Nah, it’s the best way to get burst damage. The thing you absolutely have to learn is the counter. If something flashes red, it’s doing a move that can be countered and countering absolutely smashes their ki. You’ll notice every time you ki break, the meter goes down so it’s easier to do it again.

I found the phantom had the best counter but ymmv

You didn't mention if you noticed it but water (appropriately) wrecks its shit. If you have any way of applying it yourself it should help break its Ki again. Alternatively, you could try to

Oh, a bit late now, but one thing it doesn’t tell you is that you get skill points from just using items. If you use talismans or bomb consumables, for example, on the reg, you get magic and ninja points just for using them which you can invest in proper spells and ninja skills. Magic (with a smattering of ninjitsu) is pretty much a core part of any build. There’s no such thing as pure melee, really, because pretty much every good build is propped up with onmyo.

A couple of spells would help you out enormously here.

Also, get a bit of onmyo going on and get you some sloth talismans. Slow the fucker down. Don't think you've fought any flying bolts yet but their soul core will give you a slow yokai attack.

Oh, get him wet but then put a lightning buff on your weapon. Extra damage on top of water and when his lightning meter fills he'll slow as well.

Slow the prick down.

Thats pretty much my go to Nioh 2 advice anyway. But I am an onmyo build.

So I've jumped back into Nioh 2 for a spell, and it's quite obvious I'd forgotten everything. Soon all kicked back in though. Forgot how lovely this looked and ran on PS5.

Yeah, and it never gets old how monsters just explode into a shower of loot. Everything about Nioh is just so *satisfying*.

Let's hope Wo Long is a similar kind of game.

Theres a few QoL settings that help with loot manaagement after a loot shower. When you start hitting green (and certainly orange) gear, everything else becomes useless so you can turn it off in the pickup settings.

It does fuck with your packrat tendencies but after a point lower tiers dont even become worth selling or breaking down.

Woo, finally beat Enenra. Must have been comfortably over 100 attempts. Lucky it was a fun fight and a really short run to it.

I can, and I think I have. Got fed up in the next main mission after Enenra, the one where you meet the serpent women. Just doesn't feel very rewarding, unless you find 16,000 almost identical swords rewarding. Fired up Dark Souls III instead, sorry!
