For the second time this year I’ve encountered a student who wants an extension on their essay deadlines because they’re going to trial for beating their partners. Its very depressing and I really thought seeing it from one student was grim enough, nevermind two.
And then there are the stalkers.

Had a girl on the phone today asking for storage and when we ask the standard question about why a customer needs storage she just burst into tears because she's now homeless and just wants the cheapest unit available while she's trying to sort her life out.
It's fucking awful.

Does anyone else use Atvero? Perhaps not the right thread but it'll do, so we now have an all encompassing document storage/issuing system in place, (Atvero - with many other bells and whistles to boot apparently), being the techno dinosaur I am, as usual I am late to the party, during a Teams call today with the office Atvero Grand-Master I needed a training call to run through how to transmit (gotta get the fucking terminology right) some documents for the first time, I happened to mention that when the recipient receives my transmittal it won't contain my company signature/contact details, pointing out this obvious flaw I was met with a barrage of techno bullshit and ultimately did I want to add my LinkedIn profile to my transmittal, by this time, despite actually liking the guy, I wanted to reach down the phone (teams) line and strangle the fucker. Just fuck off. I did end the call on a high though, I happened to mention that in a few years time we will literally be having the same conversation again; that management has bought into a crappy system that most people thought was unworkable and has since fallen by the wayside into oblivion, the poor guy was speechless.
I think I may have been a bit hard on him.
/as an aside I was the first employee of my company to create a profile on LinkedIn and I linked it to my current employer and after LinkedIn shit actually became a thing they had to ask me to for to handover it's management to them.

So our 3 days in the office is going to be enforced. Our system lets you apply to go in less but our manager is such a spineless cunt that he said he thinks if he approves more than 2 from home per week we’ll have to go in 5 days. The real reason is because he’s shit. He won’t be in for 3 days because he’ll be on other sites for no good reason.
There’s a good chance he’ll be moving on soon, I’ve already told the rest of the team that if I take over then they can put their requests in again then and I’ll approve and defend the decision.
He’s the same boss that’s giving us all identical pay rises (against the company guidance) because he doesn’t want to upset anyone, ignoring that that will upset the high performers who will now not work as hard for him.

I always remember some cheeky bastard shouting across the office to me to a mass office wide laugh, there he goes, so spineless I'm surprised he can even stand. Still, that bloke drives busses now, not that that's a bad thing in fact I'm quite envious.  |

Brought it up with the manager, not much else to do other than report to hr. They already sent a company wide memo a few weeks back to bring up the fact that the toilets can be left in a state. I mentioned it before but there's 4 gender neutral toilets and female staff want to have 1 or 2 designated as female only because of the state some of the seats are left in. But then the company memo also stated that pads are getting flushed down the toilet. Just makes you wonder what the state of their toilet is at home

Really don't want to deal with the customer emails tomorrow, the company is being the usual shit self and not acting on customer's issues with resources. I really hope this new director can sort things out.
But the lack of computer skills from customers is shocking considering their profession, can't even put in a page break or adjust a word table

Had a slightly accusatory notification from my workplace IT because I had to hard reset my laptop and asking why I did that.
There was no option to say I had to hard to reset to power down, because I'm being forced to sit through long system updates that I can't choose to do late, when I really need to leave to get a train

It was fairly passive aggressive.
I don't really care at all, but I'm done sitting around waiting for my laptop to update at home time. Hard shut down everytime going forward.
At least give us the option to delay the update FFS.

Bloke who used to work here 10+ years ago passed away and his funeral is this Friday (I didn't know him) - his son currently works here and has worked here a long time and is a top lad. Various staff members want to go (and are going) and a lot of management are going. People are being told they can go without having to use time off.
My uncle died suddenly last year (suicide) and I had to book a day off as I was told (by a director going to his funeral) that only immediate family gets a 'free' funeral otherwise you have to book a day off.
Didn't have a problem with this at the time but now I'm a bit pissed off to say the least. I'll be raising the issue but I don't know exactly when to do it - think it'll be better after the funeral has taken place so I don't be a massive cunt and stop others going to the funeral or causing issues with the son who I get on with really well.

If I remember I do but most of the time I don't even realise there's an update pending until I go to shut down. Tbh I'd rather do it after lunch to buy an extra ten minutes of procrastination. |

rhaegyr You are rightfully upset, but I'd say, don't do anything mate. Both incidents are done deals. You can't go back in time to your uncle's funeral and not book time off and, since this bloke was probably loved enough for several staff members to want to go to his funeral (not to mention his son working there), the company decision to let them do that without taking time off seems justified enough to leave any complaints of yours sticking out like a sore thumb. Again, you are right, but I don't see anything good coming out of this for you...

Whilst I get why you are upset, you cannot really compare the two situations and it is a nice gesture by the comapny that shouldn't be tainted by situations where they could have been flexible, but chose not to be.

One of our clients is an andrology clinic, and have asked for an export of all their documents from their db. My computer is currently processing through 72GB of photos of penises with assorted deformities. It’s an interesting experience.

This self storage job has taken an interesting turn.
Turns out they lied in the interview. "Working the odd Saturday now and again", actually turns out to be, "once we know you can do the job, you'll be doing practically every Saturday going".
I've been here 2 months and my very first Saturday off is this coming Saturday.
So that's a bit shit.
And whilst I enjoy the variety of work, we're told that we can't do maintenance work/cleaning/litter picking if there are sales enquiries to sort out.
OK.
But if you don't do the maintenance you get scolded.
And if you don't do the enquiries, you get scolded.
But it's physically impossible to do both. You just can't do it.
It was all dandy at the start but over a short space of time, they really clamp down on you.
It's all a bit depressing since it started off appearing to be good.
Oh, and they've permanently relocated me to a different site. I didn't have a choice in that after checking my contract but I didn't think they'd do it so willy nilly without even asking me if it was OK.
There are some good points to it, but no where near enough to justify the above.
I've been speaking to other people in similar jobs and it's the same - it seems that if you're in a smaller self storage company it's slightly easier and the hours are better. But the bigger, more corporate stores....not so.
So I'm looking for another job whilst this one pays my bills for a bit.
Fucks sake fate, give me a fucking break will you.
