I suddenly feel young. My first album was (regrettably) Limp Bizkit, shortly followed by Linkin Park. I then went back and discovered Nirvana (which was classic rock by this point) and my taste in music was confirmed.
I had the "Daddy what are DVDs" question not long ago. And I hadn't realised it but the only physical media now in regular use in our house are my games, so I explained it like "movies and music used to come on discs like my games".
More than the going to the shops to buy them thing, which I thought would blow their minds, they were more horrified that each disc was literally one film, or one album, and if you wanted to watch another one you had to go and buy another disc.

Good geefe, you're a babby! Mine was Bananarama.
Weirdly, we have quite a few movie dvds as for a while it was the only way to get English movies here. But other than a handful of physical games (mainly for the Wii) my kids have only really experienced games as downloads (steam, switch, epic, etc..)

Now that I think about it, I never really amassed a huge music collection because I came of age during the P2P file sharing era which of course segued into iTunes and now cloud services. CDs were never strange or unusual to me obviously, but they had definitely already started to lose relevance by the time I had my own money. I think I probably only owned about 10-15 CDs.

My brothers’ Music collection was Elton John, Phil Collins and Eric Clapton.
I didn’t steal any of their stuff.

I happened to mention I had typewriter lessons in 8th grade to a 20-something-year-old. She didn't believe me. "But there were computers in the 80s!". Gee thanks, I was in 8th grade in the mid 90s.

What age is 8th grade? I get confused. 14 here in Sweden. I was just at the point where it switched over, so we had typing lessons on typewriters in 8th grade and were the first to have mandatory computer lessons in 9th grade.

My form tutor in secondary school was also a typing teacher and gave us all lessons on real typewriters. Taught me enough to now be able to touch type about 3x faster than anyone I work with. Gave me strong fingers too.

I learned to type on a typewriter, too. This reminds me of a former IT colleague who once publicly claimed his typing was so good, he could comfortably out-type the company administrator/secretary, who was a certified 130 wpm typist. They had a little company contest, with bets for charity and everything. She absolutely destroyed him. He was quick, but his sheet was littered with errors and unreadable stuff. Her's was faultless and she finished in about 2/3s time he did. He could probably have won a few games of tennis against Serena Williams, too, thinking about it.

The first album I actually bought for myself was Dire Straits: Brothers In Arms.
I still love it.
Not sure quite what that says about me, to be honest.

Pah, the desks in my junior school still had holes for ink pots in the top right of them. Couple that with the groove up there for laying pens in, building marble madness courses inside the desk with rulers, jotters, a rubik’s snake and packets of Pacers was the done thing back in my day

Had a bunch of music given to me at various stages as a nipper, but the first albums I bought with my own (paper round) money were:
Iron Maiden - Powerslave Def Leppard - Pyromania Van Halen - 5150.
All still absolute bangers in fairness.
Honestly can't remember the first single I bought, think it might have been Meat Loaf but buggered if I can remember what.

Not sure if it's due to getting old as such, but my life is pretty much delineated by college and uni.
The year 2000 is always "20 years ago". The year 2000? About 20 years ago. 1993? 20 years ago. 1989? 20 years ago.
Anything post uni, 2005, feels like "a few years ago" and still recent. 2020? A few years ago. 2015? A few years ago. 2010? A few years ago.
It's like there's been no real sense of time progressing since I left uni.

I also bought powerslave on casette for my walkman for doing the paper round. Flying about on my racer (with a saddle like a razorblade), zipping about delivering papers to the sounds of aces high and Rime of the ancient mariner. The paper delivery job was possibly more fun that what I do now in some ways!

First tape was Shaky, Shakin' Stevens which I got for xmas along with one of those tape decks with a built in single speaker and a handle for carrying around the house.
First vinyl purchase was a few years later - Elvis Double Dynamite vol2
I don't listen to Shaky anymore accept at xmas time, but Elvis is still a favourite and always will be.

I definitely have some core memories of the first time I listened to Powerslave with headphones on while admiring the cover and following along with the lyrics. I must've been young enough that I didn't even understand all the English.
My mum had a pretty big record collection and the record player in our house was sacred and I wasn't allowed to touch it under any circumstance when I was little. The first time I got to put a record on all by myself was a real rite of passage.

I went out and bought Live After Death as soon as I'd bought Powerslave. Powerslave was actually the first album I bought on vinyl a few years back when I got my record player as well. It's my fav Derek Riggs artwork. It's just insane. My dad who is 72 and only recently decided he loves Maiden and Metallica got bought the album from me for his birthday last month as well. Bloody well love it so I do.
Trying to think if they've played PS or RotAM live in the times I've seen them yet. Seen them three times and dont' think so. Seeing them again next month but doubt they'll play either which is a bit poo.

Guns 'n Roses were second on, after Helloween
