Donington '88 was a cracking line up; Helloween, GnR, Megadeth, David Lee Roth, Kiss, Iron Maiden
Nobody really knew who GnR were, hence they were only 2nd on the bill. Appetite had only just come out and there was a lot of buzz about them. 2 people were killed in the crush when they came on. David Lee Roth had Steve Vai on guitar at the time, and it was the period when Kiss weren't wearing makeup (Crazy Nights, etc.)
Maiden had the giant Eddie with no legs floating on the stage, it was epic

The tracks from Powerslave are the highlights on Live After Death as well. Rime is phenomenal. Shit yes. I went out and bought Live After Death as soon as I'd bought Powerslave. Powerslave was actually the first album I bought on vinyl a few years back when I got my record player as well. It's my fav Derek Riggs artwork. It's just insane. My dad who is 72 and only recently decided he loves Maiden and Metallica got bought the album from me for his birthday last month as well. Bloody well love it so I do.
Trying to think if they've played PS or RotAM live in the times I've seen them yet. Seen them three times and dont' think so. Seeing them again next month but doubt they'll play either which is a bit poo.
Seeing them again next month in Glasgow at the Hydro by any chance? ME TOO!!!

As I understand it this is their 'Powerslave' tour is it not?
No - Somewhere in Time is the album. Carry on.

It looks like it's cribbing more from Somewhere in Time and Senjutsu, so I wasn't holding out much hope for Powerslave stuff. Would be nice though. We got Aces High to open up the last time I saw them complete with replica Spitfire coming down off the ceiling. Actual Powerslave or Rime would be the bollocks though.

I generally don't know the songs either. Maybe I came to Maiden in a funny way through older brothers and then buying Fear of The Dark as my first cassette.

Somewhere in time is a great Maiden album. As is Piece of Mind.

First singles I recall buying were Ghost Town by the Specials and Shaky's Green Door. Those were complex times.

It should be compulsory that everyone see Maiden live at least once. I took my boy to see them for their first time at a gig because of this. Start them out with props/pyro and loud tunes.

We've since seen the Foals (his choice) a couple of times. Now he won't be wanting to go to gigs with me any more and will head off with his mates instead.

I still have my limited edition (there were 2000 made) of Lullaby by the Cure on 7" CLEAR vinyl with a snazzy design on the front.
I'll sell that for a cool million one day.

quadfather I didn't actually look at the price. Discogs Marketplace is not the be-all and end-all of rare records, fwiw! I just thought it was a cool piece of vinyl.

Yeah, and I've miraculously kept it in mint condition too! I've only played it 2-3 times in over 30 odd years! I've just had to go and get it out and have a look at it, for the nostalgia feels now

Pah, the desks in my junior school still had holes for ink pots in the top right of them. Couple that with the groove up there for laying pens in, building marble madness courses inside the desk with rulers, jotters, a rubik’s snake and packets of Pacers was the done thing back in my day Today I Learned: Khani is literally me.

I'm not _that old_ (honest) and at lot of our desks in primary school had holes for ink pots, with wee grooves n that.

We had them at a school I briefly attended in Gosport when I was in the first year of Junior school, however old that is. I was reading a lot of Just William, Blyton, Narnia and such at the time so I was pretty happy I had an old timey desk and a wooden chair instead of the plastic nastiness everywhere else.
Speaking of the plastic nasties (those ones with the oval hole in the lower back). One I was sitting on during PE had a split in it, which closed as I stood up, bringing the chair up hanging off of my leg until it ripped off quite a lot of skin around the tendon behind my knee. That might be the most I ever bled at once and to add insult to injury my Ma beat me for ruining my shorts and trainers.

Had teachers who would often grumble that the failings of us young ones might be down to the fact we didn’t write on slates like they used to My school’s original building, the Ald Hoose, had granite stairs so worn by centuries of boys going up and down them thag you could easy break your neck from slipping on the smoothed grooves in the middle of each one. You’d have then got 500 lines for not showing up to PE in the afternoon

My bro had a Ziggy Stardust picture disk that I played to oblivion but ruined, obviously. I assume it wasn't as limited edition as that so clearly haven't cost him a cool million...
