Remember Me (PC) DontNod does an action game. Seems quite french so far, with cool neo-future Paris and some iteresting ideas about future tech. Haven't got far enough to have a strong opinion yet, but the setting is definitely my kind of thing. Might be a bit buggy though. It always seemed interesting and both aesthetics and story did get some praise, I think. Complaining was mostly focussed on the combat system or its difficulty (?) I had heard the same. I'm very early days, so my opinion will probably change, but so far I'm liking the combat system. However, they do a really bad job introducing and explaining it. Which is odd, became they've put a whole bunch of tutorial popups in there that appear when they introduce a new element. But they insist on introducing new elements with a pretty tough trial by fire. Eg: They'll introduce the concept of some moves recovering your health, but they'll do it by having you reduced to 1 health at the start of the battle, against about 5 enemies. Whereas they should have introduced it by having you reduced to like 25% health against a single enemy, and then had a succession of one or two enemies come in after you defeat them. It has the interesting idea of a Combo Lab where you can build your own combos. But the UI doesn't quite work how you'd think, and at the beginning you don't have enough blocks to play with, so again it's confusing until later when you've finally got a few more blocks and worked out how the UI works. But it is nice to be able to flip around at high speed, after the slower paced combat of Space Marine. Though I hit a multi-stage boss fight last night and had to go to bed before I could finish, so I'll probably have to do that all again tonight. So there's potential for me to go straight to hating it.

I didn't get off the first level of Resurrected on Normal. Don't think I even got past the flying red demon dickhead I had to look it up online, and this video helped me. Interestingly this also (sometimes) works in OG GNG. Also I'd say don't feel bad about playing on Squire difficulty, it's still very hard. If you want more after that, you can still play again on higher difficulties.

As I've written in the horror thread, Withering Rooms has its greasy, bloodied hands on me at the moment. It might be just the best 2D Bloodborne I've ever played.

I saw a couple of videos that described the games more as puzzle platformers where you're trying to work out exactly what you need to do to progress in each part of a level, which makes sense
Definitely going to take some time and dedication. I do really love the look of it

Still playing Tomb Raider 1 and really enjoying it so far.
Never completed it back in 1997 when I first played it so determined to put that right.
Combat is awful but the atmosphere and music are still top notch.

Thought I'd try the Uncharted Collection which I haven't played in years and started with 2. It's fun and it's quite witty but my word I had forgotten how that era in gaming really struggled with pacing and just threw combat at you to paper over the cracks. It's actually quite silly how many enemies the game throws at you endless waves after endless waves. Stealth is a possibility but it's not guaranteed as it seems to break the game if you leave a particular area without going loud.
I'm enjoying it but it's become quite comical where it throws armored enemies with shotguns at close range who need to be shot precisely in the head flanked by enemies with mid range assault rifles who sometimes throw grenades, a guy with a rocket launcher backed up by some snipers.
I distinctly remember 3 leaning into it waaaay harder and me not enjoying it as much especially because the aiming was really off back in the day.

I remember joking with a mate that Nathan Drake is a mass murderer. 3 is the one I beat on crushing... I think. There was one part on a ship, if it is the game I'm thinking of, that was bloody difficult.

But yeah it's ridiculous where the game tries to paint the image that he's a charming rogue when he literally kills a small army through the entire game.

I don't think I have the patience for it now, but I think once you get into the swing of things, then you can do it. It is very reliant on using the pistol for headshots if I recall!

That ship level in Uncharted 3 is where I dropped it at launch. Presumably the remasters are a lot better, but on PS3 it felt like you were constantly battling with the aim.

Taking a break from RDR2. Completed Return to Monkey Island and thought I'd give Crusader Kings 3 a go.
I like the concept but bloody hell is it confusing. I'm doing the tutorial but its just throwing loads of random stuff at me. I'm thinking it might be one of those games where you have to learn by doing (and failing). I'll stick with it a bit as I think it could be good, but I've got a feeling I'm going to end up getting too frustrated with it.

I'm playing Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader.
I have never Warhammered before, so it's been a bit hard getting used to all the names of things and places and people and such. But it's done a decent job of onboarding me.
I've decided to go Dogmatic, this Emperor of Mankind seems like a decent kind of fellow.

I thought I knew what Vampire Survivors was about but the 'crash, random switch to new level, slow clap, restart game in another language' thing threw me and I don't know what's going on anymore. There's so much

Read a couple of the books recently (also never Hammered a War, only played a video game or two) and found a lot of incidental humour in reading stuff like "Skullassaulter Mnarrgus, Mega-Colonel of the Third Battalion Xenobotherers of Ghmanga VI, set his chainblastzooka to PURGE and vaporised the charging Plibberlunger fanatics. The purple mist of heretic viscera enveloped the Xenobotherers like the summer rains on Grukorpyklusk."
It's like trying to make sense of Dark Souls lore, but much more insane.

Having polished off the campaigns for COD (MW2 remaster and Black Ops)recently I thought I would carry on with them for time being, so started BLOPS2 on ps3 earlier today.
I have also just started Act 3 on Dead Island definitive edition.

Yeah, I don't think I'm ever going to get too deep into that, even if (I assume) the ridiculousness of the names and lore is intentional and played for laughs. But this specific story is (so far) pretty easy to grasp. Go into uncharted territory, meet the locals, claim resources for the majesty of the Imperium. I can get on board with that.

I made a start on the first Uncharted game (never played them before) inspired by the Uncharted level in Astrobot. It's OK. As you say, it throws a lot of enemies at you. I've made it up into the tower/castle where you find that girl's parachute. The combat sections feel a bit long and repetitive and the exploration/puzzle solving sections are a bit short. And they're a clearly delineated. Might have been nice to have an element of danger in the exploration. Or have a couple of guys shooting at you when you're trying to climb or solve a puzzle. I've already moved on/back to MH Rise. Inspired by the Wilds beta test. And then Lego Horizon is coming next week, which is tempting.

Dread Templar: It's fairly reminiscent of Dusk. Seemed more on the easy side at first (on Normal), but the last few sections of the second chapter were pretty hard and it was even more true for the third chapter. One issue is that there are save points. One can sometimes go back to them to save, but the last bits of the last two maps of chapter three had multiple difficult encounters in a row before the next save point a few times. I don't know how it compares to Doom Eternal or something like that, but there are often quite a few projectiles in the air and there are various fast, deadly enemies that will often approach at the same time as you are still under fire from afar. Most of them don't die easily either.

The 1st is the worst for it as they were really making up as they went along and like I said it's truly a product of it's era in gaming. I think Lost Legacy is where they really found the sweet spot.

Turtles Shredder's Revenge (currently on Steam sale alongside Streets of Rage 4)
So far it seems pretty fun although not on the same level as Turtles in Time. But now I'm upset because I got a "Mode 7" achievement for throwing enemies at the camera despite that never having been a Mode 7 effect. When will people stop calling every graphics effect on the SNES Mode 7?? Literally shaking with anger

CK2 is the only game I've ever played where I had to watch a 2 hour YouTube video of a guy playing the game and explaining some core concepts. I tried the tutorial and it explained the menus but not what you were actually meant to try and do. It's a good game when it clicks though.

With less knowledge of the games I didn't have much of a preconceived idea of who Nathan Drake is. I would say that Mark Wahlberg is too young to be Sully though. Surely he's an old Ernest Borgnine type..? Oh, and the bird couldn't get her accent right. Half the time she was English, half the time Australian!
