If Hogwarts Legacy had a statistics screen, I would be able to tell you how many hundreds of people the child I am playing as has murdered in cold blood. While walking around with thirty grand in their pocket.

Return to Grace
More interactive adventure story than game but I’m liking the setting, voice work and relatively interesting story. It’s a short game and sweet so far a couple of hrs in.
A rare GP indie game I’m on course to finish!

Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord (remaster)
Oddly, the only Wizardry I've ever played was the one on PS2, Tale of the Forsaken Land. I randomly picked it up and absolutely loved it, up there with FFX and Dark Cloud as my favourite PS2 RPG.
I just had an urge to do some of that old grid-based dungeon-crawling. Several hours and several restarts later I can say that this remaster pulls no punches, makes no allowances for us wussy modern gamers (that's actually not quite true - there are options you can select) and you need to be very careful to meet it on its own terms - unless you want your party to lose half their health through, say, falling down a pit, or stumbling on a band of ninjas who one-hit kill your prized samurai. I have hardly any gold as I've had to resurrect players I'm not willing to let go of (the game explicitly tells you to do the opposite i.e. don't get too attached). And I've rested my party so often now they must be getting on for middle age (if I even understand that mechanic properly).
It's insanely addictive though and I think I sank about five hours into it yesterday. I'm not even past the third floor: it does pay to grind, in fact it's surely essential. A tad expensive but no regrets given it was an impulse purchase.

Deep Rock Galactic : Survivor
I picked this up as a quick pick up and play game for the deck while I was on holiday along with a couple of other things. I haven't shut it down yet or touched the other games, it's chuffing brilliant.
Once I understood 'unlocks/upgrades' system I was all in trying to upgrade weapons to lvl12 to unlock the overclocks while leading a procession of bugs around the map like the pied piper.

Flicking between Paper Trail and Chants of Senaar atm. Both excellent puzzle games that I'd heartily recommend.

System Shock
It's really fucking good. It's probably up there now as one of the best games I have. It's just done so well, and it's scary, and it's quite bloody hard at times. It's put me in a sci-fi horror kind of mood so I've reinstalled Alien Isolation and Prey as well. And maybe Dead Space.
What I did do was fire up A:I yesterday and actually go through the Last Surivivor bit of DLC (the second Ripley one). Had never actually managed ot do it befre but stuck it on hard and just went for it. Managed to finish it and ended up stunned, still, at how a near 10 year old game could look and sound so damn good. The last bit when you've hit the self-destruct and you're legging it to the shuttle. There's steam everywhere, emergency lights and sirens. It looks INCREDIBLE.
You know what else blows my tiny mind? My contract was up on my old iphone SE. Ended up getting a 15 pro for only a tenner more a month. Thought, as I've never bothered to get one of the "good" iphones, that I'd give it a try.
My fucking phone can run Alien Isolation now. My. Phone. I mean. What's up with that.

wunty +1 for prey! Once you start engaging with it's systems, especially understanding the security console and tracking bracelets it became an obsession to track everybody down. you can't actually do it unless you go for a particular path, I googled it cos a bunch of lifesigns were behind a locked door and I couldn't find the keycard The respawning enemies is the only real downside I could probably level against this as I like to know that once and area is cleared, it's clear. I suppose it would eventually get boring as there is some built in backtracking, but a fully levelled shotgun does the damage

I'm maining System Shock at the mo but wanted to hop between Mooncrash and the survivor bits of A:I as well as opposed to actually doing a new playthrough of each. I had a little play in Mooncrash yesterday as well and actually managed to unlock 2 more survivors. It's been ages since I played it as well but it's bloody good. It really is just like a new System Shock.
I'm now just waiting with baited breath for news on the enhanced System Shock 2 arriving on consoles, whenever that will be.

