Finished Terminator Resistance (PS5) earlier
I echo what nearly everybody says about it, if you like the movies at all it’s an absolute must play. Complements the first two films brilliantly
I could criticise many elements of it but I’m not going to, because overall it’s fucking ace

Undead Nightmare (Switch)
I’m about 50% through and it’s been fun for the most part. It’s pretty much Rockstar’s last effort at a GTA style rampage mission, but on a grander scale. It could definitely have a little more polish in terms of fast travelling, but at least it gives you a reason to visit parts of the map that were outright neglected in the main game.
It also has a few bugs I don’t remember experiencing back in the day. For example, my flaming horse of War died suddenly whilst sprinting (for no apparent reason), catapulting John Marston up a steep cliff and into the boundaries of the map. Having survived the flight, I died moments later after curiosity got the better of me. My journey lasted a matter of seconds before I fell through the earth, descending downward into a graphical blur, before seemingly teleporting back into the sky somewhere nearby, taking 10 - 15 seconds to meet my death in the ground, just meters from my dead horse.

Pocky & Rocky Reshrined (Steam)
A game that just puts a smile on my face, how's that for a change. I can just pick it up and do a run any time--it's about a 1-hour playthrough--and feel better afterwards. I need more games like this.

Space Marine 1 Thank the emperor! Chaos have turned up! Hopefully that'll liven things up again. PS/ The entire level that is just taking out Servo-turrets is very dull. But at least it's easy. Finished Terminator Resistance (PS5) earlier I echo what nearly everybody says about it, if you like the movies at all it’s an absolute must play. Complements the first two films brilliantly I could criticise many elements of it but I’m not going to, because overall it’s fucking ace REaaaly gonna have to try this. Future Shock and Skynet were two of my all time favorite games, so I can deal with a few flaws if the immersion is good.

Space Marine 1 was fantastic, I played that over several times.
SM2 I've just finished and... I don't know, it's flashier and moodier and just doesn't feel as fun, honestly. Also the difficulty ramp on Veteran on... that level (how do I do spoilers on here?)... after you've played several already just annoyed the heck out of me. It's not really designed for SP on anything past Normal. SM1 also didn't take itself that seriously, given the Orks; SM2 looks down on that sort of thing and has 'grown up'.
Octopath Traveller II atm, which is even better than the first, though I'm yet again trying to play it by round-robining each characters sidequests and I may run out of steam 2/3rds of the way through again. But the character arcs are a lot better written this time, too. It's not just 'Avenging me/my close family member for <insert slight here>'.

I'm finding SM1 a bit of a slog tbh. The first 3rd was great, but the middle 3rd has been rather samey. I'm hoping things are going to change up a bit from now.

Was on holiday so no gaming for me for few weeks.
Hence I stayed up to 2am last night gaming
Still on bs:sott:r
But approaching the end. On a train now.
I got into the game confidently remembering roughly what to do. So i was solving first few puzzles and progressing without issue until hospital... Which i did not remember whatsoever.
Then most of the game afterwards felt completely new. Couldn't remember the original game i played in 2009.
But scenes in Spain, in syria did trigger some recollection of the game so I did play it.
And do remember train segment in more detail.
I wonder if I had played big chunk of the game drunk back then!

Bill in the rain it’s not really flawed as such, it’s just incredibly basic and old school Still tremendously enjoyable though, despite being close to zero challenge It’s the type of game where you can sneak past threats but I just killed every single thing I saw. Except turrets, they are your best friend (you hack those) Probably the other criticism is that the other stuff you collect, sound decoys, sticky bombs, laser traps, stimulants etc are just completely pointless once you’ve got the Skynet weapons One thing I did like was the mix of night and day, constant night time missions would have been a bit of a drag

Pocky & Rocky Reshrined (Steam) A game that just puts a smile on my face, how's that for a change. I can just pick it up and do a run any time--it's about a 1-hour playthrough--and feel better afterwards. I need more games like this. I've been doing this with some old arcade games. Surprisingly, there are solid ports of The NewZealand Story, Pac-Land and Sunset Riders on Switch. Probably only play them for about 10 minutes at a time but they just cheer me up. I'm not even bothered about finishing them - I've already seen further than I ever did in the arcades anyway (except for Sunset Riders, which I've finished because I had it on the SNES as well)
Just the sound puts me back in an arcade from my yoof with them all vying to deafen me. Just need Turtles and the first Wonderboy when their collections go on sale and have them all playing on something at the same time. Sadly, no Robocop or Kung Fu Master available on Switch. I think there is a Street Fighter collection for SF1 though - "Alllriiiiight!" (SF1 belongs high on a list of bad games that had amazing sequels)
Pocky & Rocky looks fun but it also looks like a shmup and I just never really get anything about of them

Pac-Land is much easier on a gamepad. In the arcade you had to repeatedly tap left or right on the stick to move (the faster you tapped it, the faster you moved) so making some of the jumps across the pools of water was a lot more difficult than just hitting a button repeatedly. It was pretty novel in the arcade but doesn't really transfer to playing on a console. Could maybe put movement on an analogue stick but I suspect it wouldn't last 5 minutes. Still love it though

I'd add that it's basic and old school a kind of hot-water-bottle-plus-wearing-warm-socks-in-bed way - very comforting and just what you need sometimes. Did you try the infiltrator mode? Nothing special but a nice little bonus.

I think it's currently 60% off on the e-shop. Though as always, it'll probably go lower if you wait.

