Chips, sausage and beans tonight with a few slices of bread. Can't wait.
On the flip side I went to a fancy place on the weekend and had this amazing slow-roasted Moroccan lamb with horseradish mash and a red wine infused gravy - it was heaven.
Had some semifreddo for the first time too which was nearly as good as the main - it came with a mango crumb at the base which added a great bit of texture.

On a scale of width from worm to king kongs fingers, how girthy are these sausages?

Unfortunately they're standard Richmond sausages so not massive Had some amazing ones for breakfast in Dublin last week at the Lovinspoon cafe - would highly recommend!

Sausage, chips and beans is one of those meals that you have infrequently (maybe once or twice a year for me) but my god does it hit the spot.
Can thoroughly recommend Riverway sausages from Tesco. High pork content, nice and smooth (coarse cut can get fucked) and seriously well seasoned. A proper banger.

Then it's the Bristol chart Danno. I'm scared to Google this It is legit, even on the NHS site. Our human nutrition dept use it for assessing faecal samples from volunteer studies. You've seen worse on the old website, and i guess an ecosse katsu would score about a 6 or a 7.

I'm having the same for dinner tonight too, but two slices of toast not bread. I dunno sometimes that kind of comfort food really hits the spot.

Not sausages, but eggs chips and beans here. With dippy yolks for the chips of course.

Got me all nostalgic for those chip pan chips that you can't get since about 1996.
No beans though.

In my house we used to have “camp chips”, which were deep fried chips from a saucepan full of fat on the hob.
They were called “camp chips” because my mum did them most often when we were camping. In the tent. On a gas burner.
Horrifying.

So I've got some chicken thighs marinating in the fridge and I'm looking to do gyros tonight aka meat tower! This guy has got a great tool: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Br_XYP6eSYBut I haven't, so it's the half onion/skewer route for me. Slightly concerned about his 2hr cook time, so I'll be monitoring closely/foiling etc.. Fingers crossed!! Late to the party, how was it? Late to respond! It was good, needed his tool really. Started to topple on the onion. Ideally needed to be over a BBQ rotating.

I may have to invest in the tool and give it a whirl. Looks pretty fucking great.

Mrs Mercury's cauliflower cheese, baked spuds with corned beef hash and beans. Apocalypse meal that tastes as good and as easy to eat now as when we're huddled around a small fire slowly dying of radiation poisoning with our teeth falling out.

Well hell, forgot I was going to make a stew today. Going to take at least 3 hours, probably more. I have no other dinner and need it for lunch at work next week, so I suppose I'll have a sandwich, cook all evening and have dinner around 11pm.

Sounds good, all the best stews take hours.

Update: My big cast iron pot has inexplicably disappeared. I have no idea how. I live alone. My working theory is that I've neglected my duties to put porridge out for the house elf and the fay bastard has started stealing from me as punishment. Forgot to buy parsnips. They're not necessary, but it's very annoying. I have some root celery (is that even what it's called in English?), which will have to do.
Couldn't find the bay leaves at first either, but I had just missed them when unpacking my bag. Crisis averted.
All on the stove now, just have to wait an hour or so and put the carrots in, then boil some taters and make a salad around 22:30.
The stew I'm making is called "kalops" (though I'm putting a lot of extra stuff in). Had a look if there's an English version and apparently not, but the word is borrowed from English in the 18th century: "Collops", which apparently means slices of meat. Never heard it before, but on behalf of the people of Sweden I thank you for the puns "apokalops" and "totalkalops".

That sounds great, last one I did was similar with beef shin and some brown ale, the only proper brown ale I could find was Newquay Brown, proper melt in the mouth job where most of the ingredients kinda turns to a bit of a stodge but it costs so much to do a really good stew when you tot it all up and have to leave the oven on for hours.

Maybe €25 or so in total for this one and it should be dinner today plus at least four work lunches (add potatoes and greens, but that's cheap). Not the cheapest food, but not bad at all.
I had also forgotten to buy bread, so no sandwich for me. I'm resorting to walnuts and Finnish chocolate to stave off the starvation.

Oof, I guess you're not in GB, €25 sounds like a lot (or is it depending on your cost of living wherever you are?), a bit more than I had considered excessive! Though now when I think about it, beef + beer + other ingredients + oven time I must easily be up to about £15.
