It's 669g compared to like 400g for a Switch, so quite a lot heavier.

Size of that screen. Dayum. Lovely. Personally I've always found the Switch a little small to hold comfortably with my sausage hands for extended periods, so will appreciate the bigger size of the Deck. Screen looks the same size as the Switch's.
edit: yep, both 7 inch. SD has got bigger bezels, so looks bigger but isn't.

I wonder how much I will notice the missing inch from my Linx Vision (8" screen). Should be a lot less unweildy than the controller cage on that. I did enjoy using it despite its weak chipset and overheating issues. Looking forward to Steam Deck.

Ahh fair. You can see the bezel actually if you look closely enough (which I didn't...)

Some guy on YouTube benchmarked the system.
Overall, it seems close to a MX450, but without the bottleneck of just 2GB of memory.
Sticking point seems to be battery life, which can go down to 90 minutes for the most intensive games. On the other hand, since it's still a PC, you can lower the settings or maybe cut the framerate to 30fps to make it last longer.

The only thing preventing my chronic FOMO from ordering one is my failed history of buying various portable gaming devices over the years and never putting them to use.

Linus has posted a hardware review and is very positive on how it performs. He compares it to other similar handheld PCs and it comes out the best in most cases. Forza Horizon has some weird quirks, but everything else is great (Dead Cells has lower FPS than other handheld PCs, but still ~150 so whatever). A few minor complaints with button placement not being ideal for him, but says another one of the team had no issues. He does mention battery life and, again, it performs well compared to other similar devices. youtu.be/HjZ4POvk14c

My ass temps are cranked really high for this.
It looks solid mechanically, but it’s one ugly bastard, and huge, to boot.
I wonder if I can just carry it to and back from work and pretend it’s my computer.

Pretty good going for verified list, whilst the unsupported list is unsurprisingly mostly multiplayer or VR (a couple of single player games like Persona 4 and Just Cause 2).
There are a lot of big games in the playable list though. It includes lots of games that would really suit the Deck (such as Slay the Spire and XCOM 2) and even games that were part of the advertising for the Deck (The Witcher 3 and Factorio stood out). There was even Linux games listed there. Hopefully playable means it is only a few minor glitches (and verified is flawless), but I expect we need to wait until it is in actual unembargoed hands before we really know what the criteria means in reality.

P4G being unsupported is a bit of a bummer given I was thinking the Steam Deck could retire my Vita’s place as a P4G device.

Really pleasantly surprised to see Gujian 3 on that list. Also happy to see Dragon Quest XI S on it. I think that game singlehandedly sold me on the potential of the Steam Deck. A couple of weeks ago, I was trying out the demo on Switch and the Xbox version on GamePass, trying to figure out which version I wanted to buy (I went Xbox). I was essentially playing those first few areas twice while weighing my options, and I was thinking how nice it'd be carry progress in the 4K version to the handheld I was playing in bed. Then it hit me. Ahh, I think I want a Steam Deck.

Valve can fix it with a new proton version or Atlus may step in and patch the game, either way it should be totally doable without too much hassle.

Proton 7 is out and it lists P4G as playable, a good chance for the SD to support it now.

Sounds like a non-issue if you're just going to bung Windows on it. Still undecided if I'll do that.

As a Linux dual booter I can say that if ProtonDB lists it as playable then it's almost indistinguishable from perfect in most cases.

Not sure how Valve's own criteria differs from ProtonDB's though. Actually do have Linux installed on my comp and have been meaning to give it a proper go. Only tried a few older games and a couple of indies, but had good success. Only problem I ran into was Deus Ex seemed very dark, but don't know if that was Linux or some particular setting. Was having issues with getting WiFi working on Linux and also limited space, but have a wired connection sorted now and a 1TB drive, so should really give it a proper go with some more modern games.

I think the main difference from the protonDB list will be stuff like input controls on the Deck and how easy text is to read

Some of the games from the 2013-2019 era are going to be a massive pain on the Deck. That was the time when resolutions got high enough for very small text, but nobody cared about accessibility or font size yet.

15% playable for me, which isn't great. 80% is unknown though, so not really meaningful at the moment. Would be good to see something similar for ProtonDB, as that would give a better picture until Valve can test more of the library.
Most interesting info from that site is the unplayable. 33 or just under 5% for me. As I noticed before though, basically all VR games. Only games not VR are Dead by Daylight, Just Cause 2, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, and Planetside 2.

Osiris is an interesting one, as it’s also one of the few PS4 games with problems on the PS5. Must have been a total hack job.

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is well worth the investment even if it won't work on the Deck.
