This IT job at the NHS is apparently in the bag. I've got to go through an on boarding process which can take 2 or 3 weeks, and then it's a rolling contract with a view to go permanent after 6 months.
I might have an out from working weekends!
And it's a tad more cash too.

Forced myself to go into work when I could have taken a sick day for this fucking earache and swollen glands that make it painful to even swallow a mouthful of water, worked my arse off all morning and instead of any scrap of gratitude, I find myself in the latest battle in the war of words I've been having with a mad woman for nearly 7 weeks now. Told her in no uncertain terms that I, and a whole host of other people, are all quite sick of her quirks of personality making our jobs more difficult than they have any need to be, that we are sick of her condescension and infantilising tone, that half the things she says are complete nonsense to start with, and that her need to micro-manage people would be more acceptable if her way of doing things didn't result in tasks taking three times as long. Pretty sure she's going to complain to management, but they are as sick of her as the rest of us, so good luck to her trying to make "Criticising people for doing their jobs as quickly and efficiently as possible while doing their best to put up with a Rose West lookalike talking utter and relentless bollocks at them" a complaint that could possibly stick. She sounds wonderful. Hopefully management don’t take her shit.

As of tomorrow I’m going on holiday for two weeks. I’ve just spent two days typing up lists of how to do certain things when I’m away. I’m still taking the laptop though and I’m still expecting minimum one phone call per day. Joy.

Yeah, absolutely do not let them get away with that. At most, leave the laptop and give them a phone number only (one that doesn't have emails on). Then pick and choose if to answer.

Good work Quaddy. I'm waiting to hear on one at the moment that I have an interview coming for. It's a bit more demanding than my current role, but weekends will be mine and it's working for an amazing company.
I don't tick all of the boxes they want which is the thing that worries me but I am amazing at customer support and maintaining relationships which is a big part of the role. We will see!

Yeah I would love to I’m all honesty but it’s complicated in the sense that no one else there does what I do and it can basically make the difference between work going out or not. It’s a bit of a shitter but it is what it is. I’m just in resigned acceptance these days.

I'm liking this for the holiday news, not the needy work umbilical stuff! After this weekend working, I'm off for 10 days too. Very very nice timing with this potential new job. Means that if I can seal it while I'm off, when I get back to work, I can hand in my (1 week) notice. Then if I've planned this right, I can sit in my pants eating wotsits for a week or two and then start doing a job with no weekend work.

Nothing specific I want to go into, but I think my job makes me want to drink.
Need to cut down but it's so infuriating it makes me want a beer or 4.

Told this afternoon that I'm moving to a new team tomorrow It wasn't a total surprise, as it'd been on the cards for a while, but I wasn't expecting it to be quite so sudden! Hopefully it's actually a good thing, in terms of gaining experience, etc.. but it's also CHANGE! and now I"m feeling a bit impostor-syndrome.

Just been to the NHS hospital to provide my hard copies of all my ID's required. All done. Now it's another DBS check and then I should get a start date. You can't transfer recent DBS certificates can you? I've just completed one in March for my current job. Though the NHS DBS might need to be enhanced considering it's the NHS.
I'm probably going to have to do a couple more weeks at self storage while this all gets processed, but if they did do it quickly, I'd still be on 1 weeks notice.
Though my boss is off for a week after next week, and there's only going to be 1 day when I see him next Thursday. If I hand my notice in on that day, he'll have to cancel his holiday and come back in, so I might as well work an extra few days so he can have his holiday. Can handle that.
And if the NHS take a bit longer, I'll have to work longer anyway. I just don't want the probation period signing off as that means I'll have to do a months worth.
Critical timing here!

I would assume you can reuse the cert if it's the same level as the one they want (basic, standard etc) Probably worth checking with their HR as it could move things on a bit quicker.

I think it's job specific. I wouldn't hand your notice in until the contract is signed etc - public sector can take forever for the final bit. Good news though, well done!

I'm to wait a bit now while they process my ID's on my application and I should get an email asking about DBS. In the meantime, I've emailed my NHS contact to ask if I can reuse my current one and what the options are, just in case there is something I can do to speed it all up a bit. Will see.

Yes, I'm going to wait till I have a start date, and I've emailed my contact to ask the question anyway - might as well. Cheers, it's coming together a bit more now. I'm nearly there - just need to get my weekends back and hopefully after that, I can just do this job for as long as necessary. The pension is a higher priority for me now (at 52) than it would normally be, and they match up to 10%, so a 20% pension will come in handy. Might be able to use this plan to coast into retirement/get hit by a bus - whichever comes first

Well done Quad.
Is the contract offer conditional on references? Have you got those all lined up ok?
I had someone here with contract signed and notice put in at old role in same organisation (public sector). One of the references came back dodgy, senior management didnt even bother looking at the second reference, spoke to previous line manager and then pulled the offer the day before the start date. Old job wouldn't take them back after notice given.
So they went from moving to a different role with a contract signed to unemployed with 24 hours notice. HR just said contract was conditional on two satisfactory references so could be withdrawn.

I thought that these days references should only ever now be a cursory check that the person worked where they said and did the job they did - no performance checks, no personal comments and no salary chat. Had a quick check on gov.co.uk and turns out you can include performance comments. Sure that was phased out a while ago.
*edited because I googled summat

I've provided 3 different references already and that covers about 7 years worth of work, But yeah - I'm not going to quit my current one until I have everything in place and a start date confirmed. I don't know whether mine is conditional on the references, all I know is that they asked for them, so I provided them. I'm keeping my eye out for when they've done all that. Tbf, the NHSP (the P is for professionals - it's a group that the NHS setup to get recruitment sorted) contact that I have has been very thorough and very responsive, so if I have any questions, I'll ask.

I had to provide 2 references for the self storage job and they didn't even bother contacting them. Whereas somewhere else might I guess. They normally ask "did this person actually work here between dates X and Y?" as far as I knew.

Tell you what I did notice today at the NHS trust handing in my IDs along with some other new onboarding staff. We were instructed to find this particular room where they've set up the onboarding session and it was in a lecture theatre. I got instant bloodborne vibes, but I digress It all felt like we were signing up for something, almost like I imagine it would be signing up for the army or something. But it was a really good feeling joining this group. It's actually the first time ever in 30 odd years of employment where I felt I was joining somewhere worthwhile and bringing my skills over to do it. Probably because the nhs is a real life service as opposed to a private corporate soulless vacuum. You'd have thought I'd have had this feeling by now but it was only today that I did. I'm glad though. Feels right.

Then again, I said similar to that when I got the self storage job and look how that turned out. Albeit they did completely lie to me about a fair few things but still, have to keep my eyes open.