FlexibleFeline no not had a go of that yet, probably would like to play a bit more so I’ll have a look Was hoping there was a NG+ where you keep all your stats and overpowered weapons. Would be awesome to just blast through it again in super quick time like a Resident Evil NG+

Started Dragon Age Inquistion a few days back. Still getting me head round it a little bit, but I’m intrigued by it.
Otherwise just kind of picking up trophies for Astro bot and Odyssey. I don’t normally do this but finding it’s a useful way of not rushing through games and spending more money on them.
Odyssey is kind of weird. I don’t know if it’s just coming of the back of getting the platinum for Mirage but it’s feels like the 60fps patch has sped the game up considerably. Feels odd but in hindsight probably in line with Fenyx. Combat is fun as hell though.
Also thought I try the Witcher 3 dlc but it’s a lot more difficult than the main game. Havn’t found the patience for it yet and don’t really fancy going out of my way to retool my characters and craft certain things. Game suddenly thinks it monster hunter/souls.

Or, to put it another way, what is is missing that makes it feel basic and old school? I said I wouldn’t criticise but I’d say the movement of your character is one way it’s basic, you can’t really strafe or manoeuvre well, fights are just you picking a cover spot and popping in and out like a meerkat until it’s over Obviously it’s a previous gen game so the character models are bad. The writing is bad, the “choices” you make are very clearly signposted and make no difference anyway There’s a boss fight where you need a rocket launcher, I already had one but none of the rockets I was picking up after running out worked with it. Tried to kill it with normal guns for ages before giving up. Eventually googled it and there was a different model rocket launcher hidden in a nook somewhere As I said on the other post all the other things you collect are really cliche and uninteresting and none of them are worth using Despite all that it’s still fucking ace

Playing Sanitarium as part of my horror week, and it's great so far. It's got some annoying quirks as its late 90s heritage, but nothing too difficult to overcome.

It being a cover shooter immediately dulls my interest. (Though I'd have called that nu-school not old school ) The other stuff i can deal with, but if it's as dull as something like CoD or all those Ww2 cover shooters then I'll wait for an even bigger sale. Maybe i need to check a gameplay vid

Our playthrough of Until Dawn has ground to a halt, as we have a game breaking bug, that won’t allow us to progress. Have to start the game again, due to auto saves..

Bill in the rain I’d definitely give it a go, I’ve never played call of duty as it just doesn’t appeal to me but I enjoyed Terminator a lot The fights are usually over quite quickly, most of the game is exploring, looking for things, then a handful of enemies, quickly dispatch and move on. There’s a lot of shooting but it’s not relentless I did read the original EG review after completing it and they effectively gave it 1 out of 5 and totally missed the point. The RoboCop review sort of backtracks on the Terminator review though

I saw Return to Monkey Island on game catalogue so thought I’d give it a go. Having not played any of the other games in the series (I know, I should probably leave), I’m definitely missing a lot of the nostalgia and some of the jokes, despite reading up on the first two games.
Still, it’s a lot of fun and easy to play. A great game for my Portal.Just started chapter 4 and enjoying it a lot.

Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered
Only had a quick go, gone for updated graphics and tank controls.
My 6 year old was amazed at how it let's you switch between old and new graphics on the fly, it does look pretty cool if a little pointless.

I was sick of getting tortured in a Soulslike for hours on end in the faint hope that someday maybe any of it will get any fun, and I was sick of wandering around aimlessly in metroidvanias. Now I'm playing games again like Contra, Turtles in Time, R-Type etc., and it's so refreshing how they don't waste your time and just. Fucking. Go. In the case of Pocky & Rocky, on the one hand it's a Commando-style run'n'gun but on the other it's also just so cute and cheerful. It's an hour of adorable fun and then everyone's friends again and happy again and there's new year fireworks as the credits roll, good stuff.

Or just like Intrusion 2, pumping rock soundtrack and just ride wolves and pilot mechs and shoot stuff. Yes, it's short and it was made by 1 dude, and looks a bit like a flash game and probably has floaty controls or whatever you 2d game pros always complain about, but for me, it's just a condensed 2-3 hours of fun.
By the way, the creator of this game also worked on rigidbody dynamics in Ori and the will of the wisps.

Alan Wake Lake House DLC and it's really quite rubbish. Surprised actually, because the base game was so good but take out the story and awesome environments and characters and vibe and detective angle and replace it all with Control environments, but without the Control combat, and you've got the worst parts of both games with so little weight behind anything it feels like one very small step up from horse armour.
Also, I'm not sure play is the right word. Maybe read. It'd be in the abandoned thread if it wasn't reportedly so short and I can't handle not having 100% by the trophies.

Monster Hunter World (PS5)
Had a bit of a dummy spit with this yesterday, deleting it in frustration in the morning after struggling to take down one of the monsters. Even posted a little rant in the Recently Abandoned Games thread about how the combat and mechanics are bad, before deleting it as it was a bit too salty. But then I literally could not stop thinking about the damn game for the rest of the day. It seems it has gotten its hooks into me. So I downloaded it again on the evening and started a new character, this time taking a bit of a different approach. I chose a bow instead of dual swords as it felt like keeping a bit of range between myself and the monsters would make the combat easier/more enjoyable, plus this time I'm gonna embrace the grind and take my sweet time farming gear sets before moving on to the next story mission. Which I guess is how it's meant to be played, right? Anyway, I had a much more enjoyable couple of hours on it before going to bed, and I think it might be clicking finally. The bow is a lot of fun to use and I'm now watching some tutorials and guides for the game and can't wait to get back to it.
