that, the systems interlock so well in 3 that you may find sidequesting and other activities more frustrating. It's an amazing game though.

Don't get me wrong, I like the gameplay here and in 2 very much (the fact that after a month and a half of not playing I could remember everything about the systems so far attests to that) but there's something about 1's relative simplicity that's very appealing to me. And of course it's just a brilliant game in general, with possibly the best overall voice acting in the series IMO (with the caveat, of course, that I haven't played much of 3 yet and it's not as if the others had bad voice acting, just a smidge worse).

Is nobody else still playing XC3? After my giddy post not too far up this thread I'm still completely engrossed after 140 hours. I'm not usually into 100% completion and this is the longest I've played on non multiplayer game since BOTW. (much of the content in most games is simply not fun enough to warrant the investment) sure there's some side stuff here that isn't top tier but as I said before I just find the whole thing super compelling due to the fact that everything is rewarded in some way. Much of the side content genuinely adds to the story by fleshing out characters, providing history and showing glimpses into the world and the lives of it's inhabitants.
All hero's unlocked, all but two ascension quests complete over 100 unique monsters defeated, every gem level 7 or above most characters at level 10-20 on most classes. The only problem is I've yet to see the end as I'm.putting off the final dungeon in case I lose motivation after the credits role. I feel like seeing the ending after seeing all of the world building in the side quests will make it more worthwhile.
Did anyone else fall for this like I have? It's joined a small list of games in the last 5/6 years that I've genuinely loved (Hades, Stardew Valley, BOTW, Animal Crossing, Mario Odyssey and Rocket League) with the exception of Rocket League, I think I've just spotted the link between those games as I typed it. Apparently I love games where you check off big lists but only those where there's a compelling reason to do so (unlike an assassin's creed for example where it's fine but not great imo)

I'm still playing, I took a punt on this after getting sucked into the release hype. Completly in love with it? The music mainly. Making me want to hunt out other JRPGs as I've only played persona 4 and nier automata prior to this.

Still playing here as well, just taking my time with it. Ran into an area way above my level for a quest (it was safe enough for me to complete said quest but no further exploration allowed yet) and managed to catch a music reference to the Hidden Machina Village from 1 so that was interesting. There's references all over the place, really, the next place I'm going to is very Bionis Shoulder-esque in appearance for instance, but hearing them in the music as well is very nice! Apparently they're going to be adding stuff to it well into 2023 (the Dec '23 date might be a placeholder, of course, but their pace does seem to indicate additions at least up to spring if not summer, plus there's the possibility of a Torna style DLC beyond the season pass) so even if I was going to finish it soon I'd just be coming back to it later anyway. Might as well take it slow

I've pretty much stopped with 2, whilst being fairly deep into it (chapter 8 of 10). I don't know what happened, but ever since a character was taken hostage, I've just found it really difficult to proceed. I thought it was because I was relying on that character too much, but now they are back I can barely engage in fights with more than a couple of enemies.
I had taken to luring them out one at a time where possible, but that has become tedious after having to repeat a sequence 3 or 4 times. Named monsters were a complete no go.
I really don't know what I'm doing wrong. The only thing I can think of is my aux, which I haven't really looked at, but the bonuses those give either seem quite specific or not that useful.
I was enjoying it up until this point and the story was engaging enough (although I preferred the first game's plot). If I wasn't dying every 10 minutes and having to repeat large sections, I would finish it. Currently getting my Japanese gaming fix from Judgment.

Got a second playthrough on the go, but it's been on reasonably indefinite hold since FF14 patch 6.2 and other bits and bobs (Stellaris, Monkey Island, Cyberpunk was on a half price sale, etc).

Taking a break is obviously recommended if you've hit a wall. Unfortunately you haven't hit the point where you can get the last few materials to unlock the Unique Monster everyone farms for Core Crystals so all I can offer at this point is some generic advice/things you might have missed: • I'm guessing you've been using the "Bonus EXP" you get from exploration when resting at inns. If you haven't and it's been accumulating for a while it might be a nice level jump. • Not sure how many Core Crystals you've picked up from random fights/Uniques (and how many you've used) but if you haven't, it's a good time to spam them and hope for some Rare Blades to open up your options. As you may remember from the story, Rex at this point can use any Blade you have regardless of its actual Driver, so distribute your Crystals to other characters. • This next one is unfortunately a bit of a grind, but your Blades' Affinity charts can give pretty big combat boosts as you complete them, and doing so will also give you levels and drops on the way since you'll likely have to fight and explore a lot. Your Blades will also power up as you build Trust in general, so it's definitely something to do if you haven't really bothered up until now (and if nothing else it gives a sense of progression to the typical "fight stuff for hours" grind ). In terms of building Trust quickly, it's a matter of figuring out what type of Pouch Item (temporary combat buff items) each Blade likes and using them on its bonded Driver while the Blade is in the Driver's active three (unfortunately figuring that out is either trial and error or guide time). Obviously if you've done all or some of the above and are still hitting walls there's not much else I can offer besides classic grinding. Just thought I'd offer my two cents since it's a pity to leave it when you're this close to the end All of the above for Vandelay

I'm about one hour into the first game. Seems good so far, and I can already tell it's gonna be a massive time sink.

I'm still playing. I completed the main story at 150 hours as I'd been titting around exploring and doing side quests. I have all the current heroes, just have two of them left to unlock to level 20 and a couple of characters have yet to learn a couple of classes.
I'm quite content to keep playing as long as there's something do.

Still very far from finishing myself, but it seems I was correct in saying you'd want to be familiar with the previous games' stories

Nah, the story doesn't really require you to have played the previous two. There's little easter eggs if you have (including the thing I want to discuss), but they're mostly incidental.

I was mostly kidding, but it's nice being able to catch all the various visual and auditory references all the same

Okay, I feel like I'm missing something because I skimmed the thread to make sure and I only saw posts about you still being in Colony 9, so... Apologies for possibly being dense but I'll need a bit of explanation here 😅

Touché! But I did say the series has references to previous games, but aren't direct sequels. So when someone asked if they were fine just jumping into this one, I said they'd probably be fine. And it sounds like they are.

It's... kind of a direct sequel. Has its own story for sure, and doesn't require that you know the previous ones. But they are related, it's not something like Final Fantasy where the stories are completely separate.

Feeling like a god this evening after beating 4 of the 5 super bosses with my party at level 94. Does anyone know the best places to farm materials for better gems? I feel like I'll need them for the last super boss.
I felt a bit bad killing the lvl 100 bird thing, I watched it fly around in the distance for about 20 hours or more while in that area lol

Think I'm at the end of chapter 5 after 54 hours, I believe so after the bosses I've just fought. I had a cheeky Google of how many chapters there are as I assumed it would be the same as 2 for some reason but seems I'm much further through the game than I thought.
Going on holiday a week on Wednesday and planned to play it on the plane as some very long flights, wondering if I'll actually have beaten it by then at this rate!

Probably not tbh, still a fair chunk of game left even if you skip a lot of side quests. I started to rush through from around that point and still took me about 80 hours. Or was it longer?

Finished this, this weekend. What a game. I still can't stop playing it. I'm now rather pointlessly trying to max out each class with every character which is very unlike Me.
Took down all of the super bosses fairly easily, mopped up most of the unique monsters and maxed out the colony affinity.
Having seen the ending I can't help but feel the DLC might link all three games together....

I'd like for Rex to make a return. It seems like he would have been pretty busy after XC2.
