I watched this afternoon and was a bit underwhelmed tbh.
The main issues are that Andor as character is a complete personality vacuum. He puts his hands in jacket pockets a lot and asks people for things. The other issue is that it just didn’t feel very Star Wars to me.
It suffers in the same way that Wheel of Time thing on Amazon did, where the costume design and overall look makes it feel like you’re watching people play Star Wars dress up, rather than an actual world. A lot of it felt like some one was just filming one of the those Secret Cinema weekends. Then the flashback bits felt like a dodgy 90s kids tv show and the security team seemed to be from a completely different film entirely, like the Fifth Element or something.
If was alright and hopefully it will improve a bit now they’re leaving that original planet. I don’t want any back flipping Jedis or anything, but if you went in completely blind you’d struggle to realise that had anything to do with Star Wars in those 3 episodes.

I didn’t think he was a personality vacuum, Diego Luna is excellent in this.
The rest seems extremely harsh but I guess if you’re not feeling it then you’re not feeling it. To me it all feels like one of the better extensions of the universe, based in the outer rim. The Scottish accent threw me a bit though.

Yeah I really like it but I'm of the opinion that when you put aside nostalgia, Rogue One is by far the best Star Wars film, or at least the last hour is, so this was going to be right up my street. Wish they'd just fucking release the whole thing at once though.

Yup. The best film is Rogue One. Empire is the best movie. Jedi is my personal favorite because nostalgia, (and having the best scene of any SW)
This series looks to continue the same vibe of telling grounded, real stories in the universe, dispensing with all the hand wavy fantasy stuff. Rogue One managed to come out at the end being the most Star Wars of all the movies. I expect, considering the shared creatives, that this will wind up doing the same
The story we will get from 12 thirty to forty minute episodes could be something really quite special indeed

Andor continues to be precisely what I want from a Star Wars show, it's a grown up thriller that's not blasters and explosions all the time but there is plenty of conflict. I have to say that Mon Mothma's husband is a complete cunt, she deserves better So many Easter eggs this week too.

It's a bit weaker for me this week after such a different and strong opening, but it's just down to settling into the setup for what's to come, so ok. I'll be patient.
Love how it's showing openess in exploring the world, and hopefully they continue following suit with the characters, as I'm really interested in what they'll do with our demoted chappie.
And not a lightsaber in sight. Good.

It’s begging to open up like flower petals in the morning sun. Wondering how many folks at this point will be refreshed as working for the rebels as it progresses.
Also, mad props for filming in the Highlands and making a near direct reference to the Clearances.

The Clearances ref would certainly have gone over the heads of a lot of the international audience but it was pretty blatant.

Shame he’ll be dead next week! He didn’t even get to finish building Christopher poor lad. Never watched Imitation Game, no idea who the actor is, but I still know exactly who you're talking about. Same vibe, death flags ahoy.

The “corporate but with integrity” guy seems like he will switch from Antagonist to Tagonist, maybe after a period of seeking revenge on Andor.

Slightly embarrassed to admit that I'd watched and enjoyed the first 4 episodes and whilst credits rolled Disney+ suggested watching Rogue One next. It was whilst idly staring at the promo image that I realised the familiar looking actor on screen was the same bloke.
I've already seen Rogue One and thought it was really good. It appears I need Star Wars dumbed down for me!

People complain his acting is wooden.

I'm all over this. Rogue One is my fave film in all the wars of stars lot because I can't be arsed with all the space magic, light sword ninja, hand wavey bollocks.
I love seeing all the political machinations that affect the 'boots in the mud' on other planets.
I want all the episodes now FFS! I've decided to watch rogue one again

+1 to liking this, no mention of tatooine and making the galaxy feel a bit larger. It's people doing their part without all the "choosen one" malarkey. Although I am getting Gilliam's Brazil vibes in how the empire is represented
I'd put money on one of those ISB officers who clashed over juristiction becoming a rebel

I had this problem when I finished work this morning. To the usual choruses of see you tonight, I replied, “Nope, new Star Wars this morning. Going home, getting drunk and calling in sick.” Imagine my upset when I figured out it was Tuesday? Still having a few drinks.

I've just caught up to episode 3 and bloody hell - that was easily the best 40-odd minutes of Star Wars I've seen since, well, Rogue One actually (so happy to see the love for that in this thread).
I'm absolutely hooked now.

One episode a week is killing me now, need the conclusion of the three part arc NOW! Spoiler protected but not spoilery really if you're impatient when was the last time a single TIE fighter actually seemed like such a threat?

I find myself checking how much is left in an episode, worried it’s almost over. Hard to tell how much time has passed as I’m finding this utterly engrossing.
Whizzo, I’m getting worried that the season ending is going to be unbearable. I could live in this show week in week out; like a high quality Star Wars soap opera.
Five episodes in and there’s not been a single ‘wait/huh/that’s silly/impossible’. It’s as if, unlike Obi and Boba, they didn’t just film the first draft. The scriptwriters are at the top of their game. And respect to whichever Disney execs let this show become what it is. Surely sone hard choices had to be fought for.

The writing is spot on, the way the traitor lieutenant got his own men to recommend that only essential personnel should be in the area the heist was going to happen so that people could see the "meteor shower" was excellent, you could see him looking happy as he walked away. Star Wars can have the more actiony stuff and do the more subtle stuff too, hopefully there's more like this on the way once the two seasons of Andor are over.