The chant
started it ages ago but got distracted and no doubt got annoyed by the combat as the devs couldn't work out if they wanted combat as last resort or melee heavy combat - also as its made on a smaller budget - the combat is janky and really shoddy. People use AC games as combat as last resort, more often than not, the devs were just bad at their jobs as in this the game forces you into boss fights. The dodge is a big shit as her throwing herself on the floor
I do like the idea of this game but its constant resource hunt to scoff down herbs to maintain your mind and spirit

You know what... I bloody loved The Chant. One of those games I bought on a whim and randomly fired up expecting to bounce off it. Instead I did the whole thing, and pissed about in the DLC as well. Rare that I finish a game these days so it must have done something right for me. Not arguing about it's shortcomings mind you (although personally didn't mind the combat at all), just commenting that I liked it a lot regardless.

Not sure if I’m on the final mission of the first Advance Wars game, but it is a beast in terms of length. Kinda glad about there being a casual mode. It’s proving to be quite punishing already.
Edit - It wasn’t…

Still stumbling around in Tunic. I seem to be making progress but not sure how. Or why for that matter. I’ve rung the east bell, and have just got the key for the house.. I also found a graveyard, died there then could find my way back so those coins are lost. Stick at it, you'll see what you're opening up soon. Also the pages are very useful so scrutinise those. I've only just realised the fox head on the map is a "you are here"!

I enjoyed Tunic until the point it got needlessly difficult. I like a challenge but that was just dumb. It was even irritating with invincibility turned on.

I figured out how to upgrade from the pages which has been helpful. I’m definitely better equipped now but I’m definitely going to be putting ‘easy mode’ on if I start getting stuck.

Bloody hell. Accidentally equipped an unidentified ring in Wizardry rather than having my Bishop identify it. Boom! Cursed death ring, going to cost 250,000 - yes 250,000 - gold to get it removed and there seems to be no other way to get it off.
Oh, and it means I lost the chance to sell it for that amount.
And another oh, if try to use my Bishop he loses HP with every step he takes. So I'm going to have to retire him until I somehow get that amount of money (the most I've had so far is about 10,000).
Yeah...I think I'm going to have to take a break from this game for a few days, perhaps do something less masochistic like pulling my toenails out.

Abandoning hope of a ps5 upgrade for RDR2 I started a replay. The game still looks incredible even now.

I discovered Hauntii a couple days ago with Game Pass... it is beautiful. It's an adventure game that plays a little bit like Super Mario Odyssey, not quite as inventive (there isn't nearly as much variety in stars), but it makes up for that with its looks and music and overall atmosphere.

Final Fantasy 8.
Had this on the replay backlog for a while. A little way into disc 2 now and after thinking of maybe putting aside as a little too old and antiquated it starting to get its hooks in me.
I might have attempted to replay this a few times but it’s been a good 10-15 years since I last played it. Looking at it, maybe a bit unfairly with modern sensibilities you you can’t help but feel it’s a little rushed but really ambitious at the same time. The game world is weirdly really empty and you’re just playing the skeleton of the game but at the same time they’re really pushing fmv into game scenes (and being able to move around in them) and they’re bringing in decisions/split parties and crafting in some ways.
Looking forward to playing more. Seems to have overridden the desire to play a few titles I have half started over the last couple of weeks.

Despite it's technical achievements at the time, as you say the world is incredibly empty and disconnected compared to VII and IX. It really does feel unfinished.
XV suffers the same problem in that regard.

Don't forget triple triad, that was a great game until all the weird rules from other locations started interfering.

Good old Triple Triad.
Also, Man with the Machine Gun is the best battle music in the entire series.

Tunic - I don't think I've fucked* so much in my life. *the art of shouting FUCK at the top of your voice. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK! Got the boss down to one block and I died. Only attempted it about 100 times, I refuse to lower the difficulty. Pretty sure I'm supposed to do this one last.

I’ve just entered the forest fortress. I’ve not had too many problems so far, but it sounds like the fun is still to come….
