Or just like Intrusion 2, pumping rock soundtrack and just ride wolves and pilot mechs and shoot stuff. Yes, it's short and it was made by 1 dude, and looks a bit like a flash game and probably has floaty controls or whatever you 2d game pros always complain about, but for me, it's just a condensed 2-3 hours of fun.
By the way, the creator of this game also worked on rigidbody dynamics in Ori and the will of the wisps.
As a 2D game pro, I have to say the video is not selling me on it, zag

I'm a bit into Monster Boy now and it's been fun. It doesn't really feel like a Metroidvania (yet)- more like a puzzle platformer, which I'm really enjoying
Stuck in Dawn of Sorrow because I don't know where to go next. I've got a faint memory of something (probably being stuck in the same place) but nothing is jumping out at me with the last ability I got
Also started a new file on Dead Cells. Just picking up the runes for the moment. Did manage to complete it on my second run after messing up the boss fight the first time. Mad good

Monster Hunter World (PS5)Had a bit of a dummy spit with this yesterday, deleting it in frustration in the morning after struggling to take down one of the monsters. Even posted a little rant in the Recently Abandoned Games thread about how the combat and mechanics are bad, before deleting it as it was a bit too salty. But then I literally could not stop thinking about the damn game for the rest of the day. It seems it has gotten its hooks into me. So I downloaded it again on the evening and started a new character, this time taking a bit of a different approach. I chose a bow instead of dual swords as it felt like keeping a bit of range between myself and the monsters would make the combat easier/more enjoyable, plus this time I'm gonna embrace the grind and take my sweet time farming gear sets before moving on to the next story mission. Which I guess is how it's meant to be played, right? Anyway, I had a much more enjoyable couple of hours on it before going to bed, and I think it might be clicking finally. The bow is a lot of fun to use and I'm now watching some tutorials and guides for the game and can't wait to get back to it. Sounds like you have toxic relationship with the game. Did you try to see other games when you were broken up?

Totally recommend the charge blade, bit of a learning curve but it comes with a shield and which you can transform into a massive blade. It's fucking awesome and I've been a switch axe player for life. Also remember that cutting off tails and damaging weakspots can absolutely stop the most damaging moves of most monsters.

As a 2D game pro, I have to say the video is not selling me on it, zag Eh, it's okay. The fault is probably with me and that I just like almost all such games. I simply do not have your refined palate. Might also be a console vs. PC thing, because I don't have experience with console classics like Mega Man, Sonic etc. I started with games like Prince of Persia, Rick Dangerous, Commander Keen, Jazz Jackrabbit, Earthworm Jim and so on.

I finished American Arcadia over the course of two days. I have mostly positive thoughts about it.
After that, I started having a proper go at Kena: Bridge Of Spirits, after an aborted first attempt quite a while ago. Was thoroughly enjoying it, then I realised that I'd probably played through about two thirds of it without using the ability upgrade tree at all, because I forgot it was there. Which was probably why I started finding those timed challenges from the cursed chests so difficult after a while. (All that for a fucking unicorn hat!?)
Played through what must be about my five hundredth Sins Of A Solar Empire: Rebellion campaign with the Star Trek: Armada 3 mod. Which now brings my total SOSE playtime up to 2646.9 hours, according to Steam.
Now gone back to Hardspace: Shipbreaker for relaxing times.
Wondering if I can squeeze in a replay of the original Deus Ex between now and the launch of Dragon Age: Veilguard on Thursday.

That video (of Intrusion 2) looks too slow and floaty for me. It reminds me of the difference between a 2d Castlevania, and something like Bloodstained where the characters are modelled in 3d. There's just a snappiness to pixel movement that 3d models often lack.
(do I sound like an expert)

I don't think I ever beat the final boss on this. Was a fun few hours though.

The only PC platform game I can think of that I've played is Abuse, which I liked quite a bit at the time. I mainly remember that it came with a pretty easy to use level editor and spent a lot of time playing around with that
Actually, Rick Dangerous is ringing some bells now I think about it
There is something kind of uncool about PC platformers - a bit 'how do you do, fellow kids'
I had a SNES, MD and N64, etc but was mostly a PC player up until... PS3 maybe. Point n click early days, then FPS and RTS. C&C was my favourite game for ages (and still is one of). I tried watching a let's play of Tiberium Twilight the other day, just to see how things end, but it's so bad. What a way to end it - by completely changing the gameplay. The remasters look great though

Hopefully fresh eyes will help because I'm already stuck in Dawn of Sorrow! The puzzles are just right- nothing feels too obtuse and I've felt a lot of satisfaction working things out, especially finding hidden areas. The different forms plus equipment also feels quite different from the typical Metroidvania formula of just gaining new abilities as you progress. It's probably not that different on paper but the execution feels so
It does look lovely- such a lot of personality in everything. As much as I still enjoy pixel stuff, I love it when there's something like this that feels modern. 2D shouldn't have to be retro
With regards to 2.5D, I don't think it's inherently bad. Mario Wonder, the DK Country Returns games and Metroid Dread all look and play really well. I think it tends to be a budget thing so that's probably a greater factor. Bloodstained is fine but going back to the DS Castlevania games, they look so much better

I love that the pig has a bandanna and eye patch. There's no reason for him to have those things, but it's just so cute.

