SDHQ is pretty decent for getting settings advice - steamdeckhq.com/game-settings/ - they also have a plugin for Crankshaft that puts a label with scores on games

I like that new option in the beta channel that gives a list of every component in your steam deck, with a part number and the company that made it. So you can check which fan you have without opening it up for instance.

I like tinkering with things but the Steam Deck works so well out of the box I can't really be arsed tbh. Treat it much more like a console than a PC.

Nothing needs to be done to it, but it can be done if you ever get the feeling for it.
Replaced a friends 64gb with a 256gb nvme last week, reinstalling steamos is simple enough.

I’ve swapped out the fan but that’s as much tinkering as I’m likely to do, and even then it was more out of curiosity.

Thanks all for the feedback, all very positive stuff regarding the Deck and being able to control the heat and fan!

Ordered my Steam Deck today, feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.
Really keen to get involved in the emulation side of things, but to be honest I have no idea where to even start.
Could anyone please help me out with a dummies starter guide?

This video (specifically the links in it) helped me no end: www.youtube.com/watch?v=meaLQOS8z8cProbably worth YAAAAARing a bunch of BIOS and ROM files for the systems you want to emulate too. Then stick it all in EmUDeck: www.emudeck.comWhich has a simple install guide at that link. Good luck! It's awesome.

Amiga emulation is causing me a headache, can't seem to find (or name correctly, or put in the right place) the proper kickstart files.

Xbox have tinkered with XCloud to provide some improvement to the experience server-side, at least for streaming on Linux. For those who have XCloud gaming set up using Microsoft’s guide, you just need to update the Edge browser in desktop mode’s Discover app to see the benefit.
There’s a noticeable improvement for me. The picture quality is still soft and I would guess the resolution is still <720p, but there is an upgrade in the picture quality from before. Most importantly I don’t see any sign of pixelation/artefacts, when that was always obvious before. I’ve not had a problem with lag since I got the deck (within reason, I still wouldn’t play a racing game like that). However I’ve always had issues with pixelation in faster-moving games until now. I tested Subnautica, Persona 5 and Dishonored 2 because I tried all of those recently and not enjoyed the picture quality in any of them, but they look fine now.
I’m impressed with it.

Does anyone use multiple SD cards to swap games? if so, how does the system cope?

I’ve hotswapped and haven’t had any problems. Takes a few seconds for the UI to refresh but that’s about it.

Does anyone known how do you transfer files from PC to this thing without having to fiddle around with wireless apps?
Can I simply attach a usb flash drive with a usb-c adapter?

Would like to know that too, although I think you can’t. I use warpinator which is good but relying on Wi-Fi to transfer huge files is annoying.

Share a folder on your Windows PC and go through the network option in file manager, works well enough for me.

Or do what I did and copy to a spare sd card, swap the cards around, then copy to desktop or whichever folder you need. Inelegant but worked for basic bitch me.

I got a regular usb stick and put it in a converter to USB-C, works as expected after you mount it in desktop mode, format is NTFS.

I managed to get Warpinator working so could finally transfer my files.
Oh dear, what type of nostalgia-fuelled worm hole have I crawled down now?
This things is an emulation beast. Now just gotta fill up that SD card with all my faves.

I went all posh and bought the Paragon LFS suite, it's a successor to the old Hummingbird kit and basically allows you to mount EXTFS drives on your PC. I was drunk and had just been paid and wanted something dirt simple to use.

Seems my D-pad has stopped working! Raised a ticket and overnight got a response to return it - hopefully get it back within '5-7 days' but let's see. Anyone else had any problems? Definitely easier than hassling Nintendo returns on the old joycon drift issue (so far!)

Now just gotta fill up that SD card with all my faves. Emulation is bonkers on it. The games play great but honestly the most fun is choosing them and reminiscing over the artwork. Also a great chance to play some ps1/2 games I missed.

Was thinking I might use Black Friday as an opportunity to grab an SD card for my deck. Any particular recommendations or does it not really matter? 512gb is likely what I would be after.

Samsung Evo Select is what I have in my Deck. It got me all the way through Ys 9 with neither errors nor excessive load times. Sandisk have been a little shaky from what I've seen lately so I'd go for Samsung if possible.

Filling up my sd card with a whole load of retro goodness, so much that I’ve barely touched any of my steam library.
One thing I can’t get to work though is my Saturn collection. Doesn’t seem to matter what I try, I can’t get them running and there’s barely any help out there.
Anyone got this working?

Die Hard Arcade runs with no audio, I gave up at that point and looked into a ode drive again.

Couldn't find those at that sort of price (although maybe nearer BLack Friday they will), but saw these for £50 - www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08GXXKY6P?ref_=pe_27063361_487360311_302_E_DDE_dt_1Just went ahead and ordered that one. Sure I've seen them recommended before for Steam Deck

Yes got the bios, but when I launch the game it just kicks me straight back out to the menu. It’s probably the only format I’m struggling to get working, apart from Xbox which I don’t believe works through Emudeck.
