OK I played some more and only stopped because it's nearly 1am and something called work looms in the morning.
I really don't get how some people like SkillUp just couldn't seem to find a positive thing to say about the game. He is so wide of the mark. I think sometimes people get so hooked up on the little things, they forget how to actually have fun.
3.5hrs in and so far it's a contender for my game of the year. Still early days though, so it could all go to shit still

They've already had to come down from their predictions that the game will fail. Watch it be even more so now that it's knocked Call of Duty off the #1 spot on Steam. The biggest grifter peddled a supposed NDA claiming its a huge expose that EA was telling reviewers and content creators not to mention the progressive things in a negative light. But the document is laughably written and so full of spelling mistakes that it can't possibly be real. And turns out it isn't. Making shit up to keep the outrage train going.
It's thoroughly poisoned the well on Twitter and YouTube now. If you type in Dragon Age reviews on YouTube the most popular results are grifters peddling this shit. This is happening to every major game now and feels like this year has been the worst. Stellar Blade censorship, Concord, Ghost of Yotei, Silent Hill 2. It's the grifters and the ones pointing and laughing while also simultaneously promoting out their tweets for their own benefit, all of it revolved around farming engagement bait. Nobody's talking about games for content anymore, unless it's here.

Agree with everything you said. I had struggled to find genuine reviews of the game amongst a plethora of videos shitting on the game made by people who clearly have an agenda. I have blocked so many of the channels now by telling youtube not to recommend them, but I am considering just dumping youtube and social media in general. It's really not healthy.
Really hope the game does well. You can clearly see how much care the devs put into this.

Am I weird in that (from a cursory glance at videos) it kinda reminds me of Jade Empire?

I am really enjoying it so far, despite the lip-syncing being abysmal and Ali Hillis as Harding slipping into her Liara T'soni voice with increasing frequency.
In terms of environment design and foliage density, it's not doing anything so far that Inquisition didn't do when that was maxed out, just with higher resolution, more anti-aliasing and ray-tracing. I keep hearing little music cues and sound effects from previous games and it makes me smile.
Oh, the things I saw in the Music Room of the Lighthouse. The fragments of Solas' destroyed orb, a chair with the Inquisition logo, an Astrarium, and most importantly, a shitload of wheels of cheese.

Yeah, also can’t seem to see any PC keys from the usual places.
That being said, I’m being swayed to just buying the standard edition for full whack off Steam. Reports that it’s actually incredibly well optimised at launch, with no predatory mtx shite or cosmestic shop, etc., bodes well. Feeling more like I want to vote positively with my wallet on this one.
The character creator does look excellent. And given that I tend to struggle these days with genuine open world games retaining my interest, I think the semi-open style they’ve went for here may be more to my liking.
Would almost certainly go dual-wielding Rogue, initially. But that Reaper specialisation in the warrrior class did look pretty cool too.

It feels very much like Mass Effect so far to me. Not much exploration thus far and you are mainly following a linear path. I don't say that as a negative, I prefer more focused games like this which don't waste your time traversing a vast map with nothing to see or do.
I also love the power wheel which is taken straight out of Mass Effect.
The only negative so far is that the game is TOO EASY. I wanted a challenge so I selected the hard mode (1 setting up from the starting difficulty) and it has still be plain sailing. The bosses telegraph their moves in advance and its quite easy to dodge and parry them.
I would recommend for anyone (unless they are really crap at games) to up the difficulty from the default.

Fuck that, frankly. Every enemy has multiple health bars (once you factor in resistances and shields) and fights are really slow. It's not hard, no (though I have found a boss that has killed me twice so far, which I think is the first 2 deaths I've had in the 16-ish hours I've played), it just takes ages. Again, shields, so damaging him is super slow.

I think custom difficulty might be the best solution.
I went from no interest, to getting caught up in the controversy, to buying it (it's payday). I'm not sure that's how it's supposed to work, but I wanted something for my Deck.
Character creation is really good, but having intended to go mage all along, my final character design clearly looked better as a warrior. Sword and board it is.
Looks really nice on Deck @ 30-40fps, albeit very soft. Good start, might try streaming it from my desktop.

Maybe you could bump up the difficulty but drop their health?

Do you have to adapt your strategy somewhat, like in Mass Effect when enemies could have barriers or armor (or both on harder difficulties).?
I don't mind longer fights as long as they are enjoyable. Playing Tales of Arise and the fights could drag on a bit, but they were always fun to me, so hopefully Veilguard battles will keep my interest.

I do think this is one of the (potential) issues when developers try to merge hack and slash combat with RPG enemies - encounters end up taking far longer than they would in a straight-up action game, which can lead to a sense of fatigue.

The toxicity surrounding this game from incel dipshits has infested the Let's Play scene as well - the first two parts of FightinCowboy's playthrough each have a dislike ratio of around 33%, which is much higher than you'd usually expect to see.

It's embarassing.
I wasn't going to buy the game but with all these idiots moaning I'm slightly tempted to.

I was looking on the steam page yesterday before their reviews went live, but you can look at 'curators' who have reviewed the game. There is a guy on there called 'Shitlisting Service' who has a 'review' for Borderlands 4, which is a good trick. It's literally 'might have this, probably does that, not recommended'. It's psychotic.

The people angry about this stuff are the same who think the sexual abuse victim in Silent Hill 2 is too ugly, complain that Stellar Blades outfits don't go far enough, actively campaigning for Subnautica 2 to fail for just the existance of black protaganists (even tho the first games protaganists were also black) and has Football Manager in their list of games to avoid for being too woke. Complain about games being too political while having Solid Snake as their avatar. What's funny to me is that their list of woke games is intended as a means to avoid anything they might not like...almost as if it's like these things act as trigger warnings and the list of non woke games is almost acting as a safe space...but then they hate that so, couldn't possibly be that hypocritical...

Just don't tell them the Deus Ex series central feature is gender affirming care. They might have a stroke.

I saw a SEXY YouTuber in a Lara Croft outfit. Scrolled to the comments. Someone gave her $200. For WHAT. She’s not going to have sex with you.

It's so tiring, this shit constantly fills the threads for new games, can it just go all in one thread.
We know there are loads of incel twats in gaming and we just keep giving them oxygen.
It would be nice to go in a game thread and read about people's experience with it rather than some cunt that's offended as a female character had a square jaw.

It does make sense to keep the game specific threads about the game, and not whatever drama the neckbeards have dreamt up this week.

I decided to restart as I realised I'd fucked up and not set the Inquisitor's history properly. After some more tinkering in the character creator, I managed to get her much closer in appearance to the way she looked in DAI, but not anywhere near 100% accurate.
Very impressed with the combat so far, in that the rogue is very light on their feet and I enjoy being both a dual wielder and an archer all at once. It just works, and I'm finding I'm putting more variety into my attacks.
It didn't even occur to me yesterday that I hadn't seen any achievements pop, until just now when my restarted Rook woke up in the Lighthouse and the first notification popped up, so I'm guessing achievements on Steam weren't enabled properly until today.

Really is tiresome and brings the discussion down here. We're fortunate that nobody seems to share the morons' views either, so stick it all in one thread and leave the actual threads to discussing games, not cunts.

I’m normally a sword and board kind of guy but the rogue does sound ace in this. I caved and brought this. A couple of reviews let on to what happened at the end of Inquisition so I just figured I might have go with it. If I find after a couple of hours I feel a bit lost I will go back to Inquisition and Veilguard will be there in the future to play. Plus I get to support the developer. Does feel like BioWare put everything into this. And it’s a sale against the incels too. On my way home from Sussex to Cornwall so hopefully get an hour or so in later.
