before Musk, twitter was quite toxic in places but after Musk it was completely toxic in the other direction of alt right. Twitter needs to hurry up and die
I only had a twitter account to message companies if I had a problem (which worked) but deleted my account shortly after muskrat took over

It's good to see BlueSky uptake but let's be real, Twitter's not going anywhere and certainly not dying. It’s good to see Facebook uptake but let’s be real, FriendsReunited’s not going anywhere and certainly not dying. Twitter’s already dead and gone. X is going nowhere but down. Nah, it won’t fold. it’s more like Facebook in that, having lost its primary utility, it will just become a holding pen for thick, annoying bastards and the people trying to scam them. It will soldier on in one form or another because there are enough whinging arseholes, shouting into the void to prop them up. The biggest favour anyone did Facebook was eBay charging sellers fees as without the marketplace it would have been literally useless for years.

And now sellers fees have been dropped so it's back to being fucking useless unless you're the type of person who thinks liking a Help for Heroes post will get the immigrants out of the country.

I use Facebook to find out about bands touring etc. I’d have missed a fair few gigs without it.

My Facebook feed is full of air-fryer recipes and chess puzzles for some reason. I don't own an air-fryer or play chess. Perhaps I should.

The woman in a kitchen with massive tits one properly cracked me up just now. Opened it to take a closer look at her hand (honest!) and then copped the knees that the thumbnail cropped off.

Just started 'using' bluesky in earnest and its like the first day of term. Pretty much every post is 'this is my first time here', like the service has just come online. That's quite an exodus.

Fesshole, Anon Opin, Cold War Steve, Cats Of Yore, Humanists UK, and Frasier D&D are the only Bluesky accounts I'm currently following. Was also following Neil Gaiman as he was quite active on there, but has stopped posting a while back because of his legal issues.

Moved across fully morning of US election results - felt a bit empty but the in the past 3 days it's really taken off with most accounts I want now over and no blue tick twats/BTC boyz/racists anywhere to be seen (i know they are there, but not in any comments). Does feel like this could stay the course.

If nothing else it's good to have a social network where the CEO isn't trying to make himself the main character

Question is, is Bluesky nice now because all the twats haven't moved across yet, or because of some inherent rules / design?
I remember Threads talking about being tough on unwanted content, but isn't Bluesky by the OG Twitter guy, who used to be almost as much of a free-speech-absolutist as Musk? Though he did at least try to take a middle ground back when he was running Twitter. When forced to.

No, Dorsey hasn't been involved for a long time apparently.

There's a lot of controls that the users have on bkuesky, also engagement doesn't drive the algorithms which is a massive change.

Yeah, Dorsey left Bluesky in April 2024, largely because of there being moderation on the site. He's back to loving twitter because of free speech.

Assuming the count page is correct Bluesky is now putting on about 10 users a second which is about 5 times faster than yesterday so there's a pretty big uptick.

It is much easier for a user to control what they see. I expect this will also lead to companies taking longer to transition over, as I assume using it for promotion is going to be harder.

If youre seeing stuff on your feed that you don't want to see it's because someone you follow is pushing that out to you. So you can make the choice to mute or unfollow basically.

Question is, is Bluesky nice now because all the twats haven't moved across yet, or because of some inherent rules / design? Partly, but it's also that Bluesky doesn't have an algorithm, so the site isn't actively designed to create outrage. Even if they were there, it wouldn't be agressively pushing far right shit at you.
Dorsey on the other hand thinks it's important that instead of having a site that does what its users want it to do and just shows them things they want to see, that you should instead have a website that deliberately forces content you don't want to see at you and had a big pissbaby fit about it and left.

Yeah see, that was when I still liked Facebook. It was just my friends' activity. Not people selling stuff, or influencers.

All I need now is for the EIHL and Cardiff Devils to move their accounts over and I can delete that previous mess forever.
