Re:characters, if you've already recruited Morag and Zeke, that's it. You don't get any more Drivers, it's all about the Blades from here on out. Re:Blades, 99% of the time the ones you need to worry about are those that have a big flashy cutscene that introduces them and that actually look like characters, rather than a generic grey skin/blue eyes NPC. There's a whole system around which Blades you get first, how many Cores it takes to actually hit a Rare Blade etc but hell if I can remember it off the top of my head. The random Blade system is a bit stupid anyway, because while you can eventually just brute force it by farming Cores till the cows come home (don't accidentally kill the Ardun you're feeding, by the way, trust me on this) and influence the element of the Blade you're going to get, there's pretty much no way to guarantee that you won't open, say, a pure tank Blade on Nia. And the items you can use to swap Blades between characters are rare and finite until New Game Plus... Just as a general hint, don't worry too much about giving Rare Blades to Rex. Prioritize other characters. As for your party, Tora will eventually start falling behind if you don't develop Poppi, and there's some good healer Blades for characters other than Nia. Eventually I just rolled with Rex, 4 and 5 (names redacted) and usually swapped control between Rex and 4, as needed. Thanks for all this. Surprised to hear that about characters, but useful to know. I've aimed for just maxing out the characters with all blades of their class (so, all healers on Nia, all fighters on Rex) but perhaps that isn't ideal. Have to experiment a bit to see if I can make drivers 4 and 5 more viable, as they don't seem to be at the mo, dispute their levels being quite a bit higher than my earlier characters.

The blade thing in XC2 is just gacha-lite, most of them will be common. You will want to increase your luck stat and use the best quality of core available to increase your chances. There's the booster system as well where you can tweak the chances of getting a certain affinity of blade, but that only really gets useful when you're looking for a certain one. I wouldn't get too worried anyway, you can do the game fine with just common blades, the rares are just kind of cool and fun extras, and good if you are into min maxing. Although obviously I had to grind the crap out of it to get them all, even though some are pretty bad.

Approaching 30 hours and fuck me, this game is incredible. I'm at the start of chapter 4, just can't stop doing side quests!

I think I'm just about done. I've finished most of the hero/ascension quests I'm interested in doing, and as a result am overleveled enough that I can leave the switch running through most story battles while I go make a cup of tea.
I don't really know how you fix that problem. Obviously they want people to do side content, but if you do too much it makes the game easy. I guess that's what the point of bonus xp is, maybe I got too many levels with it.

Good timing as I was going to ask about this. If I "save" my bonus XP does this keep the game on an even keel?

I would just bump your level up to whatever thing the story requires. But yeah, it depends how much challenge you want.
Anyway, it's pretty funny when I stomp story bosses in like 30 seconds with no damage taken, and the obligatory "Damn this guy is tough! How can we win?!" cutscenes play afterwards.

I wish I liked this game, but I can't get past the forced tutorials.
I honestly just want to replay X, and I would if my Wii U hadn't bricked while trying to download an offical update.

Still on chapter 3 and 14 hours in. It still hasn't really clicked with me... My eyes usually glaze over or I pick up my phone when a cutscene starts, or I just skip them altogether...
Combat is ok, but I've found myself reaching for the auto battle button more often than not, and have made heavy use of the auto run feature when not in combat (click the left stick while moving - don't think I saw a tutorial for that)
Kind of seems like if I'm leaning this heavily into not playing a game while I'm actually playing it, I might as well just sack it off completely...

Ok, all done. I was ready for it to be over by the end. The ending... was a bit confusing in the context of the whole series, but I'll save spoilers for when more people have finished it.

I finished at a smidge over 95. There's approximately 5 billion quests I didn't bother with, though, so it could easily go higher if you are a completionist. And there's a bit of post-game content too.

Fwiw the main story more or less held my attention up until the end. Though after a while I focused in on doing the Hero Quests over all the other ones, as they're the ones with the voice acting and interesting content.
But you could blitz through the main story much quicker than 95 hours. I did faff around a bit.

I’ve been mainly just unlocking the map, finding the question marks and doing whatever colony quests I can unearth, I think I’m at the end of chapter 3 more or less. I’ll just blast my way through after another week or so I reckon

The story did keep me hooked until the end, to the point where I might actualy consider pushing through the remainder of XC2 just to get a bit of extra context.

Without talking about it too much, I think they did a good job balancing between having clear connections to the other games in the series, while still making that previous experience optional in understanding wtf is going on.

That said, I did enjoy the blink-and-you'll-miss-it confirmation of a popular and slightly creepy XBC2 fan theory.

What's the code for spoilers on this forum? Seems like a good thing to know for when more people complete.

You put [ spoiler ] at the start and [ /spoiler ] at the end of the thing, without the spaces.

And [ s] is strikethrough (I remember someone having trouble with it and putting st in) ,i for italics, b for bold and presumably u for underlining, although I've never had to use that last one. Off topic, but might as well mention it

Oh this is good
Very very good, the music has to be some of the best I can remember in a game. Carries it along very nicely.
I'm fully expecting it to go bat shit mental at some point, bring it on.

Nier Automata Persona 4 Final fantasy vii
And that's about it

What are your platforms?
On Switch, the first Xenoblade is great. Tales of Vesperia. Dragon Quest XI S. Final Fantasy XII.
On PS/Xbox/PC, Tales of Arise was a good recent one.
Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon if you have access to an Xbox specifically (it's a 360 BC title).