Haha, the little raccoon/fox kids look so angry. Really weird that the girl says she won't eat pigs anymore (except for bacon) if animals in this world can talk!
The way the snake looks when it eats something is brilliant as well

Isn't that because it's based on the shopkeeper design from the original, who was meant to be a rough pirate-y pig?

The cheerful faces of the crabs always get me. So good. It does look lovely- such a lot of personality in everything. As much as I still enjoy pixel stuff, I love it when there's something like this that feels modern. 2D shouldn't have to be retro Yeah I love some good high-res true 2D graphics. See also G'n'G Resurrection and Hollow Knight. Bloodstained is just very uneven, in some places it looks fine, in others it hurts your eyes. Maybe it is due to some areas being done cheaply because, but I think just poor art direction might have played a major role too. 2.5D is dangerous in high-precision games because if it's not done well it can be difficult to tell where the actual level geometry is, and sometimes it's done so badly that enemies are obscured by walls or floors. How well the devs are aware of it and prevent these problems makes all the difference. Mega Man is a nice example because MM Powered Up does it badly but MM11 does it very well. This isn't even only a problem of 2.5D graphics, using perspective can have adverse effects even in full 2D graphics, for example Ninja Gaiden has much less clarity than "flat" 2D games inspired by it like The Messenger and Cyber Shadow. But either way, even if perspective/2.5D is done well, I'll always prefer classic true 2D where there's a 1:1 correlation between what you see and what there is.

Let me know how you get on with Monster Boy - I absolutely adored it, particularly the art style. I'm up to lion boy so far and stopped playing because I was stuck on a bit. Hopefully fresh eyes will help because I'm already stuck in Dawn of Sorrow! Fresh eyes was the ticket. I was trying to find the berries in the pirate bit but was fixated on the rock with the big X on it in the water. I had actually already found the way to the berries but didn't notice one of the rings you tongue-shot onto so hadn't properly finished the sequence. Found a couple of golden item parts while I was titting about, so no worries
I think there's shades of Zelda in this as well. Definitely some parts that feel like dungeons
And shout out to the Wonder Boy lift muzak

Getting back to The Ascent after pausing for some days. I'm still not really sold on it even though I'm now pretty close to the ending. The rest of it will probably be a combat slog as well. As if the game needed any more of that.
There is just too much combat, too much fast travel, too much walking and cleaning out enemies on the way to various locations and too many loading screens during transitions. The combat can be fun, but there is so damn much of it that it easily turns into a slog. Hard to tell why exactly. I don't mind with ARPGs after all. I'm guessing because there is more to engage with: Character building and dealing with the itemization, usually a more continous world that doesn't force a constant back and forth and none of that constant rolling around either. The Ascent just is pretty tiring and the beautiful world doesn't quite have the impact it should have with the top-down perspective. The fixed camera and occasionally capricious targetting tend to add to the frustration as well at times.

I'm playing Knack in between Tomb Raider.
I don't know why, the game is so average and Knack is one of the most poorly designed characters I can think of but I'm 5 chapters in now and feel compelled to complete it.

Did you like the original RE4 ned ? I thought the og was a bit tougher overall, obviously it’s a piece of piss for me now as I’ve completed it hundreds of times I’ll have to go back to the remake, I completed it about 10 times when it came out but never got the infinite ammo item

Actually got on a bit of a roll with Space Marine 1 and it became fun again. Big titans ftw!
Got through a couple of chapters, and then hit a bit with a bunch of bastard enemies and died. Immediately lost all will to continue.
I think it's partly me, but there's something about this game that means it's great when I'm just blasting through stuff and making progress, but i *really* don't want to replay any sections. At all. Ever. I think I'd enjoy it a lot more if I had an invulnerability cheat.
It doesn't help that deaths come so suddenly that they're almost random, and the main way to avoid them is to hide in cover while your shield recharges, which totally doesn't seem to be how the game should be played.

I have run into similar issues with The Ascent. It seems a bit random what it saves exactly and which enemies respawn, but at times it requires the player to clean out several rooms full of enemies again.
There may be games where checkpoints are the better alternative, but The Ascent isn't one of them. Yesterday when I started replaying a section after I had died I felt no motivation for doing so. I just started going through the same rooms with the same enemies again and realized that it was just mindless stubbornness. Still, better than quitting in frustration/exasperation.

I'm not finding the remake too bad difficulty wise , it's more action like than expected. I wasn't really aware of that before starting it. I'm probably spunking my ammo too freely thou. I finding it hard to get enough peso to upgrade my weapons. Mainly using a pistol and shotgun atm.

Satisfactory, over 100 hours in and at phase 4. An excellent game and still really enjoying it but I'm going to have to start using other people blueprints so I can scale my factories up to what they need to be to finish the game.Laying out everything manually is just taking ages.
The spider enemies in this game are horrible.
