I could never say that Halo 4 and 5 were good campaigns let alone good Halo campaigns. Infinite too, great gunplay and movement but a campaign that lacked structure, good level design and setpieces. Fair point on 4&5, I couldn't even finish 5. Disagree regarding infinite not being great although yeah it needed more epic moments like halo 1-reach. I think reach and 3 are two of the best campaigns ever. I'd also include ODST among the best Halo campaigns, mostly for the great -almost noir- atmosphere

And that's why they typed halo 1-reach

Halo 3 and Reach were brilliant because they started small with their levels and got bigger, Infinite lost a lot of that with having a fair few missions in the open world, the missions set in closed locations were somewhat hit and miss. If you can actually name 3 memorable events/missions in Infinite the way you can about 3 and Reach I'd be impressed.

If we're recommending Bioshock as an FPS, there's also Daikatana
Agreed about the atmosphere in ODST but the story is quite silly

This is probably my ignorance talking, but I've never regarded BioShock, Deus Ex, Prey, Dishonored etc. as FPSs.
CoD, Battlefield, Metro, Doom, Rage, Titanfall, Crysis, Destiny, Far Cry, Homefront, Killzone, Overwatch, and Wolfenstein, sure.
Borderlands? Hmm. Not sure.

Bioshock is pretty non stock action between the occasional exploring or dialogue.

We (as a gestalt entity) count No One Lives Forever as a FPS, yes?

They're FPS games with a bit more character/world depth in their gameplay. More FPS/RPG cross
Borderlands has more in common with Diablo but 3 plays great as a moment to moment FPS

What would you class them as?
BioShock/Prey - immersive sims.
Deus Ex - RPG/stealth/immersive sim.
Dishonored - stealth/immersive sim.
Borderlands - RPG/looter shooter.
I appreciate that it all gets a bit nebulous and subjective after a point, though, especially as the stealth elements of Deus Ex and Dishonored are 100% optional!
Oh, and I should probably specify that when it comes to Deus Ex, I'm only referring to the Adam Jensen titles - I don't know about the earlier ones.

I just really didn't like the shooting in Bioshock. It's so floaty and weightless. As a complete game, it's alright. As an FPS, it's not that fun to play

Still one of the very best worlds to explore ever. I love Bioshock so much (even if, yes, the shooting was a bit pish)

TF2's campaign would probably be in my top 10. Depending on how strictly we're defining single-player-FPS-campaign.
Do things like Doom and Quake count as a 'campaign'?
Anyway, TF2 is almost like a modern Jedi Knight at times, and Jedi Knight is the best FPS campaign, so win.

I think Doom and Quake (originals) are probably a bit too anachronistic to recommend to someone asking about single player FPS games in 2023, as much as I love them. More akin to levels in a platform game than a modern FPS campaign

Can't. No PC and there's no OSX version. Pity. Unless there's a workaround?
Edit: A quick google suggests maybe but fuck doing all that faff.

Daikatana is widely considered one of the shittiest big games ever.
And they aren't wrong.
