Just seen this is on ea play pro. Tempting as it means I can play it now for £16 as I doubt it will take more than 4 weeks to complete.

This whole "you can't be bad!" stuff seems weird to me. Was that ever a thing in Bioware post-KotoR? The Renegade paths in ME are far more "do anything to get the job done" than calling everyone in a dick, you're locked into either lawful good or lawful neutral for the most part. It sounds like you can't even be rude or snarky. Something I think us forumites might struggle with.

Hair tech looks amazing, both PS5 versions look like balls in comparison to Full-bells-and-whistles-PC.

Trying to read up on this today offered some very confusing rewviewpinions to wade through. The negative ones largely complained about things I could live with, and the positive ones kept raving about how amazing things are without telling me why. Bloody hell games journalism, I'm not looking for an opinion or score to agree/disagree with, I want an opinion that will give me an idea if *I* will like it or not.
But this and the RPS review make me think it's pretty much what I expected it to be from the trailers and previews. Probably fine, but not really made for me.

On one hand, the vast majority of people don't ever actually pick the "be nasty" paths that developers put a lot of time into so it kinda makes sense to just not bother (there's a stat that like... 90%+ go paragon in ME).
On the other, I don't actually think that's a particularly good reason to not do it anyway. A lot of RPG is about the *possibility* even if you don't do it.

Yeah, "role-playing game" kind of starts losing its meaning when it doesn't give you roles to play

From what I read it was the lack of conflict with companions that seemed to be the big one. Or just moral decisions all being a bit meh, rather than something dramatic like Templars vs Mages in the previous games, with companions favouring both.
Then again I like the fact Baldur's Gate games companions will straight up leave if they don't like you.

I usually try avoiding party compositions where that would come into play, but I do appreciate it being there.
And having Kagain in the party more recently in BG1 was certainly refreshing. Even though I didn't know for the longest time who he was actually referring to with his frequent "altruistic moron" remark.

Don't most Bioware fans just play their games for the dating/banter anyway? Sounds like they've nailed it.

I still remember rage quitting all those years ago, when Ashley kills Wrex.

'The vast majority of people never choose the evil, rude or selfish options', so it's no problem if they're dispensed with entirely sounds like something just made up as an ad-hoc justification.
Mass Effect Paragon vs. Renegade is a terrible metric to use. Mass Effect puts up so many guard rails and checks and balances there is no point to most renegade choices. The evil action should offer a tremendous short-cut that actually makes it tempting but the so called 'choices' that were all the rage around the time of Mass Effect are nearly all balanced exactly 50/50.
If it boils down to asking people if they want the blue lightsaber or the red lightsaber but they're otherwise identical and red lightsaber isn't more powerful and offers no advantage most people will default with blue.

Personally always played renegade FemShep in ME, tbh. Little bit of galactic genocide here, wee bit of betraying and assassinating team mates there ...
Casually ordering Wrex's death and executing Modrin by quite literally shooting him in the back were particular highlights.

I liked having the option of punching reporters etc on a second playthrough, but I've always been a total goody two shoes on my first playthrough, and rarely replay games these days. So it seems like it'll be a non-issue for me.

It's not the lack of evil options that is the issue (although it also is), it's the lack of any tension within the group and bad writing. The lack of friction will likely make it exceedingly dull. At least that's my understanding.

Hair tech looks amazing, both PS5 versions look like balls in comparison to Full-bells-and-whistles-PC. Thanks. Just watched that and the female character they created had such amazing hair I’m definitely getting this via ea pro at some point in the next week. That hair alone on pc is worth the £16. The environments also looked absolutely stunning and varied on pc as well.

Holy shit that's some nice hair! Fingers crossed that the PS5 pro at least bumps it up a bit.

Where’s the cheapest place on PC? Been fucked over on eBay for Metaphor so I’ll get this now.
If I purchase on Steam, can I pre-load it?

Is there a trial of the service or even a game trial like EA used to have with EA Play?

Cheers for that, that’s shite. Kids and wife are away till Saturday and I would’ve had loads of time to play it. I probably won’t bother now then, as I’ve got slow broadband. 30mb

I have bought a digital copy for about £44 on my Xbox from Eneba. Cheap USA key I'll redeem with VPN.
I'll be going in with no pre-conceieved ideas and will judge it on its own merits. Hopefully a lot of fun can be had, but I was sold when I found it had a Mass Effect style power wheel you could bring up to select team mates abilities. I fucking love Mass Effect.

Thats not bad, I’m guessing you don’t have the code yet? Dont forget you can preload it using the Xbox app on mobile.

After much deliberation, I opted to cancel my pre-order. Some games - Dragon's Dogma II, for instance - scream, "Worth every penny at launch!" For me, Veilguard whispers, "Maybe in a few months, when the price has dropped by half."
I'll be following along closely in this thread, though, and I hope those of you who pick it up have an absolute blast.

No pre-load on Steam is a madness. There store page is telling me it's a 100gb install.
