Press start in emudeck, other settings and change the emulator for the Saturn to the one that begins with Y, yabiusa or something.

I got one of the high-end Samsung evoplus cards for mine. (Cost just over 50 quid IIRC so may be cheaper on BF) Thanks. Couldn't find those at that sort of price (although maybe nearer BLack Friday they will), but saw these for £50 - www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08GXXKY6P?ref_=pe_27063361_487360311_302_E_DDE_dt_1Just went ahead and ordered that one. Sure I've seen them recommended before for Steam Deck Oh balls! It's now only £32.99. I assumed that the discount on it last week was the Black Friday deal. Should have waited a week and I might have grabbed 2.

Amazon CS are pretty quick to refund stuff like that. Just open a chat with them and they'll most likely oblige.
Or just order the cheaper one and request a refund on the other one.

I actually briefly tried it yesterday. It works fine for me out of the box with no tweaks but I have it in my Steam library because I bought it on release. I suspect any issues would be from the initial post-install setup or lack thereof.

I'm thinking of taking the plunge, what do folks in here typically have 64 or the 256 model? The 64gb just seems like very good value but I don't fancy a compromised experience even unless it's fairly negligible

The 64gb just seems like very good value but I don't fancy a compromised experience even unless it's fairly negligible If you don't mind opening it up it would be cheaper getting the 64gb and buying a new SSD for it. Think the 64gb keeps going in and out of stock though.

I went for a 512GB as it looked fiddly to upgrade. I do need to find time to use it more though.

The 64 gets filled with cache files and becomes a nuisance, it pissed my friend off so I changed his to a 256GB nvme he had off ebay that was out of a surface device. The only real difference between models is the screen on the 512GB linked below and carry case. www.ifixit.com/Parts/Steam_Deck/Screens

I decided to go all in and get the 512GB. Not sure about exact screen comparisons, but the anti-glare seemed definitely worth it, plus the added bonus of not having to worry too much about space/upgrading.
If you aren't too worried about the screen, the most cost effective way is to get the 64GB and get a drive to switch in.

Cheers gents, I'm not averse to a bit of hardware fiddling BUT would be more reluctant with a completely new device. Will look into the upgrade process a little more to evaluate.

Apart from getting the power supply disconnected it was pretty easy, the power cable is fiddly and needs slight rocking for a minute plus to get out.

Yea but there's a little more terror there with a new perfectly functioning device.
When I completely took apart my xbox one x to reseat the APU, I was fairly blasé as it was 3+ years old and sounded like a fucking jet engine + was overheating. The process was relatively easy but the risk felt low. Similarly with my elite series 2 that I pried open. RB wasn't working anyway so feck it!
I had a look at a few guides and I think perhaps I'll just go with the 256GB. I sold my analogue pocket for €400 anyway so I basically only have to invest 150.

You can also just expand storage with an SD card. I got a 512GB one for £50. It will be a bit slower than internal, but benchmarks have shown it to be not by much and probably only really noticeable if you are timing it.
Using an SD card is just as simple as putting it in the slot at the bottom of the Deck and formatting it.

Hmm, yea the benchmarks are so tight having looked at a few that the 64GB is looking a really attractive option...

I went all in on the 512gb cos I thought it'd have the shortest wait time on launch being the most expensive. Obviously I was completely wrong on that.
I don't use it outside (or haven't yet) so don't know if the anti-glare screen is in any way worth it. In hindsight, I'd have gone 64gb and either changed the SSD or added a microSD. I feel like it only really came about after launch how easily repairable/changeable the components were.

Well I'm officially an idiot, I'm on board. Went for the 64GB in the end, there really isn't a downside vs the 256GB since it can be upgraded but initially I can get a 512 SD card for much less than the difference. Cheers fellas.
Feels like it only cost me €20 which is all the sweeter.

I feel like it only really came about after launch how easily repairable/changeable the components were. Sort of. Valve were asked quite early on whether it would be upgradeable and they were very open about it. They pretty much sold it as a benefit of the device. However, visions of lots of people bricking their shiny device likely appeared to them and they soon backtracked. The message became "you can, but best not to".

Anyone tried Batocera for retro games yet? I've fantasised about being able to dual-boot Batocera from a SD card for a while.
I have a Mac at home so using the Windows-only apps to flash the card could be a pain.

BalenaEtcher, which Batocera recommends for writing to SD cards, is also available on the Mac.
You can also create the card on the Steam Deck itself using anything from Balena through any card writers that may be available in the Discover store to a simple dd in the terminal.

Batocera works really well. I've got an SD set up to boot into it, you just hold power and vol+ when you boot and it takes you into the bios. Select the SD and off you go.
Everything just works, you can scrape and organise everything from within Batocera.

The Geoffies are about to start, in case anyone thought they'd try their luck at winning a Deck.

Flashing Batocera on the card was easier than I thought. I did it all in the deck's desktop mode using BalenaEtcher. Thanks guys.

Heard very good things about this Pentiment game so bought it last night. Says I've played for half an hour so far but must be about 5 minutes in as it crashes every few seconds. Verified my arse!

I played through and completed Pentiment entirely on the Deck with no crashes. I had one weird issue at one point where the icons to transition screen started playing up and had me repeatedly moving back and forth between two screens until I force quit it. But that's it. I wonder why yours is playing up so badly?

Verify files? Move to internal storage if it's on an SD card (if the card is old and could be on the way out)? Redownload? Check for SD updates? Throw the SD in the trash and play on PC like a normal person?
