That's the case with me. I find work just sucks too much mental energy out of me so I can't really focus enough to apply myself to, well, anything.
When I have breaks from work I actually start to consider what I'll do, start to get plans to draw more, or I'll be reading more, I'm even more likely to actually just watch things.
But then just as soon as I feel stirrings of motivation, the break is over and I'm back to work and that energy just gets hoovered up.
I am also very lazy so I'd be quite happy with increased levels of fuck all, but I know I'd find ways to fill that when I eventually get bored.

When I was off last year, I spent 3 full months deliberately doing fuck all. That was doctors orders to help with my burnout. After I started to feel a bit more balanced, that's when I started to do things I wanted to do, and it really worked. We're all so indoctrinated with work, it's a bloody hard and tangible thing to get rid of, but you can.

The lottery fantasy for me isn't even about having loads of bling or a luxury lifestyle.
It's mainly just the idea of freedom, of having a blank slate everyday you can fill in however you like.

Although, if I could spend most of the time traveling, that'd be cool.
This, but I don't exactly foresee a future where I'd be able to do so upon retiring. Plus the energy I have now I won't have when I reach retirement age (80, at this rate), so travelling would likely a much different experience. Or worse, involve going on cruises. /should have done a gap year

But the good thing about travel is that it pushes you to actually actively use your time and experience different things every day. A lot of what you do while traveling you could probably do around your hometown, but you rarely do.
It should be possible to spend every weekend visiting different cultural sites, or trying new activities, or going to different restaurants, but we tend to default to an easy routine. Travel pushes us out of our comfort zone.

I’m aiming to retire at an age that I can travel a lot again for a while. I had a good 7 or 8 years before I had kids where I enjoyed going to a lot of great places. I’m hoping when I’m 55 or so at the latest.
When that gets a too hard then there’s more time with games, film and books which would take most of the time I currently spend staring at my work laptop.

Yeah I totally get that and there's where my mindset is. I do absolutely love what I do, teaching, but I'm sick to the absolute back teeth of the bullshit around it, I just love helping people, more specifically people that are looking for help. I honestly think I would just go fully self employed with my own selection of students and then do whatever the fuck I wanted with the rest of my time. Getting an orange cat for one.

Shall we just make a lottery syndicate and then the organiser fucks off with the winnings?

Also agree - I genuinely don't want a lavish lifestyle. I want a place of my own, but I wouldn't want anything bigger than a 2 bed place, and honestly I'd be happy with a 1 bed flat if it was my own. If it was viable I'd be happy enough in a (large) static caravan. No interest in status symbols. If I wasn't having to lodge in other people's houses and had more free time I'd be fairly happy with my current lifestyle. If I did win a massive euro lottery jackpot (I rarely play so extremely unlikely) I plan to give most of it away. Actually if I won like, 250 million or something daft, I might try and fund that Alex Garland Dredd series.

Regarding property I wouldn't want a big house. Something the size of a 3 bed semi but it would be in the middle of a field with no cunt within a mile in all directions.
Perfect.

I'm happy to organise it if that's the expectation. I'm not even joking. I would definitely do a FG syndicate and then watch as Frog just randomly emoquits one day.

But it's okay as you'd be able to afford that modest place in the middle of nowhere.

That Set for Life game is what I want to win.
You don’t get enough money so that leeches can expect to buy you a house or something.
But you get 10 grand a month for something like thirty years.
Perfect.

Perfect. I read an AMA from someone who won that game and my god everyone on there mainly Americans going on like 10k a month isn't a life changing amount and you can't quit work. You can. Easily. Invest every month of course but fuck me I'd be quitting work in a heart beat. Especially at our age.

If I won the lottery, I'd buy an old building, gut it to a shell, and do as much of the renovation myself as I could. Ideal home, plus something practical to do with my time.
