I'm happy other people enjoyed it. I'm still mulling over whether it's the best in the series for me, but either way I had a great time with the game. Grumbling about certain plot elements aside.

So far, as a standalone game I'd say it's almost perfect with just a few iffy parts (mostly about how chaotic the combat can get) that aren't nearly enough to sour the whole, at least for me. If you're a longtime fan though, as I said at some point, it smashes the 10/10 IMO. It's just so beautiful how they've weaved all the references and old areas together into the new world, it elevates the whole experience to a new level. I mean, when I reached the Great Sword's base and the melody to Sword Valley started playing about a minute in... Chills. Straight chills. As for the story, the whole "multiple lives" thing (if that is the part the grumbling is about MolarAm🔵) doesn't really diminish the stakes for the characters I don't think, at least the way it's been explained so far (earlyish chapter 5 here). You're not supposed to have any memories of your past life anyway (barring special circumstances like Eunie's triggering flashbacks), presumably the Ouroboros wouldn't retain their powers... It'd basically be a different person in the same body, the six would still "die". Plus, unless I missed some NPC chatter (because there were a few talking about the Queen being Meliabot 9000 after the fight, so maybe they know about the revival too), the majority of the people have no clue about it, and there's also interesting comparisons on how the characters handle their impending death (Ashera wanting to leave her mark on the world, Ethel and Cammuravi wanting to go out dueling in a blaze of glory, Juniper being mostly resigned to her dwindling fate until you reach Colony Tau and give her a different outlook and so on). |

Fair warning, it does have a bit of a slow start (mostly in terms of gameplay), but if you've played the others I doubt it'll put you off. Have fun!  |

One for the Pokemon fans: if they weren't intentionally referencing the red Gyarados in the Lake of Rage with that level 110(!) red serpent Unique in that enclosed area in Erythia Sea, it sure looks like they were! And one for the Final Fantasy fans... There's a facking Blue Mage in this game!? That's awesome  Oh, and of course they'd give you eye patches right before the sea area you traverse with a boat.

On that note, how close am I in terms of game time to the hours of cutscenes bit if I've just had my arse handed to me by not-Noah and been tossed in the Agnian Castle jail? I'd like to time it so that I can actually watch them in one go and tonight seems like a good night if I'm close enough |

Well then. And it's kinda nice to see that my N hunch might actually be correct, somehow... What I didn't expect was for an "M" to show up, too! I actually had a thought that if N was Noah, it would be a Noah that had lost Mio and gone off the deep end... Guess not! Guess I was technically right and wrong about this then, huh? Are you at the movie part of the game yet Well, save is saying chapter 6 now, so I think I'm either in the middle of it or just past it. Just had M and Mio finish the switcheroo on N (I kinda hope she'll keep the long hair -she hardly looked bad with shoulder-length, just... personal preference-, but I've got a feeling that she won't...) and now she wants to show Noah... something. Also, unrelated but having played Elden Ring, the Ranni voice comes through much clearer on M than Mio, which actually fits a lot |

Speaking of VAs, I'm very surprised that Noah's (and possibly Mio's) weren't at least nominated for "best performance" in the Game Awards. I mean, the chapter 4 and 5 (to start of 6) scenes alone!

So now that I've had a little time to, like, process it all... Can we talk about how much the scene in the Moebius theater between N!Noah and Z gives off Anakin/Palpatine vibes? The hero sees his loved one dying (knowledge provided, directly (N) or indirectly (possibly, at least, for Anakin), by the Big Bad™️), is lured to the dark side with promises of saving her, commits atrocities as ordered by the bad guys (slaughtering the original City/the younglings), said atrocities are witnessed by said loved one, who then decides N/Anakin is going down a path she can't follow... The scene even happens in a theater! N is freaking N-akin |

The one thing I really want to talk about is right at the end of the game. The implications for the cosmology of the whole series, and the reveal of the true, most alpha-level power in this universe. One picture that changes everything you thought you knew.
So look forward to that.

Approaching 70 hours at the start of chapter 6 and I don't want this to end. I got distracted by hero and side missions again. There's one that makes you travel to all the different regions that I initially thought would be a drag. But in fact it's brilliant (so far)! Finding new areas in the regions this way and even a secret area (which I didn't know that was a thing). There were two quests in the sea area that were also quite brilliant. The Monty Python one and the pirate , which I thought was a brilliant twist I think I only need to find one hero now to have the roster complete. |

Apropos of nothing, an absolutely brilliant bit of musical foreshadowing that I only noticed a while after the fact (to be fair I was still reeling from chapter 5 at the time... Spoilers for it, btw) When you fight against Consul M, you may notice that her two battle themes are the normal Moebius and Moebius Interlink battle themes, but with the off-seer's flute mixed in, and you may think "oh cool, it's a nod to how she may be related to Mio"...
Except then you immediately fight against N, who has no such flute playing even though he's also related to an off-seer, Noah. Then chapter 6 starts, and you realize M and Mio had swapped consciousnesses before you even fought M...
You never really fought against M, you fought against Mio pretending to be M. The flute is for Mio. Monolith Soft, you magnificent bastards |

Few hours into XC2 now. Seems to be a step up in terms of characters, Rex is instantly more likeable than Shulk who never had much of a personality, and Nia's Welsh accent is adorable. However, the combat mechanics are already confusing me. So I should be timing my arts to when my auto attacks hit, then I can use my Blade's special move at either level 1, 2 or 3, each presumably being more powerful than the last, right? Then chaining these moves with those of my party members? Annoyed I can't re-read tutorials like I could in the first game. But anyway, looks like there's a bit more meat to the combat in this one.
Oh, and does whatever I equip in my pouch get used automatically, or do I need to activate it somehow?

I love Xc2 but the in game explanation of the combat is garbage.
yes, called art cancelling. You can also cancel into specials, and other arts too (eventually).
Depends, sometimes spamming an l1 is better.
yes, but, there are blade, driver and blade + driver (fusion) combos, and also chain attacks. It gets very messy. I would probably go to youtube and have a look at a few combat guides.
It's auto used, and refreshed if you have anymore in your inv.

Started Chronicles 3 yesterday. Just got up to the meeting of the two sides and the oborous McGuffin and really enjoying it.
I was a bit apprehensive playing this as I only played XC1 during the summer (brought and loved XC2 at launch) and potentially being burnt out on it but the cutscenes are fantastic. Spectacular even . They just draw you in the world and characters. It seems to feel quite similar to the first in terms of set up and how the initial moments are laid out but yeah, really strong first impression. Interested to see where it goes. I prefer the 2nd to the first so yeah, looking forward to playing it.
It’s actually really nice to see Jrpgs in a healthy place. Played a lot in my teens but not so much over the next 20 years (yikes). But I seem to enjoying playing them again. Don’t have to think too much and just enjoy the story whilst lying in bed haha. FF seems like it’s getting back to some good stuff but yeah it’s good to have another high budget Jrpg being popular.
