Yeah there’s very little similarity between this and Rogue One other than it’s about the start/early rebellion, nothing to do with Jedi and a couple of the actors are the same. The set design feels similar to R1. A friend, who hasn’t watched Andor yet, didn’t enjoy Rogue One that much. I have still recommended this as must watch TV.

Look I didn’t give a shit about Rogue One, but Andor is superb and more necessary than I would have ever thought, it elevates Star Wars, makes both the rebels and imperials three-dimensional, and the latter scary, a bit too real.
It makes me feel obliged to watch Rogue One again to reassess.

I avoided the thread as was always a little behind on viewings but I'm glad it's been so well recieved.
Just great SciFi. Tense, well paced, fantastic well written characters and it just looked so fucking good.
It's parsecs away from the other shows. Though it does make me think "what could have been" if they had gone in this direction with those rather than pew pew.
Delighted we're getting another season.

I'm hoping the collective ejaculation of every nerd on the internet will mean this is just the start of this kind of Star Wars.

It exposes mostly just how relatively mediocre the new trilogy is. And that's coming from someone who enjoyed them and gave the weaker points a pass, because it was basically space fantasy, and I quite liked the new gen of actors.
But Andor couldn't get that pass, so it needs to be not shit.

We should start petitioning for the Max Rebo show then. That would have to work so hard to prove it’s worth it could usher in the fucking age of Aquarius

I don’t think there’s been a more heartbreaking line in a tv drama this year than “I don’t want to be alone” I dunno how to swim?

Finished the season today and it was superb. It's the best Star Wars thing since Empire. I thought Rogue One was a vapid boring excuse for (admittedly well done) pew pew so this had to win me over and it did in the first three episode arc. Then it kept being good and stuck the landing.

An incredibly positive Honest Trailers video, which isn't always the case. I'm not sure I was quite expecting Diego Luna to have that particular fetish...

I have watched it twice now. This is the Star Wars I never knew that I needed. I read the comics, the novels, play the video games, buy the pants and socks, own twelve different pairs of pyjamas, and never grew up. Mandalorian is going to be shit after this.

Just got to the episode where our protagonist is introduced to the other rebels. Faye Marsay has a striking resemblance to Bradley Cooper.

That Empire list is pretty much in line with what I'd choose, and the top 3 matches, given that I've not seen everything on their list. The Guardians top 50 put Andor at 29 which is frankly ridiculous, but about what I'd expect from them these days.

I’d probably go with either Andor or The Bear at number one.
Behind them some order of Strange New Worlds, Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared and Beavis & Butthead as 3-5. I don’t think I’ve laughed as hard or purely at a show as much as I did at B&B in years.

From Gilroy;
“Well, we’re on the same schedule that we were before… So, we started shooting in November, so we’re on the same schedule we were before. So we we finished last time shooting in August, so we’ll finish… we’re shooting now, we shoot all the way through August and then it takes a year for us to finish it.”
Only another year and a half and a bit to go boys!

Very late to the party, just recently got 'round to starting and then very quickly finishing this - so bloody good.
I have very minor nit picks but shows how much I enjoyed it.
In light of Andor, I think my major issue now is; how shit the sequel trilogy is and just how much of a slap in the face it was.

Also late. Finished it last night and was a million times better than all the other star wars series. I was a bit disappointed as I wrongly assumed it was a one off and would lead straight into the movie but there is a second and final season in August 2024. . But yeah absolutely loved this first season.

Each of the story arcs in season 2 will be one year further along so the very last episode will lead into Rogue One.

This is the first series in a long time where I’ve gone back to rewatch sections because they’re just so good. Even yesterday I was rewatching Maarva’s monologue. Brilliant writing.

IMHO all that speech did was insight a riot where people needlessly died. She could have said "organise and be smart", which would have fit nicely into Andor's flashback of his Dad teaching him how to thoughtfully renovate parts (even then, that scene had kind of anti capitalist vibes rather than anti-fascist ones). However, the show didn't shy away from showing death and repercussions and it is all very grey ethically which is why it is so good.

The pipe bomb wasn't going to stay unused no matter what Maarva said from beyond the grave.
The young Imperial officer that decided to try and shut B2 up really shouldn't have, letting the crowd seethe a bit would have eventually fizzled out (until Wilmon chucked his bomb at least) and he should have been more cautious given Ferrix's past.
The same could have been said of a lot of historical incidents in a certain place on these islands too.

In a lesser show, it would incite an uprising and the empire would get defeated and hooray for the brave rebels. But this show - whew. Nobody gets away with it easily. You mess up a policing operation? Desk jobs as a nobody or highly dangerous manual labour from now on. You make a daring escape? Oh dear, your friends and family you left behind now suffer the consequences of spitting in the face of a hugely powerful ruling class. Everything in Andor is about the cost and consequence of your actions, and that’s why I love it. And that is also why Luthen’s speech is so powerful, because he recognises his own tragic circumstances but knows he must continue.
