Just watched it last night. The whole episode was fantastic. The prison is brilliantly realised and again the acting is astonishingly good throughout. Main Nazi woman is especially good and the budding romance with the little fascist poindexter is wonderfully skin crawly. I'm going to be gutted when this is finished.

It does feel like it was made for people who have grown up loving Star Wars instead of keep aiming at the same age group.

The torturer was absolutely giddy about getting to use his toy. Hope he's one of the first to go.

Another banging episode (9), the nuance in Andy Serkis’s performance is mesmerising.
I’m honestly blown away by how good this is, I’d long since dropped Star Wars as shallow adolescent pew pew. But this has breathed life into the whole franchise for me again.

Yeah, this feels like a massive fuck up because Disney's direction has been consistently lame, and get this is unbelievably good. Surprised it exists.
The prison is terrifying but the best thing about the series so far. It's probably Breaking Bad the last time I hated waiting a week for an episode this much.

Also, I worried after episode 6 that the second arc wouldn't be as good, but the second half has been much better.

It feels like they got a very talented person to make it and left him to make it. Boba felt like some shit pumped out of a committee by people in a rush. It’s easily the best SW in years, hopefully they realise this world building approach is better than the fan service shite. My brother in law is one of those that says Andor is too boring, citing that he doesn't like the characters and there isn't any known characters in it. I had mentioned that there were 3 episode arcs this series leading to a 2 episode finale and he says "Oh right, so maybe Ahsoka can come into it then for a big finale or something". Just really made me realise that is what Mandlorian S2 and Book of Boba has done, sections of SW fans hoping and praying to clap at any cameos that come in. There was an article last week about a theory that Andy Serkis character was actually the origin story of Snoke. Its so dumb. Most of Star Wars stuff has been jangling a set of keys in front of fans, and they occasional blurt out “Hey! I remember that particular key from before!”

Andor has been something of a revelation so far. I'm now caught up and it is by far and away the best of the spin of series and eclipses many of the films.
Mando s1/s2 had moments but I can't warm to that whole 'Child' side - mainly since it looks and moves like some creature shop first-pass reject.
Less said about Boba and Obi-Wan the better.
Andor has just the right amount of balance with the various threads, and though we know where it is ultimately heading it still has enough breathing space to throw in some new stuff that does feel shoehorned into place.
Production design is excellent, and the prison is a work of twisted genius. I had wondered if the whole 'live-digital studio' thing would start to look overly obvious but I'm not seeing that here - maybe a better mix of location and digital?
Thanks to the original's British accented Empire plenty of UK support acting talent got a look in too. Wondered how Moxey had got on - all the worst jobs I see.

There’s not a lot of the digital studio in this. IIRC they’ve mostly used it very sparingly and so much of it is real locations or sets.
I’m never quite sure how real locations end up so expensive for things like desert locations. Just drive an hour out of LA with the cast and handful of crew?

They call one of the prisoners on Andors team ‘melchitt’ or similar. He had a Scottish accent. He must be the guy from Rogue One that breaks Jynn out of the imperial tank thing nearly the start.
Its tying things together nicely but not shoehorned in

It’s Melchi and yeah, same fella. Wait till you rewatch RO. He’s basically second in command of the Scariff strike team
This show is backfilling the existing movies and making them richer and, in certain cases like this, more meaningful and impactful

Watched R1 over the weekend and in it Andor says he's never been held prisoner/in a prison before and now it's ruined both for me.

He also says he’s been in ‘this fight’ since he was six years old, which used to sound like he meant that was when he joined the rebellion…

I took it that no prison could hold him. He escapes in R1 and I think that’s what’s coming in Ep10 of Andor

I'm fine with mental gymnastics. I instantly rationalised it as "ah, in the tv series he's imprisoned under a different name, therefore continuity is saved"

Ep10 - another superb episode. The Luthen character and the writing for him are fantastic. I won’t say any more until a few more have seen it.

Just fantastic stuff and two accomplished actors giving superb performances in "just" a Star Wars TV show. Now the wait for next Wednesday begins...

The writing and acting are fucking nuts how good it is. Just to give myself a breather I watched about 20 minutes of “The Black Hole” - one of the worst movies ever made. If you want to laugh at how bad a script can be, try watching it. Disney saw Star Wars and pooped out this glorious turd in response, and now we can watch both on Disney Plus.
