I knew the GG was more zoomed in that MS but didn’t realise it was that bad. Some of the bosses must be basically impossible, you’d never see the attacks coming The first boss was tough, but not impossible. The bombs did have a pattern you could gauge by the sound of the bouncing. I don’t remember any of the other bosses being an issue. I think there was a later cloud-based level that was another difficulty spike. Hang gliding sections with no tutorial and clouds that hid springs being among the frustrations.

Speaking of earworms, I think triple trouble had a train boss that had an absolute banger of a soundtrack.

Both those weird spikes are totally down to the view distance of the GG version. I do think Sonic 1 is actually a decent platformer. It's not as iconic as the 16 bit versions but I would play it again. Sonic 2, too. Nostalgia is definitely a reason too, of course. Tbh whilst 1 and 2 are decent they fall away quite quickly though. Chaos was okay, but the other 8 bit titles are curios at best. I'd have preferred the DLC to be the MS versions of 1,2 and Chaos, and the MD versions of Sonic 3D and Spinball. The old Sonic Mega Collection on the PS2 was a better compilation tbh. Back when it felt like Sega actually put effort so it didn't feel like a cash grab.

Spinball is such an odd omission when it and Mean Bean Machine were always in those Mega Drive compilations.
I don’t know why its so hard for them to just do a complete bundle of 16 and 8 bit Sonics when most of them have been available in one package or another over the last decade. Are they scared that a complete edition means we won’t buy each generations half package? They can’t be making that much money off these, can they?

It does amaze me at the consistency they seem fuck up every sonic release in one way or another.

All you really need is one a sonic compilations called Sonic: The Good Ones. Basically Sonic 1-3, Sonic CD, Generations, Mania, and the better GBA titles.
If they want they can then release the rest in DLC called Sonic Gash.

I had Sonic 1, 2 and Chaos for Master System and love them all but it looks like Sega has largely memoryholed the system so I guess this is as good as we’ll get for the 8-bit titles Wouldn't be surprised if they keep adding to this. MS games next then later gens.

Is the slowdown and frame rate drops as bad as they look on youtube?
Criminal how hard a PS5 seems to be chugging at the collapsing platforms in the Bridge Zone

Guess I'll be installing it again.

Gonna wait for reviews, but I’m tempted. I did enjoy Mania, but didn’t like how much it felt like a sequel to 3 & Knuckles, rather than 1 & 2. Obviously this will play quite differently, but with the slower movement there’s hopefully a greater emphasis on precision platforming, rather than flair.

Sounds like a remaster of Sonic Generations is coming so maybe buy the original before it's delisted. Especially if you own a Series X and that version could end up being the better version.

I got Sonic Superstars at Christmas, started off well, was enjoying it a lot, but then there's a few gimmicks introduced that just ended up annoying, it fell from a solid 8/10 to a low 6.
Haven't actually finished it and possibly won't bother.

Yeah I stopped playing. The boss battles are so tedious.

I have it on Series S and it's 1440p60, and I get this weird feeling that the remaster is going to be lower res instead.
That said, if they add a lot of new content, it might be worth it regardless. Generations was okay, even if it got repetitive after a while.

Surprisingly (to me, anyway) that Sonic x Shadow Generations seems to be getting consistently good reviews, and the Shadow campaign sounds more in depth than I'd presumed.
