Worth remembering that there are trans/gender-diverse people on here, IIRC. Like who? There aren't any women on here (barely), or men who identify as women or even any uphill gardeners (now Mr Tom has gone), unless you count Sport. We're about as diverse as an episode of Downton Abbey. If we tried painting a rainbow flag, we'd do it in like one colour. Starting a debate to gatekeep and then realising you don't have any diversity to represent or gatekeep 😂🤦 Just give it a rest, eh?

It's interesting that a lot of guys on here are getting hot under the collar about this subject, when I don't see the same level of anger for disabled people who have been treated as second class citizens for a lot longer. You only have to look at the recent airport staff shortages when disabled people are being left on planes. Let's get a thread going. Get some anger out middle aged men!

There definitely is at least one openly trans person here, and who knows how many more who haven’t chosen declare themselves as such.

Unless I missed it, nobody is drawing up rules to exclude disabled people from everyday life or allowing quack doctors to try and convince them they are fully abled.

With any situation I think you need to weigh up the degree to which group is impacted and try and make the most appropriate and obtainable response.
Women's sports have been ridiculed, underfunded and dismissed for decades. Now there is some parity (or close to it) in some sports such as tennis, golf and athletics.
Being dismissive of sports impact socially and culturally across the planet for hundreds of years is naive. There's plenty of things that don't interest me but I accept to others they are the most important thing in their life.
Is the number of Trans athletes a tiny proportion of those competing? Of course but to simply say it's only a couple of records or only 1 or 2 events isn't a solution. It's dismissive.
This is the same audience who descend into an apoplectic rage if a prem team overspends or breaks the rules on transfer budgets. There are rules in sports, weight classes, age groups, etc to try and make the specific event as fair as possible. Pretending those are not important isn't helpful to anyone.

I've not followed the subject closely as I have no money in this fight. But I've definitely heard on the news about trans athletes winning cycling, swimming, fighting and weightlifting events. I'm pretty sure I heard that one trans cage fighter caved a woman's skull in in two minutes or something. Is none of this true then?

As for your homophobic comment, it was the jokey norm 20-odd years ago but civilised society has moved on and it's offensive.

I'm pretty sure I heard that one trans cage fighter caved a woman's skull in in two minutes or something. Is none of this true then? Yes, some trans women have won some events. But the margins of victory have not been anomalies. No trans athlete has been absolutely dominating. The swimmer you mentioned also competed in other events and finished down in the pack, not even on the podium. And the event she did win wasn't record breaking. If she competes in the Men's "open" event as proposed, her times would be last place and non-competetive. It's worth mentioning her times in the men's events, pre-transition, were competitive. Her performance has dropped since transitioning. If trans athletes were turning up and breaking records consistently and winning every event by a huge margin, I'd think maybe that is an issue but that's simply not what is happening.

International Rugby League now banning trans women from competing in the Womens tournament. All sporting bodies falling in line with this now

I can understand being a little more cautious with contact sports like rugby. Obviously there is more of worry about injury in those sports.
For sports like swimming though, it seems churlish unless you have actual evidence to back up the claims that it is going to cause a problem. The evidence so far, from what I've seen, seems to suggest it won't.

Her performance has dropped since transitioning. According to the video Razz posted, trans women lose about 5% of muscle after transitioning so you'd expect some loss of performance. Trans males on the other hand gain 15% so there's a big discrepancy in the effects. There's about a 10% performance gap between men and women swimming at the same level so you're not going to get someone going from zero to dominating by transitioning but it could be the difference between being good and great.
