Started Nioh 2 again. The fucking snake. This is where I got stuck last time. This feels familiar... Remember that blocks are actually strong in Nioh, remember your items (a few panic firebombs to the face were the only reason I got past it on my winning attempt) and use lightning if you can, the debuff will slow it down. Oh, and if you kick its ass, you'll probably go on to beat the game too, so be prepared for that

Pretty exhilarating as I literally scraped through on 1% health having blown my transform at the end; was hoping that would finish him off…but had to squeeze in a couple more hits after. Rode my luck, but what you said about blocks, using the lightning talisman and throwing stuff made the difference. Cheers! Now into new territory.

Nice one, ned! JuniorFE is pretty much the Yoda of Team Ninja games - follow his advice, and you'll be fine.

One of the coolest things about Nioh is mixing up magic/ninjutsu and normal attacks. With two weapons and three stances you really are incredibly flexible.

ned Woo! There's few roadblocks like it after, the game keeps opening up bit by bit. I think you'll enjoy it! Ulythium Glol I dunno if I'd go that far, my advice works well enough for the first couple runs through the game but I'm nowhere near the minmaxing masters that romp through the Depths for fun... I think Nioh is in that sweet spot for me where it needs some perseverance and patience to get past some of the bullshit, but has so many things to try and easily mix together as uiruki said that it's easy for me to find something that works and pass on the knowledge to (hopefully) help others out too

Just got the next boss down. The first proper human boss with elephant.
Was wrecking me at first but when I started being more aggressive it felt easier.
I always feel like I’m cheating if I use the yokai shift. Absurd as it’s part of the game design.
Anyway fully into this now! Hopefully will see it through to the end.
I do like how you can get shredded in seconds if you take your eye off the ball. Even on normal enemies. Keeps you on your toes and the tension high.

Yeah, the game is designed for you to play fast and aggressive. Knowing your moves, their range and speed mean that when you’re really on the ball you feel borderline unstoppable.

ned as a general tip (that you might already know/have read in the thread) try to dabble in some Onmyo magic even if you're not focusing on it for your build. Being able to do things like buff your defense, attack and resistance to elements, reliably target enemy elemental weaknesses and of course the always useful Sloth (of course), Divination (for exploration) and Extraction (especially when paired with "On Amrita Absorption" effects) will serve you well no matter what. Not to mention it's easier than you think to gain skill points in Onmyo Magic, having a Divination talisman active (which you should be doing anyway) counts as a buff for the purposes of proficiency acquisition, and the buff lasts a long time. So pop that, beat up enemies as normal and you'll train up your magic just by playing the game

As an example build for Extraction that served me wonderfully for all of my time through Nioh 2 (in Nioh 1 there weren't as many such buffs, but that one had Living Weapon+Extraction and that was more than enough): (spoilered in case you'd rather not look at it yet) The Kasha Soul Core buffs your movement speed on Amrita Absorption. The Shuten Doji Soul Core buffs your defense on Amrita Absorption. The Tengen Kujaku Guardian Spirit gives a stance-dependent buff on Amrita Absorption: an attack boost in high stance, a defense boost in mid stance (which doesn't stack with Shuten Doji's but it's there as an option) and a ki recovery buff in low stance. It also has a permanent Divination Talisman effect. Finally, chest armour pieces can roll with Lifegain on Amrita Absorption as a passive (in Nioh 1 the Fuse-Ushi Spirit has that innately and it was crazy), which heals pretty crazy amounts especially with rapidly-hitting weapons. All of the above can be acquired relatively early in the game (and the latest one, the Shuten Doji Soul Core, can be covered by the Tengen Kujaku buff), which means that by mid-late game you could be running around with 100% uptime on multiple buffs and constantly healing, both by killing normal enemies and during bosses, all thanks to the humble Extraction Talisman

Cheers JuniorFE!
I’ve got a couple of points in the magic skills but tend to hoard and not use consumables, like i do in souls games. But they seem really useful here, so will be spend some time having a look in more detail.
Any advantage you can get is going to be worthwhile it seems!
