I'll see how it goes, but in comparison this was about the point I got bored of and gave up on FF7 Remake, so this is holding my attention better then that.

I personally never got that FFXVI combat is one note or boring. Half the fun was getting a new Eikon and playing around with the abilities, see what works well with other ones and get a nice flow between them and style on your enemies. And it's just a very good feeling combat system, precision dodges feel nice, you get hyped up when you activate limit break, the noise of doing consecutive parries with Titan, the big CLASH and slowdown effect from doing the natural parry. It never got boring for me. It's not as difficult as some DMC fights could be but I did enjoy the great deal of player expression you can have. Plus it is being backed up by those visuals and that music.
Playing through again on FF difficulty and I wish they had this option from the beginning, maybe have Ultimaniac as the unlockable one. It is brutal on that difficulty.

I find "actual" action games like DMC or Bayonetta to much for me these days, I just end up losing track of stuff and it's too fast paced.
I really like the combo system, having the spells between melee hits as it actively discourages button mashing.

Over 30 hours in now, still very much loving it. The characters are pretty good, I think, and I like the mix of having the political faction and wars in the background and pseudo-medieval setting, which feels a bit Game of Thrones-lite, with the more nuts anime-inflected sections and Final Fantasy tropes.
Still too early to say exactly where it'll land when it's all over, but currently I'd say it's the FF game I've enjoyed most since 10 (well, single player anyway).
