Days 20 and 21 done. 9 and 7k respectively. Fuck me. Half of the 9 yesterday was pure uphill. My poor legs.

Was the uphill a continuous thing or was it up and down a lot?
My favourite route around here has a lot of short steep climbs with long gradual downhills in between which is a nice balance compared to running up an actual hill

@ wunty
Not sure. Had it bad a couple of years back, so eased to about 5k, & more cycling.
It seemed fine, so i have built back to 7, then up to about 10.
Monday out of nowhere it flared up. I had a tiny stone in my shoe, so hope that caused it and it will settle down soon, but i guess it is gym and cycling for a few weeks, then try a 5k.
It's so frustrating. I had this on&iff shit for about 10yrs with my itb too, which, touch wood, seems to have finally settled down.

Have you tried with metatarsal pads in your shoes I am wondering about trying some weird orthotic shoe insert/insole. I had a gel pad you put around a toe & it cushions the area, but it helps, but feels a bit odd.

A small pad just behind the joints, sort of on the front of the āpalmā area can help, it spreads the pressure along the met bones so itās not just the knuckle end hammering into the ground every step. They take a bit of getting used to, and some trial and error with placement, thickness and density of pad is inevitable. Iāve got tons of the bloody things here

That's kind of what this. It has a 'hook' bit that the middle toe goes through and a cushioned pad bit that sits under the base of tge toes around the 'palm' area- ball of the foot isn't it?

Yeah, the concept is the same just the application is different. One that wraps around your foot adds a lot of bulk and could make your shoes tighter, could restrict your normal movement and your stuck with whatever position it falls in. Iāve only ever used the loose pads where you can tweak the position to suit, Iām not a podiatrist or anything but 90% of the people selling orthotics are absolute quacks of the highest order so itās a real minefield

So I had been working towards doing the Plymouth Half in October (delayed since April 2020), and about the middle of September had done a 9 miler which was OKish and my race number was delivered but I didn't bother to open it for a few weeks seeing as there's nothing exciting to read, usually, but then in the last week of August I opened it and it turns out I got my dates wrong and it was today, a month earlier than I thought. So I did a 12 mile last Monday which wasn't fun and walked a few times so just had to suck it up today, think I actually walked very briefly on 7 occasions which is a record for me and came in at 2.25 so I'll settle for that. Not much fun.

Thanks, it was extremely hard dragging myself out of bed at 6am this morning, glad I did but suspect this will be the last for a while at least. I arrived home to Mrs Mercury and our neighbour/kids doing crafts/chatting etc, after I berated myself for being so slow compared to previous HM's (I was never fast) Mrs Mercury commented 'but you were so thin then' goddamn food I hate you!

Ha ha that's erm, nice and supportive. You know what? Your time doesn't matter. Big kudos to you for getting out there and doing it. Whatever time you got, it's no mean feat doing a half. Every persoin that finishes something like that, anyone that tries something like that, putting themselves out their comfort zone and pushing themselves. It's all good. I think that no matter what event it is. You could go "nah" and put a boxset on netflix, but no, you're out giving it a bloody shot. And that's something.

Inspired by the good people of this thread Iāve decided to get back out there and run 5k every day this month Only 5 days but itās been ok so far. Very slow as Iāve not run regularly for a while, first one was 27 minutes and todayās was 26 so at least Iāve knocked a minute off Hopefully Iāll shed a few pounds and get quicker by the month end

retro74 good man, join us! 3 weeks in and I'm finding it alright. Although I'm on the malt again tonight so I'm definitely making it harder for myself. It's funny, I'm in such a routine now I'm already finding the thought of NOT running every day a bit odd.

Days 22 and 23 have been done. 23 was the hardest yet, not helped by the heat. Must have sweated about 5 pints in half an hour.

I did my sixth 5k yesterday so 20% of the way through my 30 in a row
Probably one of the tougher ones as it was hot and Monday is an intense work day so Iām always mentally shattered at the end of it

Aye. One of the runs I did in the middle of the afternoon in the sweltering heat, not making that mistake again. Doing them just after 6.30 in the evening now, last night was closer to 7.30 as I was knackered

Looks like my current streak is ending after day 25. One kilometre in I felt a big twinge in my lower back and stupidly continued the run. Now it's completely seized up and I'm laying on the sofa pretty much unable to move. Got some ice on it but doubt I'll be ready for another 5k tomorrow. Karma for making the baldness thread?

Nanocrystal Ah shit man that's rough. Best to just rest up there's no point in risking further injury by carrying on. You've done this before in all fairness, you've nothing to prove! I'm still hanging in. Quite tough now but, again, that could be the heat (even hotter today!). That's my day 24 done. I've been alternating between a 5 and 7k route for the past week or so with the odd exception so will probably just carry through this til the end.

Last run before my toe operation this morning completely underestimated the heat.
12k in 1hr 13 in 26c and direct sunlight for at least two thirds of the route.
Just had my operation and theyāre advising 8 weeks off if I want it to heal fully in minimal time.

Rest up now! You won't lose too much fitness although it may seem like it.
